View Full Version : Manitoba SS's
Peg-city SS 03-15-2006, 05:25 PM How many Manitoba or Winnipeg SS's are on here. I am from St James, Wpg with a black 05 SS/SC.
Also looking at it we(manitoba) should probably be included in with Alberta and Saskatchewan for meets and discusion cause it is alot closer for us to go to alberta then it is to go to Toronto for us.
Blindside 03-16-2006, 09:23 AM I'm in Winnipeg (Whyte Ridge/Linden Woods area) '06 White SS/NA.
Pablo 03-17-2006, 01:19 AM The Wife has a 06 SS 2.4, garden city. :)
Asphalt Assault 03-18-2006, 02:43 PM I from St.Vital with a red SS/SC. I am thinking of going to Gimili for a track day or drag at gimili or altona. My choice would be a track day just for fun.
Click the car domain link. you may have seen my white cherokee with 33" mudders. It was pretty unique.
WPG SS/SC 03-18-2006, 08:21 PM Winnipeg guy here! I just ordered a Silver, Cobalt SS/SC, With LSD and Recaro seats. I should have it in roughly 8 weeks.
Peg-city SS 03-18-2006, 08:43 PM Nice I wish the canadian 05 could have got the LSD. I am gonig to have to order one and get it installed
Asphalt Assault 03-19-2006, 05:58 PM Winnipeg guy here! I just ordered a Silver, Cobalt SS/SC, With LSD and Recaro seats. I should have it in roughly 8 weeks.
I have got to see it and feel it.
Hope I am not to forward, I know I dont know you, but would love to see the difference with the LSD. I have got quotes on getting it done, just have to get the parts. I expect to drop $3000 just to get it done that is why I want to know. Hopefully we may meet one day and check it out. thanks
Asphalt Assault 03-19-2006, 06:00 PM Nice I wish the canadian 05 could have got the LSD. I am gonig to have to order one and get it installed
Dont waste your time asking GM for they are outrageous with the price. GW transmission can get the labour done for about $900. its 15hrs labour. I would do the clutch at the same time and put in a stage 3 with a lighter flywheel if you can.
EuteR 03-21-2006, 09:01 AM Winnipeg.. St James area.. One of the billion black ss/sc's here.. Did dealerships not order any other colors? lol
Pablo 03-21-2006, 08:32 PM I've only seen one black one driving around, the rest seem to be blue.
EuteR 03-22-2006, 06:05 AM Ive seen/talked to atleast 7 different black ones..
They are out there.
The one u always see if probably me.. lol
Asphalt Assault 03-22-2006, 12:21 PM I know of one black and one orange in st.vital. I have seen one blue outside of future shop on pembina hwy. I think the guy who owns that one works there. He said he was storing it for the winter (wish I could do that).
Asphalt Assault 03-22-2006, 12:43 PM I've only seen one black one driving around, the rest seem to be blue.
I want a friendly "test" from you. Just want to see how much harder the SRT pulls on my car stock. are you interested?
WPG SS/SC 03-23-2006, 12:29 AM Got a black SS/SC here... I attempted to order a Silver SS/SC only to find out they have a mandatory allocation on all SS/SC's(with Recaro/G85 package?). So ordering one was not an option, and finding one with Recaro's was not fun!! Especially when u work at a pontiac dealership.
So I ended up getting a black SS/SC with the Recaro/G85 package. Drove it for about 2 hours and absolutly loved it, until a warning light came on saying "Engine speed reduced". So basically the car couldent really move without stalling. Got it towed to my dealership, now I'll just have to wait til tommorow to see what the problem is.

WPG SS/SC 03-23-2006, 01:36 AM too late, i already bought it
Pablo 03-23-2006, 02:09 AM I want a friendly "test" from you. Just want to see how much harder the SRT pulls on my car stock. are you interested?
Definetly interested as my car is 100% bone stock right now, no intake no bov no nothing. We would have to do this before may as that's when the mods go back in.

I am also wanting to try this.. As soon as the winter tires come off.. Probably in a week or so.. I wanna get rid of the winter apparel pretty bad.
Peg-city SS 03-23-2006, 03:07 PM Same here. I am ging crazy waiting to put the rims and tires back on.
Asphalt Assault 03-23-2006, 03:31 PM anyone know where I should go for tint? autotrim design quoted $189. is the job or tint of low quality? I question it as most charge 225. any advice?
EuteR 03-23-2006, 05:47 PM I went to Ming based on the fact that my buddy recommended them.. I always went to the place that could do it the day I wanted it done. I definitally recommend them.
Pablo 03-23-2006, 07:50 PM How much were you guys quoted for a LSD from GM? as for tint I've seen many cars done by auto trim and haven't seen problems, sounds like a good price to me.
Peg-city SS 03-23-2006, 08:01 PM I have not had time to go in and check with GM to see how much one would cost yet.
WPG SS/SC 03-23-2006, 08:05 PM I had my parts guy check the price on that the other day... To get the LSD from GM its gonna cost around 5 grand ( I'm guessing thats with labor too).
Peg-city SS 03-23-2006, 08:21 PM ouch.......
Pablo 03-23-2006, 11:52 PM The retail is $5,100+tax for the diff, this does not include labour. Honestly not worth it, It will not make you faster in a straight line trust me, the only two 11 second FWD's in Winnipeg did not have LSD's and they ran 11.61 and 11.62. It's nice if you're going to autocross but not in a straight line. :)

I still would like it to make the car balanced and streetable. you dont need LSD on the strip as the track is maintained. So I will get mine.
Heres where I am at. Murrays says $5400 for the quaife diff and showing none available. Gauthier says $5800. I played with them a bit. I said I dont want the transmission as well just the diff. The parts guy said without even grinning or any other facial expression the tranny and diff together is $8900. He thought it maybe cheaper for me to trade in my car and order another one. LOL. It is 15hrs labour plus seals and bearing kit.
So Quaife USA lists the part for $1500 US. GW transmission can put it in for about $1000. have not priced the other parts yet (bearing kit and seals). I estimate about $3000 to get er done.
We'll see whether I will do it.
Pablo 03-24-2006, 02:48 PM I can sell the diff for $4,100+ tax if anyone is interested, but that's still a lot of money
EuteR 03-24-2006, 03:41 PM I test drove a Orange one at Orion with the G85 package.. And really I must say that I dont notice a difference.. Mind u that was awhile ago. I wouldnt be able to justify spending 3000 minimum on LSD..
RUREDI 03-24-2006, 03:54 PM My sister just picked up her new white SS from Mainline in Virden but we live in Estevan SK. My other sister also owns a Pursuit.
Asphalt Assault 03-25-2006, 07:47 PM in slick conditions, wet pavement, dusty road, yeah you'll notice the difference without LSD. one wheel spin. in dry you think you dont notice the difference but if traction conditions are not ideal (one tire spinning some) and you have the same car beside you with LSD, he will walk all over you. for a daily driver, and winter, yeah I want it.
Asphalt Assault 03-25-2006, 07:51 PM I put my summer tires on today. I was running P215/55r16 Dunlop Graspic DS-1 for the winter. great tire in all conditions but as soon as we get warm I found little traction (its a snow tire, what would you expect?). I put on the factory tires and man, handling and traction dramatically improve but now I feel every crack in the road (its not that bac but is noticeable). SO HAPPY to have the stock rims back on. I really like the look of these rims. GM got that right.
Peg-city SS 03-25-2006, 08:54 PM Yeah I think I will have mine on in the next week or 2. I am going crazy with the Motomaster Icetrac's i have on right now.
Pablo 03-25-2006, 09:24 PM Damn my backlane is still full of ice gonna have to wait another couple weeks to put my summer rims on :( Then I can race the guys that want a friendly go :)
Asphalt Assault 03-26-2006, 08:20 PM My lane is totaly clear. could get up to 160 KM down it if I wanted to lol. but what a difference on wet pavement...night and day. the pirelli's have impressed me.
Asphalt Assault 03-30-2006, 01:02 AM bought a new shift light, annodized red, red led's easy to install and mounts nicely beside boost guage. should recieve in a week

Peg-city SS 04-04-2006, 05:59 PM I used to be on heights back in the day but got sick of alot of people there.
redzed 04-04-2006, 06:05 PM Ya sometimes some of the people on there can be pretty ignorant.
Even saying that on there would start a huge uproar

Pablo 04-05-2006, 07:58 PM Is this the GM Stage 2 you're talking about?
Peg-city SS 04-05-2006, 08:14 PM Yes I am talking about GM stage 2.

Well I guess I'm not the only White SS running around the city anymore...here I thought I was rare.
Asphalt Assault 05-01-2006, 08:20 AM Well I guess I'm not the only White SS running around the city anymore...here I thought I was rare.
You still are. SS white. cant imagine there will ever be more than 10 in the city of 650,000. LOL that is pretty rare. Any SS is pretty rare.
I guess my is one of the rarest. Who has an SS/SC with no wing. Not many I am sure. but I am sure others will follow.

LOL....yeah one night on portage. you have the INJEN CAI right. black SS/SC. Man could I hear you coming. could you even hear me at all (has to be difficult to impossible to hear my car if your on the gas too...LOL). I hope to get a second airbox. it might be free. then I am going to chop it up (air box mod) and put either a K&N drop in or cone filter. I think I would prefer the drop in conical filter as I think it is huge and then I have the security of the filter not falling off. That happened to another vehicle of mine but the filter was easy to get to.
check out mypictures uploaded or even go to CARDOMAIN.com. click on the link in my signature. look at page 2 to see how the car will look with Eibach Sportline springs. these springs are sitting in my trunk waiting to be installed.
The work on the trunk was done by ColorMelt on Regent. Tell Stan that I sent you. I got $225 US for my wing on ebay.
I like your car the way it looks completely debaged and window tint. I have to tint my windows yet.
EuteR 05-01-2006, 06:24 PM Wow.. So the wing basically paid for body work and what not?
If you dont mind me asking.. How much was the body work for u? I NEED to get rid of this wing.
EuteR 05-01-2006, 06:30 PM Maybe I take that back.. I called Color Melt and they said somewhere around the 5-600 dollar mark to get the wing and trunk lock shaved! I dont think I was expecting that.
I really want Stage 2.. Its a toss up.. I hate the wing so bad.. But going faster is always fun!
Maybe I will flip a coin.

Yeah and I got rid of the antenna too! so a little more. It was so worth it though. I wanted to make sure I got something for the wing. then I saw eibach sportlines on the ebay. bought those to. I landed those here for less than half of retail. I still thinking about STAGE 1 and pulley. may do that.

2.0L Ecotec gets a boost from GM Performance Parts' Stage Kits
Performance upgrade kits for Chevy Cobalt Coupe SS Supercharged; Saturn ION Redline MSRP - Stage One Kit - $500; Stage Two Kit - $750
DETROIT -GM Performance Parts is adding some extra juice to the already high-voltage 2.0L Ecotec-powered Chevrolet Cobalt Coupe SS Supercharged and Saturn ION Redline by introducing two supercharger kits that generate real power gain at the wheels. The Stage One and Stage Two performance upgrade kits provide an additional 31 and 36 hp respectively.
"These stage kits are aimed squarely at the hard core enthusiast looking to boost the power of the already charged-up 205-horsepower 2.0L Ecotec engine of the Chevy Cobalt Coupe SS Supercharged and Saturn ION Redline," said Nancy Philippart, executive director, GM Accessories. "They deliver increased horsepower and torque throughout the operating range of the engine."
The Stage One Kit (P/N 17801947) with a manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP) of $500.00, includes higher-flow fuel injectors and an ECU calibration to provide a 31 hp boost to the Cobalt Coupe SS Supercharged and ION Redline Ecotec engine for a total of 236 hp and 205 lb.-ft. of torque.
The Stage Two Kit (P/N 17803229), with an MSRP of $750.00, yields more power through the middle section of the power curve versus the Stage One Kit. The Stage Two Kit includes the parts available in the Stage One Kit and adds a smaller supercharger pulley and drive belt, pushing the engine alive with 241 hp and 218 lb.-ft. of torque across a broad engine speed range.
A Stage One to Stage Two Upgrade Kit (P/N 17803230) is also available for an ION Redline or Cobalt Coupe SS Supercharged with a Stage One performance upgrade kit already installed. This kit converts the Stage One to Stage Two, increasing performance from 236 hp to 241 hp and has an MSRP of $400.00.
"The kits are easy to install and conform to all GM engineering and validation standards for the Cobalt and ION," said Philippart. "And, best of all, they're backed by GM."
The Stage One and Stage Two Kits fit 2005-2006 Saturn ION Redline and Chevrolet Cobalt Coupe SS Supercharged models only, require premium fuel, and are available through all GM dealerships.

Asphalt Assault 05-09-2006, 09:00 PM Yet another warranty tid bit. From SEMA
http://www.enjoythedrive.com/content/?id=7253
Warranty Denied?
The enclosed materials are intended to help you in the event you have a vehicle warranty claim denied in circumstances where an aftermarket producthas been used. The information describes the law on vehicle warranties and will give you a sense of what is and is not an improper warranty denial. After reviewing this information, you will be aware of the steps to take to fight unlawful warranty denials.
In many cases it will not be necessary to take all the steps outlined here because these disputes are often resolved at an early stage.
What Does the Warranty Actually Say?
Start by re-reading the warranty documents. Become familiar with what the documents actually say, not what you think they should say. If the language is confusing, get help in understanding what it really means. Look for specific items or circumstances that may or may not be covered. Determine if there is a process specified for resolving disputes.
The Law
ederal law sets forth requirements for warranties and contains a number of provisions to prevent vehicle manufacturers, dealers and others fromunjustly denying warranty coverage. With regard to aftermarket parts, the gist of the law is that warranty coverage cannot be denied simply becausesuch parts are present on the vehicle, or have been used (See Attachment A for details). The warranty coverage can be denied only if the aftermarketpart caused the malfunction or damage for which warranty coverage is sought. Disputes in this area usually boil down to arguments over facts andtechnical opinions, rather than arguments over interpretations of the law.
Check Vehicle History
Sometimes a malfunction in a new vehicle may be identified as a "pattern failure" -- a failure that is recognized as common to your make and model ofvehicle. It may be a manufacturing defect which has become the subject of a government-mandated recall. You should check with another dealer, thevehicle manufacturer or an independent service provider--such as those listed below--to see if there are any Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs), ìfieldfixes or other service-related information for your vehicle which would indicate that the problem you are experiencing is a common one. In cases ofgovernment-mandated recalls, the dealer is obliged to notify you as a vehicle owner. However, you may check for yourself by calling the vehiclemanufacturers 800 number, the EPA (for emissions systems issues) or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA, for safety-relatedissues).
EPA: 202/233-9040
NHTSA: 800/424-9393
Chiltons: 610/964-4600
AllData: 916/684-5200
Motor Publications: 800/426-6897
American Automobile Manufacturers Association: 313/872-4311
Japanese Automobile Manufacturers Association: 202/296-8537
Determine the True Cause of the Problem
If possible, attempt to independently verify the accuracy of the claims made by the dealership. The manufacturer of the aftermarket part may be helpfulto you in providing a technical assessment of the problem. If there is a reasonable possibility that the aftermarket product caused the problem, it may bebest to try to reach a compromise. If, however, it is clear that the aftermarket product is unrelated to the problem, you should attempt to gather asmuch information as possible to support your claim. Useful evidence might include photos, copies of relevant service information, records of priorrepairs performed under warranty or the objective written opinion of a qualified third party (with relevant experience, accreditation, etc.).
Try to Work it Out With the Dealer
Once prepared with the appropriate support information and a basic understanding of the law, present the facts to the dealers service manager andmake an effort to resolve the situation. Keep the discussion objective and professional. Make sure to take notes of any significant claims orexplanations made by dealership personnel and try to obtain a written explanation if possible.
If discussions with the service manager do not bring about a resolution, speak with the owner of the dealership. Many problems can be resolved at thislevel. If there is a known pattern failure which matches your problem, be sure to bring this to the dealers attention. The dealer is able to obtainreimbursement from the vehicle manufacturer under such circumstances. If there is no pattern failure, but other evidence that exists contradicts thedealers conclusion, be sure the dealer is made aware of it. Also explain that you are aware of your rights under EPAs emissions warranty and theMagnuson-Moss Warranty Act. Again, if there is a reasonable possibility that either the aftermarket product or its installation could be the cause of theproblem, your best bet is to suggest a compromise with the dealer. In many cases, presenting an objective technical assessment and a basicunderstanding of the law will do the trick.
However, if you believe that you are entitled to warranty service, but the dealer disagrees, you can take other steps to seek a resolution to the dispute.
Get it in Writing
If a dealership denies warranty coverage, they should be willing to do so in writing. Have the dealer describe the failure which is causing your problem AND how the dealer believes the aftermarket product installed is responsible for the problem. Keep an accurate log of all contacts andcorrespondence in addressing the warranty denial.
Contact the Vehicle Manufacturers Zone Representative
If a car manufacturer backs your warranty, and you have a dispute with the dealer about either service or coverage, contact the local manufacturersrepresentative. This local or zone representative has the authority to adjust and make decisions about warranty service and repairs to satisfycustomers.
Some manufacturers are also willing to repair certain problems in specific models free of charge, even if the manufacturers warranty does not cover theproblem. Ask the zone representative or the service manager whether there is such a policy.
The procedure for contacting your zone representative is usually provided in your owners manual. This information can also be obtained from a dealer,or by calling the manufacturers customer service number, as listed in your owners manual. Present your case to the zone representative. Be sure toindicate how the dealer responded to your information, especially if dealership personnel were notably uncooperative, etc. Once again, be sure to getas much information in writing as you can; request that any determinations or actions which are promised by the zone representative be confirmed by aletter or a fax.
Contact the Vehicle Manufacturer Directly
You may find that contact with the zone representative does not resolve the matter. If you are still not satisfied, the next step is to contact the vehiclemanufacturer directly. Most carmakers maintain a contact office or a special department that is responsible for dealing with warranty issues (See Attachment B for details).
Using the information you have gathered and any additional information you may have to supplement your case, forward a letter directly to the vehiclemanufacturers customer service office (sometimes called dispute resolution board or something similar). Be sure to explain your situation in detail andin a logical, easy-to-understand manner. Provide as much detail as you can about your contacts with the dealer and the zone representative. Do nothesitate to state if you felt you were treated improperly or unfairly by either. The vehicle manufacturer will almost always respond to you with a letter;sometimes promptly, sometimes not. Again, be sure to retain all correspondence in case you need it for future use. Generally, the vehicle manufacturerhas the greatest interest in ensuring your satisfaction; they want you to remain loyal to their brand. As such, they will likely make a good faith effort toresolve the issue particularly if there is a known pattern of similar failures. If there is a request for any additional information, be sure to keep a record ofwhat you send. If the manufacturer should still decide against you, make sure that their refusal letter provides an explanation of how they believe theaftermarket part caused the problem.
Local Approaches You Can Try
If you cannot get satisfaction from the dealer, the zone representative or the manufacturer, contact one or all of the following:
Better Business Bureau
State Attorney General< li>
Local Department of Motor Vehicles
State Consumer Protection Office
Many states also have county and city offices that intervene or mediate on behalf of individual consumers to resolve complaints.
You also might consider using a dispute resolution organization to arbitrate your disagreement if you and the dealer are willing. Under the terms of manywarranties, this may be a required first step before you can sue the dealer or manufacturer. Check your warranty to see if this is the case.
If you bought the vehicle from a franchised dealer, you may be able to seek mediation through the Automotive Consumer Action Program(AUTOCAP). AUTOCAP is a dispute resolution program coordinated nationally by the National Automobile Dealers Association (NADA: 800/252-6232), and sponsored through state and local dealer associations in many cities. Check with the dealer association in your area to see if theyoperate a mediation program.
National Approaches You Can Try
Since the manufacturers failure to honor the terms of the warranty may be a violation of federal law, you can pursue the issue with the appropriatefederal agency.
You can call or write the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and ask for assistance on non-emission-related problems. Input from consumers is veryimportant to the work of the FTC. These contacts with consumers are often the first indication of a problem in the marketplace and may provide initialevidence to begin an investigation. Although the agency cannot act to resolve individual problems, it can act when it sees a pattern of possible lawviolations.
FTC, Washington, D.C.: 202/326-3128The FTC also maintains regional offices to field consumer complaints. For the telephone number to one near you, see Attachment B.
In the case of a problem with an emission-related component, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is the organization to contact. A pamphletpublished by the EPA on emissions warranty matters called ìWhat You Should Know About Your Auto Emissions Warranty,î can help explain youroptions. In essence, the EPA requires that you exhaust all of your options with the vehicle manufacturer before you contact the Agency. In all cases, you must correspond in with the EPA in writing. You must also provide copies of all correspondence with the dealer and manufacturer, as well as anyindependent evidence you may have that describes the cause of the problem. The better you are able to make your case that the aftermarket part wasnot the cause of the failure, the more likely you are to get EPAs help. The EPA is particularly interested in any evidence of a pattern failure beinginvolved.
Warranty ComplaintField Operations and Support Division (EN-397F)U.S. Environmental Protection AgencyWashington, D.C. 20460Telephone: 202/233-9040 or 202/233-9100
You can also call the Bureau of Consumer Protections Office of Consumer & Business Education at 202/326-3650.
Final Steps
The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act may also be helpful. Under this federal law, you can sue on breach of express and implied warranties. The mainpoint of interest here is that the Act says warranty coverage may not be conditioned upon the use of only the vehicle manufacturers parts unless theparts are provided free of charge. In other words, use of a non-carmaker product should not void your warranty unless it caused the problem.
Obviously, litigation can involve considerable time and expense on your part. However, if the cost of the warranty claim is high enough, this may be anoption to consider. Any such lawsuit or claim would have to be fought on the unique merits of the case and we recommend that you consider findingqualified legal counsel familiar with this area of law. In some cases, the filing of a lawsuit may encourage a settlement of the dispute. You should also beparticularly aware of the fact that once you file a lawsuit or claim against the dealer or manufacturer, your vehicle and your documentation may becomematerial evidence and may be subject to inspection and reviews in the lawsuit.
You can also consider going to small claims court, where you can resolve disputes involving small amounts of money for a low cost. The clerk of yourlocal small claims court can tell you how to file a suit and what the dollar limit is in your state. Again, this action will sometimes lead the parties to settlethe dispute.
No matter which steps you undertake, always approach the situation in a professional manner. Fits of anger, shouting, threats, and the like seldomaccomplish anything other than aggravating the situation. The best strategy is to stay calm and tactfully demonstrate your knowledge of your rights andpotential courses of action.
In most cases, it will not be necessary to go through the entire process described here. What you will normally find is that you will be able to resolveyour situation at a fairly early stage if you have the proper information in written form and you approach the issue in a calm, professional manner.

SUM IT UP....Hmmmm .....OK
You have rights. GM does say they honor warranty with this kit! that is the whole Idea of GMSTAGES. Steps are oulined with SEMA advice. GM supports their warranty and aftermarket as the aftermarket supply will give buyers a desire for to purchase the cobalt. More sales for GM.
The part you installed or GM installed has to be proven the cause inorder to deny warranty. THE END.

peg's fastest ss 05-11-2006, 08:02 PM where did u get that quote from????
peg's fastest ss 05-11-2006, 08:25 PM just got an email from gm canada hers what it sRob,
These Stage Kits are new, and we tried to get them to market as fast as
possible - because the demand has been great. Having done that, we got
ahead of some of the other parts of the process - including getting all of
our communications out to our dealers about the Kits. Bear with us - we're
getting the word out.
In terms of warranty - The warranty for Performance Accessories through GM
means that these Kits are covered under the provisions of the New Vehicle
Limited Warranty. So, in plain English - if the Kit is dealer-installed
prior to delivery or during the GM New Vehicle Warranty - the warranty
period is for the lifetime of the original purchaser, or the balance of the
New Vehicle Limited Warranty. If it is dealer-installed after the GM New
Vehicle Limited Warranty it's 12 months or 12,000 miles - whichever occurs
first (parts and labor), and finally if it is other than GM
dealer-installed, it's 12 months, parts only.
Hope that helps!

Pablo 05-11-2006, 08:58 PM $580+tax is the upgrade kit if you already have Stage 1. Peg's Fastest SS, it sounds like you got ripped off, as cost is a lot lower than that at every dealer in the city, I would complain to your Manager.

560 cdn is cheaper than 650 american. if you can do it order it. but I have a hunch he is misreading his screen and you will get a belt, hub and pulley plus the reflash for stage II.

I ordered a strut tower brace from Jbody Performance. Can't remember final price with shipping but I'll post it for you tomorrow if you want. They're in Canada so there is no duty or BS brokerage fees or anything. Welds on the bar were a bit heavy but not as bad as the pics on their site. The bar is pretty heavy duty and more of a performance peice than a show peice.

The bar tightened up my front end a bit and makes me a bit more confident in some circumstances. It's not a mind blowing difference but I can tell it's there. My FE3 suspension is kinda sloppy though; I imagine the FE5 is much tighter. You guys may feel more of a difference. I don't want to drop on a Pro Kit until we get some aftermarket struts happening though so I'm stuck for a bit

zomghax 05-16-2006, 11:18 PM So is anyone planning on going out to Gimli this weekend for the season opener T&T? I was really hoping to go and get a couple of stock timeslips but I've heard horror stories about wait times on opening weekends. Last year one of my buddies bailed out at 2:30pm and got a refund because he was still 20 cars back and hadn't made a single pass yet. He showed up a bit late though, so I wonder if showing up and getting through inspection early would make a difference...
peg's fastest ss 05-16-2006, 11:52 PM naa my buddy was there from the day before and he only made 1 pass its a waste of time.....but becareful.... ppl are morons when the y see a new car out there like ours, they take the license plate and will show the video to a gm dealer of the guy racing....it happened once to a guy who owned a 2004 trans am but he droppped the tranny at gimli we were gonna warranty it but when someone brought the video in they declined all powertrain warranty !!
Pablo 05-17-2006, 12:06 AM Simply take your plate off, we're going out this saturday, goint for a better time than last year in the little 2.2 Charger. ;)

lol maybe makes a difference in a honda civic that does 80MPH in a 1/4 but I dont agree that is makes much of a difference at all. I am guessing 4 to 2 passengers is a difference of 330 LBS (165lbs per guy). Hardly a problem in a cobalt of any other car that is quick or fast. Having the extra 45 horses is supposed to give you .7 off the 1/4 as well.
He could have other issues like cam timing or the dealer gave him stage 1 reflash (according to my dealer there is a difference).

They're in Canada so there is no duty or BS brokerage fees or anything. Welds on the bar were a bit heavy but not as bad as the pics on their site. The bar is pretty heavy duty and more of a performance peice than a show peice.
Link Here (http://www.jbodyperformance.com/new/PartDetails.php?partId=906&catId=906&catName=JP0906)
I forgot to update this. Price shipped was $147 and change from JBP. They got it to me in 8 days, so 6 business days shipped.

I still have a hard time with this. Call me a fool but I want to see how much of a difference this really makes. I do believe it will make a difference just not by that much to make a STage II with four people = stock with one person.

Pablo 06-03-2006, 04:02 PM lol maybe makes a difference in a honda civic that does 80MPH in a 1/4 but I dont agree that is makes much of a difference at all.
This was actually in a FWD Dodge Charger, and it went 11.62@125MPH :D
Just wondering if anyone went out for a cruise tonight. I would have.. but I'm not feeling very good, and my current car is a pile!! HAHA
Hopefully I'll take delivery of my new baby this week, and see some of you guys out next sunday night!!!
zomghax 06-05-2006, 10:03 AM I went out for a bit at around 10:30. Nice night for a cruise. Portage was a crawl though, and there were a ton of cops out. Had a ghost car on my ass for a bit on Main until a rice burner flew past me, cut me off across two lanes and made a stupid left turn. The ghost car ditched me at that point :) When are people going to learn that Sunday is not the night to drive like a tool?
...Sunday is not the night to drive like a tool?
Well.. the fact that they haven't learned to not be a tool in day-to-day life pretty much shows that they will never learn..

I heard about that, I thought it was only a problem on the 05's because of the difference in the engine mounts. The 05's have a flat mount, the 06's have ribs in the mount?.. Or is it the other way around...?

Asphalt Assault 06-15-2006, 11:18 PM what kind of mod u do to the airbox??? i noticed my super charger wine is alot louder now since i installed the stage 2
I put in a drop in filter and drilled a few holes in the bottom of the box (4 about 1" in diameter.) it is definitely louder. Can't really compare it. you would like my mod, more are and still provides protection from water and dirt.
anolass 06-16-2006, 12:38 AM did it void ur warranty when u did ur air box mod and do u have a howto with a an filter size?
Asphalt Assault 06-16-2006, 12:49 AM did it void ur warranty when u did ur air box mod and do u have a howto with a an filter size?
No it wont void warranty unless the change is proven to be the cause of failure. But dont take my word for it. a dealer will fight it. I not afraid of it. I have suspension changes too.
I am considering the Stage 2 kit but feel that GM leaves to much on the table and the tune they provide has room for improvement as proven by other forum members.
the Filter is a K&N drop in filter E-0777. pop out the old and put in the new. simple as that.
anolass 06-16-2006, 01:10 AM where abouts did u drill the holes im not really familiar with the whole car yet as ive had it only month now
Jerzrae 06-16-2006, 01:14 AM Can the airbox mod be done on a non SC as well?
zomghax 06-16-2006, 01:35 AM Can the airbox mod be done on a non SC as well?
Yeah, I have done pretty much the same thing (great minds eh ssnipes?)... Our K&N drop-in part number is different. I also removed my passenger side wheel well liner and ripped out the stock intake resonator. I then remvoved my stock intake box and drilled about a dozen 1/2" holes in the bottom of it. When you remove it you'll notice a whole bunch of squares formed in the plastic from the factory. I basically put a hole in the middle of each one with the biggest drill bit I had handy. Getting that intake resonator out can be a pain because there is a bolt and a plastic pin holding it in place. This was just to tide me over until I get an intake, which might take awhile since I"m going to need winter tires and crap before snow flies.
EuteR 06-16-2006, 03:04 AM drilling holes seems more ghetto to me then removing the whole bottom! Atleast it can be put back to normal the way I have it done!
What made u decide to do it that way?

I haven't seen a 2.0L stock intake but it sounds like our setups are different. Can't just cut off the bottom of a 2.4L intake. It's kind of needed to hold our intake box and filter in place. And taking a sawzall and chopping off the bottom of a box is way more ghetto then drilling a few precise and clean holes

I have another air box coming. plan on doing more extreme mods then. the factory cap then can be switched between winter and summer. no need.
you seem to be against do it yourself work. what's up with that. sometimes you just can't get what you want from the aftermarket world and you have to make it. that holds true with the stage 2 tune from gm. solution? HP tuners (is that ghetto too?) Its OK to question. I question your methods too through. your air filter can fall off without knowing it or did you use zip ties as a saftey precaution? People have called your mod as ghetto. I say it is smart.
the reason I did it with the drop in filter is for a couple of reasons.
1. I have the same filter surface area as the stock filter. (depending on the cone you bought you may not)
2. I will avoid CELs this way.
3. I can still go back to stock. just find another bottom piece.
4. I still wanted the filter to protected from the elements (water). Leaving the bottom off does not do this.
5. I dont think the flow restriction is necessarily the air coming in to the air box especially with a few more holes. I have more inlett area then the tube now. once you have a aftermarket filter element the next restriction is the air intake plumbing itself. which I am working on to solve. best of all no one can tell other than hearing the difference.
agree or disagree with my methods!? my theories that I want to use. Your way is not wrong, I just like this method better for now. until I learn more.
EuteR 06-16-2006, 06:01 PM Uhhh what... Gettin a little ahead of yourself here.. How can I be against do it yourself mods when I have done one myself.. My filter is held on with a clamp that came with the filter. I was holding the whole airbox assembly by the filter and shaking it, making sure it wasn't going to come of, and trust me, its not. Maybe you just think to in depth of things that might happen.. You only live once.. Just do it. lol
I can still go back to stock too, just have to put the old filter in and stick the bottom back on. I dont have to go looking around for a new bottom.
As for the elements.. where the filter is located, it is kind of hidden anyways. Im not too concerned about water and dirt, as it has been on the car for 30K and no problems what so ever. (with new filters along the way obviously)
Dont get me wrong with all this, but I would still much rather just take the bottom off then drill holes. But hey, we each have different opinions and thats cool, no need to get worked up about it really, as its personal preference, and in the end, I really dont give a shit what you do to your car.. As its YOURS, but I will tell you what I think, thats just the way I am.
And also, I know my method is ghetto, as I go around calling it the ghetto mod.. I had a injen for a bit, but didnt fit worth ass, and i didnt notice a difference over the ghetto mod, so I returned it.
See you on the street!! :D

Euter LOL I wasnt upset. I have not seen your mode either. My caution was to the fact I had a cone filter on a different vehicle. the clamp loosened and the filter fell off. only noticed when I had the hood open. I was just recommending a back up to just having a clamp that was all.

If you cruise portage that is the first thing they will check on your car. then they will make you take it off. just a waste of money.
on top of that you live in the country. more than 35% is horrible. I hated it. had to roll down windows at a crossing at night to drive safe cause you cant see the ditch. car lights are just halos.
IMO stay with legal tint. its is safer, you will be able to keep it on, and you wont waste your money cause some cop can make you rip it off.
EuteR 06-19-2006, 04:31 PM i've got 35% on the car and havnt had any problems.. I drive with the windows down 99% of the time. Not because Im scared of a ticket, but because I just like driving with the windows down!

Personally the CEL doesnt bother me anymore.. Its been on for 30,000K, Im used to it.
I wouldnt put the K & N in if it did nothing for the whine. For me, the whine is what makes the car so much fun to drive!!
I have also never experienced limp mode??? What does it do, just cut u off for a bit?
I have whine. may not be as much as your mode but it might be. I will let you here it sometime. maybe July 9 at the pancake house or cruizing one night. I didnt just put in a filter. the box is modified. if I get another box I will do more.
Limp mode - I was drivng with low fuel and engine was about 5,000rpm then the Dash guages went dead and the power was way down. it felt and sounded like it was running on two cylinders. I pulled over and turned it off. waited about a minute and turned it back on. sounded the same but now I have a cel and the guages were back. so I turned it off to think of what I should do. I decided to drive it off St. Mary's road and get a tow. then it worked perfectly from there with no CEL. wierd. I think bill gates has his hands in the programming of the PCM.
What CEL do you get? if you dont know I have a code reader.

The car is going to be at Murrays for so long.. Here is a list of the current problems it is going in for
1. Exhaust leak
2. Bother driver/passenger window squeak bad
3. Clunks sometimes when putting it into first gear and reverse
4. When reversing and using the brakes, it sounds like a bus coming to a stop
5. Front bumper lose (I guess they didnt tighten it after the repaint?!?!)
6. Coolant fill resevoir bracket broken
7. Sunroon rattle
8. Front end noise (took tech for a drive, he even said it sounded like a bowling ball was rolling around up there)
9. Front tires bald. LOL, i kid i kid, that ones my bad. lol
10. Hiccup when accelerating sometimes.. Happens around 5200-5500 RPM
Thats all I can think of for now. Fuckin car..
On a side note, got a 4 door base model for a rental, and im happy to say that the SS/SC has a better L/KM rating then this base model.(according to the display). Keep in mind my foot made of lead. lol
Dropped the car off, it was at 10.2L/100K, and the base model was at 10.4 when it was picked up!
Asphalt Assault 06-28-2006, 11:26 AM I dont know if you saw this yet... But here is a little vid of the whine the ghetto mod gives you!

Well I heard your injen. mine is louder than stock. how loud in comparison is hard to say. that is why we need to compare.
My coolant reservoir broke too, no biggie. it is a metal replacement. wont happen again. my door handle rattle with the stereo going which sucks. Front tires are bald too, I dont understand that.
other than that I am good. The clutch seems to be doing better this year. I have been to gimili and I expected it to slip there. no problems though. amazing compared to last summer. I thought it would have failed by now, not fix itself. I am guessing that since it was intermittant sliping it was due to hydraulics. nothing to confirm that though.
EuteR 06-28-2006, 11:27 AM ya i havnt had any probs with my clutch which so ever.. It suprises me because so many people have so many problems so early on. I have not experienced any slip! Lets hope it stays that way!

your 30,000? probably wont have a problem then. I did at 3,000 to 7,000 then came winter.
EuteR 06-28-2006, 11:32 AM more like 35,000.. why does it have to be such a blast to drive :(
Asphalt Assault 06-28-2006, 08:51 PM Sold my headlights! now I cant see in the dark.
Halo projections coming. Sweet. Coming in black. If that does not look right with windows tinted then I am considering painting them red to match the car. but I think black will look right. On a poll in at my CARDOMAIN that was everone elses choice. only one person chose chrome.
Check out my cardomain on the first page to see how they look.
EuteR 07-01-2006, 10:22 AM Murray is useless. Now they are tryin to tell me that the exhaust is not leaking. HAHAHAHA!! What a bunch of retards!
They probably stood underneath, shook some stuff and called it a day! All while putting on 12 kilometers.
Time to take it somewhere else I guess, because this leak is making me very angry, and its more then just a leak.. At around 3K RPM, it makes whatever is loose make a vibrating sound!
On a side note, picked up a new cone filter, blue this time around.. lol.

for what you are saying and what murray's is saying perhaps it is the baffles in your muffler that are starting to go causing a different sound and vibration. Just a thought dont cut me up. I have not been in your car to hear it.
EuteR 07-01-2006, 07:00 PM Hold on.. Let me find my big knife. lol
Definitally not a baffle.. A buddy and I had the car jacked up and our heads under there.. It is coming from the manifold area.. And that vibration sounds like its comin from under the hood! But the car has to be under "load" to hear the vibration!
What a day.. I think it took me close to an hour to edit out our plates in these pictures....
Anyway, check em out!

P.S. Dayn can't drive! Way to start in 3rd gear there buddy... Stick Noob.

Asphalt Assault 07-03-2006, 12:53 AM Eh Maj and Dayn,
Could you believe those guys with that mustang 5.0L LOL. you know I would love to take them out to Gimli to shut them up. I am not sure that I believe that car can do anything. They were talking sideways. Would have been great to them out to ther perimeter but I have vowed not to get involved in street racing. They just seemed to full of smoke. probably will never know as they wouldnt pay $40 and gas money to go to Gimili. Next time I go (with some changes to the car) you two should come along. it would be a blast.
EuteR 07-03-2006, 04:24 AM yup, i have smoked a few 5.0's
At the track of course

these guys were in the park while we were shooting pictures. they were talking they were all modded, but didnt elaborate to much. they were funny actually. their talking (while holding thier beers) that they beat a car that did 13's in one race. I was like that doesnt mean anything! it was one race. I told them in the same day I had runs that were a second apart. you cant tell me it was his best race. they were like deer caught in headlights. in was kinda funny.

Yeah, those two guys were pretty rediculous. They for sure ruined the moment for me. I was having a blast talking about the cars and taking pictures, and then those two idiots rolled up and the fun just seemed to go away. I kinda figured that's why you said you had to leave out of no where. It worked out nicely though, as it got us away from them.
Btw, sorry we missed you on Sunday (if you were out) it was one of my friends birthdays so I spent the evening at the Kings Head.
EuteR 07-03-2006, 05:05 PM Well the car is pretty much not driveable. It sounds like the exhaust isnt even connected anymore. lol
Once again, I hate Murray!
Eh Maj and Dayn,

Well I would love to go but would you be willing to give me a lift? this car and Maj's expensive lunches have set me back a bit :cussing:
just PM me if it is ok and then we can get in touch. I also work mon-fri so it needs to be weekendish.
EuteR 07-04-2006, 03:44 AM saw ssnipes sittin on the side of the road by burger factory with a blue SS..
I drove past in the black primer s-10 on air, was around midnight

My car or your truck tint isnt dark enough? I have no tint LOL. I was closer to McD's at Erin... not really close to the burger factory. Met up with Haspano1.
I think you SUCK cause you were out in something that you were embarrassed to been seen in. Snob. just drives by!:cussing: :thumbsdow   ;)
Yeah Tint is on the list. Halos come friday as engine mods are coming. wont be stock anymore. Impressed a few guys last night in a jimmy. they thought the car was crazy, could not believe it was stock. Were definitely starting to earn some respect out there.

No no.. I meant my car!
As in.. The exhaust is sooooo loud and obnoxious that my tint isnt dark enough to hide me from embarrasment! lol Your car has 1 major mod that I am extremely jelous of that outweighs the tint anyways!! *cough* wing *cough*
Anyways.. Called Orion at 7:30 this morning and they fit me in.. Got down there and picked up a Malibu for a rental! Hopefully it is fixed by tonight and I will be back to ricing around.

RICING AROUND? :wtf:
I sure you meant rAcing but man that was a funny typo. Are you getting a Bigger wing, fart can with ghetto performance like drilling holes in it to cover up the exhaust leak.  :p: :poke:
EuteR 07-04-2006, 10:25 AM no, i meant ricing around. lol
Ya Im gettin them to bolt on a second SS wing.. 1 just isnt enough!
I like the subtle sound of the stock ehaust.. But could probably be persuaded to drill some holes.. ahah. Kidding, kidding.. No holes thanks!
