View Full Version : s/c grease
restonSS 01-20-2009, 10:17 PM ok, so i have my heart set on the massive turbo for those of you who have seen the thread, but for now my belt still slips and i prob wont be turboing it until the beginning of summer when classes are over. So my question is:
When i ported the supercharger dumb me washed it (that part isnt dumb) but i washed out all the blue grease in the bearings where the rotors plug into. I had to have my car driveable so i just didnt think anything of it and put it back together. Do you think the reason why im still slipping is bc the bare metal on metal aka no grease on the bearings making it harder to turn at high rpms? Ive literally tried and have everything to fix the slip and this is the last thing i can think of. So, is it worth a try or no?
mrbelvedere 01-21-2009, 12:40 AM yea lack of lube is a bad thing
Sharkey 01-21-2009, 12:52 AM yea those bearings are probly toast now, however you might get luckey an be able to just grease them.
what pulley, belt, and tensioner are you running???
ShortStack 01-21-2009, 10:57 AM you washed... the inside... of your supercharger?
restonSS 01-21-2009, 03:05 PM yeah i took it apart completely, like i only washed the housing. how else are you supposed to be sure you got out all of the little metal bits from porting the supercharger?
ShortStack 01-21-2009, 03:07 PM Pressurized Air...
You said you washed away the grease... did you replace it?
PRND3L 01-21-2009, 03:08 PM yeah i took it apart completely, like i only washed the housing. how else are you supposed to be sure you got out all of the little metal bits from porting the supercharger?
shop air.
this reminds me of the guy who flushed his auto trans with a garden hose, then wondered why he needed a new trans.
ShortStack 01-21-2009, 05:38 PM lol...
I mean... come on...
i think when he washed away the grease he should have thought that it might have needed to be there...
Dayta 01-21-2009, 05:41 PM you washed...... the inside........ of your supercharger.....
ShortStack 01-21-2009, 05:43 PM ^^^ :) lol
PRND3L 01-21-2009, 05:44 PM you washed... the inside... of your supercharger?
you washed...... the inside........ of your supercharger.....
You washed...... the inside...... of your supercharger???
what color??
ShortStack 01-21-2009, 05:45 PM Metal Flake Colored
PRND3L 01-21-2009, 05:52 PM just dump some sand in there, it will fix the supercharger and port and polish your engine.
07YellowSS 01-21-2009, 05:58 PM Why dident you drain your engine oil while you were at it. Seriously......
LOL what did you think was going to happen.
PRND3L 01-21-2009, 08:45 PM R tard bumpage
restonSS 01-22-2009, 09:01 AM you guys are idiots. like really. if you read the post you would have seen i said i needed to drive the car. Also when i was washing it i had plugs in the wholes, but come blue greas still came out. i didnt like scrub in there. youre all jerks. really. and we wonder why this site has gone to shit. I was just asking if that could be a possibility of why my s/c is still slipping.

Site goes to shit cause we have great members like you. I'll be back in a minute. Gotta go flush out my gas tank with some soapy water. :cssNET:
Zach06CobaltSC 01-22-2009, 09:20 AM restonSS - It's possible that the lack of grease is making it harder to rotate thus making your belt slip. You should apply grease to all parts that were originally greased when you wash them.
hawlyns711 01-22-2009, 09:47 AM ^i agree with this guy, how do you know for a fact that you're slipping? boost isn't going to max? but you should grease those bearings before you come back in this thread and tell us something happened to your s/c. it'll be worth your time taking it apart again.
DebadgedBALT77 01-22-2009, 09:50 AM washing machine or dishwasher FTW! who cleans by hand these days anyway?
umrdyldo 01-22-2009, 09:59 AM I say pressure washer. :)
Sorry for making fun. Like the others said. Get it greased sooner than later, then report back.
hawlyns711 01-22-2009, 10:00 AM washing machine or dishwasher FTW! who cleans by hand these days anyway?
people who aren't afraid to get their hands dirty ;)

great members like me? when did i say i needed to flush my gas tank with soapy water? hey why dont you go run a 16 second quater mile when ur done flushing your tank. ill say it again, i had plugs in the holes and a bit of blue grease came out, not a ton. I needed to drive the car asap. The porting took longer than i thought and putting it all back on. i must know something considering ive done all of this to my car and installed it all myself. oh and i built a custom turbo kit for a scion tc. before i ran it i flushed my gas tank with soapy water...idiot.lol
ShortStack 01-22-2009, 10:36 AM I think the whole thing is...
You should never really spray water inside a housing... i mean.. i know it seemed like a good idea.. but youd never wash out your cylinders would you? (not trying to act funny)
A pressurized air tank with a hose would have just blasted all the metal flakes out.. and would have left you with a less damaged super charger..
the chances the bears are already shot is high... which is why your belt is slipping (because your supercharger just cant turn anymore)...
Take it to a machine shop to see if anything has worn out or through due to no lube.
restonSS 01-22-2009, 10:43 AM yeah, i ordered s/c grease last night. im taking apart the s/c again to check out the bearings and re grease them as soon as it comes in.
also remember
1. only a little bit of grease came out.
2. I only slip when i get to like 5700 rpms on a 2.6 pulley.
thats why i dont think they are completely shot.
PRND3L 01-22-2009, 10:50 AM It comes down to this, YOU DONT CLEAN ENGINE PARTS WITH WATER!!!!!!! /THREAD!!!!!
ShortStack 01-22-2009, 10:53 AM i dont think they are completely gone... i just think they may be creating too much friction after it starts spinning so fast.
umrdyldo 01-22-2009, 10:55 AM Whoa running a 2.6, Make sure you have proper belt tension as well.
ShortStack 01-22-2009, 10:56 AM he does...
mrbelvedere 01-22-2009, 11:30 AM well when you hone cylnders out the best way to clean them is with soapy water washing car parts in soapy water dosent hurt a thing as long as you dry them and relube the stuff needing it after your done
PRND3L 01-22-2009, 11:32 AM well when you hone cylnders out the best way to clean them is with soapy water washing car parts in soapy water dosent hurt a thing as long as you dry them and relube the stuff needing it after your done
the best way is to use ATF when honing, cuz all it is is a heavy detergent. Using water in engine parts, especially parts that are meant to be left sealed, should always be your last alternative. there is brake clean, degreasers, and solvants.
ShortStack 01-22-2009, 11:33 AM well when you hone cylnders out the best way to clean them is with soapy water washing car parts in soapy water dosent hurt a thing as long as you dry them and relube the stuff needing it after your done
relubing is the major part.
PRND3L 01-22-2009, 11:36 AM relubing is the major part.
yeah, no shit!!!! the OP just hosed it down and reassembled.
mrbelvedere 01-22-2009, 11:43 AM well when you get a block back from the machine shop do you need to clean it yes you do all of the oil galleys need to be cleaned along with the bores drainbacks hot soapy water with dawn in it is the best way to clean with a galley brush then rinse with water then follow it up with compressed air to dry every thing out and then wipe the bores with oil and spray wd 40 or what ever you like in the oil passages drainbacks and anyplace you feel like ( i mask and paint my blocks after i give them a thorough was and dry the oil ) and when you have worked for a shop that all they do is build 50 to 100 grand dirt track engines you tend to pay attention to what goes on and how things are done
PRND3L 01-22-2009, 11:47 AM well when you get a block back from the machine shop do you need to clean it yes you do all of the oil galleys need to be cleaned along with the bores drainbacks hot soapy water with dawn in it is the best way to clean with a galley brush then rinse with water then follow it up with compressed air to dry every thing out and then wipe the bores with oil and spray wd 40 or what ever you like in the oil passages drainbacks and anyplace you feel like ( i mask and paint my blocks after i give them a thorough was and dry the oil ) and when you have worked for a shop that all they do is build 50 to 100 grand dirt track engines you tend to pay attention to what goes on and how things are done
now you are talking about powerwashing blocks, he stuck a garden hose in his supercharger.
when you do a complete tear down, yup, i use water too, but coating everything in wd-40 is the key.
07YellowSS 01-22-2009, 04:45 PM Not to be an ass but Wasent there a thread on Reasons NOT to port your factory eaton ????
If those are sealed bearings then you most likely have to replace them.....
ShortStack 01-22-2009, 05:03 PM Well... you can slightly port it...
there is a very small barrier thats easy to cross on how much you actually take off while porting that will make it less efficient.
lsjwannabe 01-22-2009, 05:08 PM How long have you been driving like this? First thing i would do is stop driving until you can get that blower off the car. Order some grease and relube go from there. You would know if you are belt slipping, it would be a very high pitched squeal and there would be shavings by the snout.
restonSS 01-22-2009, 06:30 PM i know my belt is slipping but there are no shavings by the snout. my god everyone. ok. stop posting here until i respond with what the grease does. the grease is on its way.
