I am currently getting ~28.5mpg freeway right now, which I guess is decent for it being 20* outside and having the winter fuel out there. If someone has a stage2 SC 2.0 versus a stock engine will there be a difference in mpg on the freeway? I tend to think there shouldn't be a drop in mpg so long as you aren't using more throttle or boost. I don't expect to be upgrading to stage2 anytime soon since this is my DD and its pretty fun as is. But I was considering an intake, maybe a header or muffler down the road. I'm not looking to gain much power, maybe get some more sound from the blower and exhaust note but thats about it. Will breathers cause mpg drop on the freeway? Thanks!

3.1 pulley here getting 32 mpg @ 65 cruise control on the turnpike everyday. intake and axle back exhaust. if you don't give a shit about money just buy a cat-back. but intake and cat-back will raise you mpg's slightly. you wont be like omg big ass difference but small difference.
also this is my daily driver also with just zzp stage 2...

06SS, is that during the winter months that you get 32mpg or was that just your best when it was summer still? I was driving an 02 taurus (nuff said) and was getting 29 freeway but it dropped to 24.5 in winter. Im hoping the cobalt increases in summer as well.

this is winter months i'm in the neighbor state of ya (PA) i've had my balt since 2 days after i registered on here aka join date... so i have not drove in the summer. winter will give you better mpg's anyway. its better detenation i would say. the colder the air the better the motor runs. if you still all stock i would get the axle back exhaust and a air box mod. search the air box mod in the how to and the axle back exhaust in the 2.0 lsj section. i have threads already opened and asked every question there is. also i would recomend contacting this guy on here ShortStack. he always had the right answer for me and is a real cool dood def. but before contacting him use that search button its a powerful thing

Not to argue but winter never gives better fuel economy. When its cold out your engine takes in more O2 which is registered in the o2 sensors. That requires more fuel just to make a stoich reading. And the gas in winter is known to be lower quality with more impurities. Yes they run better when cold due to less detonation but that means more horsepower, which means more fuel. :)

My digital mpg gauge says I'm getting 26-27mpg right now and at the pump I'm actually getting almost 29. So don't believe what those computers say. They are just making a calculation based on your cruising speed and injector pulse widths as an average.

dont trust mine. says av speed is 24mph(ha should be twice that) mpg was 23.4 then a 500mile trip all highway put it at 24.3. can you reset the DIC?

My 06 has the two buttons on the dash. One to change the display, the other to reset it. So I reset trip A every fillup and then compare the computers average versus how many gallons I put in to see if its off. I reset the avg mpg meter every fillup. But that computer isn't factoring in wind, uphill/downhill etc. It's not there for scientific calculations lol, just a quick reference. So if it goes from 28 to 12 you know something is wrong. I drive all freeway at 70 and its saying 28.6 today. Since Im not boosting Im just using 87, seems to work well.
