Angry HOLY $)($@%!#^ Brake Pads

Okay so I got some bad news. After 2 months I finally got sick of my local dealer not telling me anything on when my rear pads were supposed to be coming in so I called the dealer I got the car from. Instead of talking to service I just called the parts dept. directly, didnt mention that I already had been waiting, and just asked if they had them in stock. Heres the info I got:

According to the Parts manager GM is "Currently waiting for a contract to be finalized with a new parts vendor for the pads. The date the contract is supposed to be finished is somewhere in mid-February. However, delivery date of new pads is not expected until...... August 2009!!!!!! WTF!

Did anybody else know it wasnt going to be until August!? This sucks. I may just see if theres anything in the aftermarket and just do it myself. If I buy aftermarket through my shop I get it all wholesale anyways.

Well if you find aftermarket buy it but make your dealership pay for it since GM clearly is dropping the ball. Are you guys not able to drive your cars because of this?

dude your better off going aftermarket. think of it this way, yeah the warranty is free, but they are just gonna put the same pads on and a couple miles later your gonna have the same problem. IMO i would go aftermarket. (they are better anyway)

Some people havent been driving them. Im still driving mine but the back brakes are turning to $hit. The other day someone stopped short in front of me and when I hit my brakes the back end started sliding out which is a good sign the rears really arent applying any stopping power.

I dont think they will be the same pads because supposedly GM is working with a new vendor now because of the problems with the current pads. Thats why its going to take so long to get the parts, theyre doing all the legal stuff now and then they still have to produce and distribute them.

There was a problem with the stock pads in the rear, pretty much every SS/TC owner is having this problem. Supposedly it was an abnormally high metallic content in the pads causing them to wear extremely quick....This is why GM is now trying to get a contract with a new vendor.

Have they always or just started?

It's normal for them to squeal at slower speeds. There are many threads about it.

But if it is something that just recently started I'd check 'em.

Funny, I will take a pic of mine, but all seems to be ok. However I only have 2000Km on the car. But still, no heavy scratches, noises, fade, etc. I am going to ask my dealership to order me a pair and see what they say as well.

I would be livid with GM to the point I would be taking some serious legal action. They have an obligation to support the new cars that they sell , may it be warranty or not, it's in you're contract you signed with GMAC. If they re nag on that deal, and you end up paying for a car you cannot get fixed and cannot be driven as a result, I would go after them for the money I spent to a) make up for the lost transportation (taxi's, busses, car pool fees') and b ) the montly payments made on a car that is mothballed after a year.

I better stop, I am getting heated up over this. What's frustrating and alarming here is we are talking about brake pads. Can you imagine whats going to happen if something serious arises. I have the feeling now that if my car has a serious problem, I may be without it for 6 months!!!

Anybody here tried Hawk brake pads? Some of my SRT4 and MS3 friends have tried them and really like them. HPS pas are street/track pads, HP plus are geared more to track than street since they need a higher minimum operating temperature.

OTT perfomance has rear pads for ours cars for around $68. Not bad considering GM wants over double that for their pads which they apparently do not even have.

i must ask.........the front rotors vs the rear rotors and no i'm not doing an MS paint lol but i'll quickly locate a pic to show wat i'm talking about...........my front rotors seem like they stick out more than the rears(no i actually suck at explaining things so bear with me pls) the rear rotors appear to be flush with the middle of the rear corners(the hub??) Does this mean my rear rotors are worn down and shot to ****?

see how the middle of the rotor sticks out a bit?? my rears are not like that.......bad???

Did the dealer pay or did you do it yourself?

Rear rotors are typically more shallow than front rotors because they do not apply as much of the stopping force.

How many miles on your car.
Drive it Hard?

O'Reilly Autoparts has several types of pads available for 2007 SS/SC neat STL. I'm sure you can buy online.
