Ok guys I am hoping I am posting this in the right section. I am a college student and cant afford to do anything but the GM stg. 2 because of the warranty issues. Anyways a buddy of mine is selling his GM stg. 2 and his tuner was able to pull his GM tune off his car and is willing to put it onto mine when we install the injectors and pulley. Is this possible? Or will my computer reject the tune. Will GM say anything? Please help me out guys a.s.a.p.

Rusty, it won't reject the tune. But, a GM dealership, if they check, will be able to tell if it's not the legit tune from GM, because iirc there is a code that comes with the kit. I'm not sure how that works, but Rusty, just have the stage 2 put on, and Steve can tweak it when he comes out.

TECHNICALLY, you are "voiding your warranty" by doing that. GM has been checking for aftermarket tunes lately... and since your "GM Stg2 tune" will be coming from HPTuners, and not the dealership, it will show up as an aftermarket tune. Of course, they would have to PROVE that your mods are responsible... BUT, who has the time, money, or BALLS to take the Dealership/GM to court and fight about it?

i do because i have already fought with them once when they tried to tell me mt A.B.M. caused my I/C pump to go out. Ok I dnt think u guys r understanding. It is the actual GM stg. 2 from GM. it was just on a buddys car and will now go on mine

haha, your cut up airbox caused your IC pimp to go out, lol

the thing is rusty, like i said, there is a code that comes with it, and they put it in the system i think along with your vin. It's been a while since i stopped researching the stgII because its a better deal to get the ott stage 1. OTTs stage kit, INCLUDING the tune is cheaper than just the parts for GM's kit, which doesn't even add as much performance.

It doesn't matter if it is coming off of one of GM's CEO's cars.

1.) If your car doesn't get put into GM's system as having a NEW GM Stg2 kit (every Kit comes with a code that they put into the system - that code gives them a tune for your car, and then logs it into GM's system that you are a Stg2 car now).

2.) Getting flashed by HPTuners is a no-no at GM's warranty department... doesn't matter WHAT tune they put on your car with HPTuners... it will show up as an aftermarket tune. TRUST ME... plenty of people have been down this road.

I learned this a long time ago (2 years ago actually)...

...GM parts or not... they will try and fuck you... just like they did me, when all I had was a dealer installed GM Stg2, GMPP Header, and GMPP Cat-Back.

They'll just say that you were driving it aggressively.

Warranty is overrated... fuck it.

Its funny how the Cobalt community RAVES over its warranty. There is no warranty. There is only BUTTSECKS! That's how you get the dealership to replace parts free of charge.

Rusty, i am going to be brutally honest with you, if you can't afford to break it, don't make it faster.

PM Fast98 or LSJwannabe, you can talk to those guys, and get the parts for a kit that has say,a 2.9 or 3" pulley and the injectors and harness, Less of a drastic performance change, and still, an excellent tune.

And listen to Rob about the warrenty. Some dealers will replace a tranny blown at the track for free, some will say you put in the wrong brand of gas and charge you for a new sterio. Just how it is man.

ok Will be honest with me. I'll give u my set up and let me know wat u think. I have the GMPP catback, pacesetter header and custom dp, injen cai, ottp h/e, ported and polished blower. I really dnt race that much but it would be nice to just punch it once in a while and make those ricer kids cream their pants.lol. Would this be a good kit for me? I have heard a lot of people blow their motors with the 60 injectors

ls1fbody
02-01-2009, 09:01 AM
People blow the LSJ because of a poor tune and lack of solid cooling mods whcih usually nets them a broken piston.

Check the suggestion above, in your case, i would suggest a 3.0 or 2.9, with OTT's 60# injectors, and harness, plus tune and plugs.

It's not the injectors that cause the motor to blow, its that they are pushing the motor enough to need the 60's, but not backing that up with a good tune and cooling mods.

The OTT tune is solid, and they will work with you to get what you are looking for.

alright thanks Will ur the best.lol. is there really a big diff. between the 3.0,2.9, and 2.8?

you build boost quicker, but maybe .5lb between each, if that.

but, not totally sure on the numbers, e-mail OTT, they will answer these questions 100% without a doubt, and get you an excellent tune.

please make sure that the people that are recommending a company's kit have one

you can always ask different members how their kit is

and how much is your buddy selling his kit for ?

you gona have a gmpp header or DP? then they will void your warranty anyway if they so choose, thats all they need, not a gmpp header or DP.

hello! my name is haji... i am here to tune your car.

seriously though i will tune you if you want, i live close and my tunes are safe... if your worried i make em extra safe... (which defeats the purpose of tuning but what ev)

gm has already made your car safe... your faster after a tune cause now its up to you not to blow the car up... its all on you...

i dunno know man good luck with it. I went GM stage 2 instead of OTT for the same reasons as you. GM stage 2 isnt all that bad, and in theory is more reliable being that its a larger pulley... besides the performance is good

but the tune is vin specific, so if you swapped computers, it wouldnt show the correct vin with the tune.. but would they care is the real question...

i can think of only one solution... keep the car stock and spray a small shot 35-50 wet of coarse. virtually undetectable unless some $$$ is dropped on testing.

come across a used stock intake and drill it for nozzle, if anything ever happens put the stock one on and drive that bitch in smoking and chugging lol...

come to think of it why didnt i do this...

LOL , kinda like the kids that put the fogger kits on rental cars hehe.

There are alot of things i would do over now . CSS.net has Fads.....Remember when everyone was hooked on GMPP exhaust's .....Or when a 2.79's was popular? It's been a learning experience, I do wish i would have went with a 2.5" exhaust thou.

ever taken a look at it? i have it.... i wasnt fooled into buying it, i had to keep my warranty so i got it, not much more to it. Ive seen the threads about it.. Performance gain is good IMO.. its not the fastest, but thats not what im looking for... so what was your point?
