Thumbs up 08 SS/TC Arrives at Home

Hey,

Well after tracking down rims that pass the calipers on this thing and snows for the car (difficult to get snows around here with the new mandate in Quebec requiring snows) it has finally arrived at home in my driveway. Traded in my '05 LS on Saturday and all I can say after the initial drive home is even trying to drive this car sane, it wants to go!!

Anyways, took a few pics, sorry for the quality since it was dusk and my camera had a tough time adjusting. I said the sad goodbyes to my LS (it was an excellent car throughout the 4 years I owned it), and now time to start a new chapter with my 08 TC .

Anyways, these aren't resized so if they come out large I apologize (with my resolution I can never tell).

Also, a HUGE HUGE thanks to everyone at my dealership (MacMaster Chevrolet here in London) who worked on finding and fitting numerous sets of rims over the last week. Same goes to these forums which I know were referenced on more than a single occasion trying to track down information on the wheels, etc.

Thanks Darin. I was joking with the parts deparment that I wasn't sure which to keep on in the winter and the summer since I had not seen the rims prior to showing up today for final delivery...man was I shocked when I saw these things installed!!

They're about 10lbs heavier than the stock rims but I might look forward to winters now if for nothing else but seeing the car undergo a visual transformation .

you are required to have snow tires in canada? wtf?? Do they give you a government check or something to go buy a whole other set of wheels/tires? what if you can't afford it? Damn. What do they go door to door and check everybodies tires? that seems like a silly mandate.

if you have ever been to quebec, you might understand why its mandatory. Its only mandatory there, not anywhere else in canada

So far. The rest of the country is looking at doing it across the next few years, which wouldn't be a bad idea. It would most likely bring down the number of accidents in the winter, that's for sure!

Right now I couldn't tell you. I've considered exhaust and a CAI, and after reading here replacing the boost pipes, but I wasn't planning on requiring 18" rims and Michelin Pilot snows so that set me back considerably for a snow wheel and tire package .

As for mandatory snow tires, I completely agree with Quebec's approach, but I have concerns that people might start to think snow tires means "invincible" and not adjust their driving style accordingly. I'm not expecting as much grip out of these being a low profile and my LS had 16" Michelin X-Ice with a much larger and more flexible sidewall.

To bigrroberto, it's so true, having the Univiersities and College here makes cruising around entertaining in the spring and fall, but come summer it's dead as anything when they all go home. Better get it all in once spring shows it's face but I'm expecting at least another month of this crap with the hellish winter we've had.

Thanks to everyone else for the compliments and 1WhiteSSTC thanks for pointing out my signature was in need of changing, I completely forgot!

Sick ass rims. I recently took the balt out when we had a fair amount of snow on the roads. Got damn it really does suck in the snow.... complete wheel spin in first and second EVERY time! No matter how light I was on the gas!

I agree with the person who said that the government should be giving out money to help people purchase tires when they are "required" to have them. Think about families with not a lot of money. $1000+ for winter tires is a lot of money for some people.

I do, however, think it's a good idea is snowy/icy climates to help prevent accidents. I got winter skins and I would NEVER go back to "all season" tires in the winter.
