A simple tune, K&N dropin and IC charge pipes
Guys, girls... dont waste all your hard earned money on things like a IC upgrade, or a down pipe or exhaust or even a CAI unless you want your car to sound better or your at 330 whp or are planning a turbo upgrade and 370 whp and higher as ((these upgrades produce nearly no, to little power increase on a cobalt SS\TC with under 330 whp, they just help the turbo just spool better)).......
Met a guy with these few simple upgrades running 13 flat at 111 mph in the quarter, street tires and that's shifting where the power starts to fall off at 6000 rpm and his redline is a stock 6250rpm.... He has: ((a charge pipe upgrade, K&N drop-in and stevos tune))....... He's at 295 sae whp or as most on this site put (STD aka: corrected hp numbers) his corrcted STD is 302 whp......
What surprises me is for the 2 modds he has he's making all this power and he lives in the same climate area as me, and only 120 miles away... Just goes to show that all the other modds I listed are not worth it unless you're going for the big dogs turbo wise....
Smart guy.... It's pointless to take a car to redline unless you're trying for a land speed record......
I have a 7000rpm red line with my tune but I shift at 6200 rpm in 1-4th gears becasue that's where the power just starts to drop off steep.
Anyone want a 3" exhaust or DP or a CAI for cheap? hit me up and we'll talk...

When you shift a car at its peak hp (and not red line) that some times is great, but when your rpms drop, what will the hp be in the next gear. Say my red line is 7000 which creates 200hp, but my peak hp is 225@5600 rpms. I shift at (7000 rpms @200 hp, but it stays in my peak power band when it drops about 1500 rpms in the next gear. If I shift at the hp peak number at 5600 rpms, my next gear drops to 150hp @ 4000 rpms. In this example, if I rev past my peak hp number, I will stay in a better power band then if I shift at my peak and drop lower.
all i have is in my sig and i only got the aftermarket intercooler for better cooling into the engine. because i live in az. the stock intercooler is on my car right now and there is no difference in power. i have already ran a 13.2 with a 2.3 60 and that is just spining through 1st. and that is shifting at 6000rpms i have tried higher didnt help only slowed me down

I dont need the DP/exhaust or "upgraded" intercooler. Sorry but a Intercooler does not add HP. The DP would be the next bang for buck item, but I just dont need it. I already loose the wheels flooring it at 2nd around 3k rps....
I finally realized why the SC guys always want to shift at sky high RPM. Because they have no torque curve to fall back into. The turbos have a ton of torque, a lot of time more torque than HP.
Take revhigh for instance, he ran 8.4@87mph, I ran a 8.4@82.
when it comes to the tq curves, ours are super flat. While you ss/tc guys spike real high down low and fall off like a cliff as you accelerate through the rpms. Tiny Turbo syndrome.
The gearing in the ss/tc is what hinders them with a stock turbo. You can't even drop down in tire diameter as a "cheap" way to get better gearing because of your Ginormous brakes.
you are missing the point.
SS/SC make power up to 7K stock. Shifting at 7200-7500 puts you back in the powerband nicely.
Now make the gear longer with a 3.82 final drive, and shift a 1k rpms sooner. What happens?
That's right, the gearing starts to work against you.

All I know is that when I was at the dragstrip yesterday, if I shifted right at 6k, I got my best times. Revhigh was winding his TC out higher, but he has mods that allow it to breathe more at higher RPM. You folks really should look at your dyno sheet and see where power falls off and check out your torque curve. It'll be a little different for each individual car depending on your mods.
actually i would say that if you get all those mods then tune it after words since we all know the computer will catch on and put you right back to 260hp/260tq. You should get plenty of gains with the mods and tune combined. But yes without the tune the items are said to show from what iv seen on the hahn CAI alone was like a 12hp gain or something like that.
no, it's because the gearing is rediculously long. Look at how hatrickstu and myself can run high 12's/low 13's with much less power than the ss/tc's running the same time. The ss/tc's that run as fast as we do have 300+whp and well over 300wtq. But the gearing hurts them badly.

When you start comparing logs of stock cars and modded one you'll notice the stock ones need more psi to make the same power as modded cars. Every single restriction you get rid of makes the turbo work less, so i wouldn't say all those mods are useless.
It's the damn gearing.
Not so fast
Most people realize this lol...Tune is and always will be the best bang for the dollar on a turbo. I have 3 mods (charge piping cause I didnt want my stock to blow apart w/ the increased boost), Dejon SRI (I wanted to really hear the turbo) and trifecta tune (this gives me right around 300whp on a dynometer, getting dynoed in 2 weeks for official numbers).

Not enough to make any difference in acceleration......
My Intercooler upgrade was good for 9 whp and my 3" exhaust was only good for 4 whp as well.. These are REAL SAE numbers on a eddy current dyno jet..... Mustang Dyno's typically read very low... I would not believe all these overly high WHP claims from any of these venders
I got a total of near 14 whp with all three mods: Full 3" exhaust, 3" DP and bigger Intercooler. Plus, my tune was good for only 35 whp.... about typical drivetrain power loss for assisted cars 12-13% where as NA cars have a 15-16% loss....>>>> My car stock made around 242 whp and 261 wtq. Now it's at 289whp\337wtq.... It's sad that I'm only getting 38 crank hp from these mods while others are getting 20-30 more crank hp with less mods.....and this kind of power difference will make my car 3\4 of a second slower and a few mph slower than others with less mods with more hp.... All these mods keep throwing CEL codes ( P0107 ) for a bad MAP sensor....aka: Low MAP voltage... someone told me that this can cause power loss but I don't see how, it just regulates air flow into the intake... and I don't see how low voltage ( electrical ) can affect this....
Oh well.... Time to put the puppy back to near stock seeing how (nearly stock) cars are at or over 300 whp and running low 13 at 110 mph...
Heck the guy I'm talking about post is here, he's from Benson Az turbo chevy cobalt). He's had his MAP replaced 4-5 times already... weird stuff....
Get it tuned and lets see...

Hahn also says he's got 322 whp and 361 wtq STD with his PPC... the PPC is a stand alone unit and cannot and will not read othre mods done to the car, so to get the other mods to work he has to have done a custom tune but he denys this... I think Hahn is pulling peoples arms on his PPC 322 whp claim..... even on 93 octane..... 310 STD maybe....
I'm waiting for Hahn to get that thing back to the track... His car, now with drag radials should run a stout 12.6 at 111 mph He ran 12.9 @ 107 with 284 whp.
fyi, he should be able to knock off more than 3 tenths from a 4mph gain.
should be low 12's with 111mph trap speed.
kind of depends on traction and how hard he launches though.

Ahhhh
I'll have spent 3500 bucks total with every single mod EVER done to my car from the day I bought it till the day I run it on April 3rd this year.
I didn't have constant problems with mine. My 1 problem was a idiot tuning mistake by myself.
Try again.

Do the math kid.. it will not add up...
Takes 80 hp (+or- 3-4hp) to cut 3\4 of a sec off your quarter times and add 5mph to the trap speed .. I've raced many cars over the last 20 years and know how the math works....
fyi, that includes my spare set of slicks and rims.
I'm not a kid, he should gain more than 3 tenths from a 4mph gain.
