Need to buy new tires... suggestions?

So I've managed to get set of new SS/TC wheels. No tires on them. I need new tires to install on these and mount them on my SS/SC.

As you already know ss/sc tires are 215/45 and tc's are 225/40.

Should I keep the same tire size as the stock ss/tc tires or should I go 225/45's? Tire size calculators show this:

From 215/45 to 225/45= 1.4% too slow
From 215/45 to 225/40= 2.1% too fast

Wanna know what's suitable for my ss/sc. Or should I go 235/40's!? (0.8% too fast) What would be the pros/cons of having a wider tire?

Lastly, which tires would you recommend? The Balt is a daily driver so don't want tires that wear down in 5K miles but still want them to be summer performance tires for the right price, of course. I know... too many damn questions but any input will be appreciated. Thanks guys!

**EDIT: Went with a set of 235/40's Nitto Invo. Pics on post #30!

235/40's are a good option. They will give you better grip and are close to the stock tire diameter. I second Coles recommendation of the Nitto Invo's also!

Just whatever you do, dont get KDW's. I'm regretting that, as I can't keep traction for **** and there is over 80% tread left.

Oh yeah, and don't go any smaller than 225. You'll regret it.

i loved my nitto invos when i had them in 225/45-18.. werent even comparable to the stock tires.. WAY better traction, much quieter, and the car handled a lot better got them from discounttiredirect for a pretty good price.

^That seems to be the best place to buy them. They ship for free and will price match if you can find them cheaper.

If you go to FRSport.com they have some good deals on SS595's, well they did the last time i checked. Ive used em for gymkhana, they stick good and they dont chip up. Ride noise isnt too bad either. IMO the balt could use wider tires, so i would go with 235 if you can, **** i bought some 265/40/17 from fr sport for about $77 bucks a piece once.

Mmm... Seems like nittos invos are a good route to go. So there will be no fitting problems with 235's on the 18x7.5 rims and the cobalt itself, right?

My first choice would be the 225/40's (SS-TC). but...
Based on your wheel gap comment I would go with the 225/45R18's. Plus, a slightly taller sidewall may give some added ride benefit (with potential sacrifice to handling) - this is tire brand dependent.

I have been told if you are within 3% of the factory OD you should be fine with ABS.

I disagree, I'm running 225/45/18 and im glad i went with the taller tire. Still rides really nice, even with the sportlines. And I have very minimal wheel gap and no rubbing.

So I think I'll go with 235/40's Nitto Invos. Hope don't rub on these. How do these perform for racing, anyone?

i was hoping someone would answer your question about fitment on the stock rims? caz you just asked what i thought about asking and im most likely gonna go with the same set up your talking about above.

235/40 will fit on the stock tc rim fine with no issues? its just slightly wider?

they will fit but they will bulg over a little they will look weird. one of the cobalts around here has 235/40r18s and they bulg over the rim itself. i would just go 225/40r18's they're way cheaper more common size and a good mix of look size and handling.

^From the search I did, it seems 235/40's will fit fine, even lowered, which I'll probably do some time in the future.

go with 225/40's, the low profile will look nice.
the 225/45's will have really tall sidewalls, and wont look as good as the 225/40's
