Drag racing will break your Coablt SS

Is this true?

No clue ... but I went to the drag track for the first time this weekend; and I was paranoid about breaking something. Is this unfounded? Is a Cobalt easily broken at the drag strip?

I know enough to know that wheel-hop is a big frikking no-no.
But what else?

The bottom line is that this car, or any typical OEM car version, can not possibly be built to run at the redline, time after time, and have the clutch dumped etc ...

What are you broken parts related to drag racing? (I hope this is a very sort or empty list!!!)

for your setup you will probably be just fine the car is built pretty well
from what ive heard axels can be an issue when running DR's
clutches seem to be hit or miss when makeing big power some ppl are fine otheres arent
if you get wheel hop the tranny could break (but i think you knew that)
and theres always the possibility or blowing the motor
but what it comes down to is you have to pay to play if your running at the track all the time sooner or later somethings gonna give doesnt matter what car your in everything wears down over time
but if you are just gonna track it a few times a month with your setup id say your just fine

as long as you try to avoid wheel hop as much as possible then you will be fine.

as for parts that break

axles
tranny
mounts
clutch
tire (in a way)
belts (they can pop off)
hubs
the whole car if you hit the way for some reason....but the list is endless really. some are more likely then others.

it's not really paranoia, at least for me. if something breaks that just means I can put something better in its place

I've got close to 100 runs on the strip with DR's and my car hasn't had any problems at all. Wheel hop is non existent with DR's but that is the #1 killer for this car's driveline. My clutch is still strong and still bites hard with no slippage.

I've witnessed my buddy snap an axle right in front while I was in the staging lanes. But he did manage to get 500 HP axles from DriveShaftShop.....sweet.

Outstanding.
What kind of drag radials and wheels do you have?

If you're scarred of breaking something, cars are not the right thing for you.

i have made 35 passes with the balt. THE ONLY THINGS IVE DONE are a 2.8, 60s, and a tune(19 passes on this setup, 16 while stock)

so i'm on stock clutch, stock axels, stock mounts, stock exhaust, stock intake, stock wheels(kuhmo tires), stock EVERYTHING save for the 2.8 60s and a tune. and i have not had any problems. i launch at about 2800rpms at 17psi in the tires(went 13.78@104 on balding street tires and 248whp)

bottom line, if you take care of the car, know how to drive it, know the car itself... and know when to let off, and check things regularly....you won't have any problems.

and remember. if you sense something is wrong, let off. you can always make another pass...
