Well, i'm thinking about giving the SS a MAJOR makeover here soon.....

Please note that this is all just a big maybe. I'm in no financial situation to follow through with these plans at the moment. I am simply looking for feedback and input from everyone. IF these plans were to commence, it would likely take place around early summer.

Ok, heres the deal. I love the way my car looks. I really do. I get compliments on it all the time.......it won multiple COTM's in the past......but......i'm kinda tired/bored with it. We all know the remedy to being tired/bored with a car is either a. trading the car in or b. doing some drastic changes to it.....and since i'm so upside down right now, i'm considering going with option b. So hear me out.

I know this certainly won't be for everyone....but it will most certainly be unique.

First off, I wanted a change with my wheels, but I can't afford to get new ones. My 19"s are almost 2 years old, and having daily driven on them year round on 35 profile tires didn't come without consequences. They have their fare share of war marks from potholes....the clear is actually starting to chip/peel on one of them.......and overall i'd just like to change them up a bit. I mean they certainly don't look bad. From a few feet away they look damn near flawless. But.......i'm thinking about painting them solid flat black....lip and all.....and then having the little polished rivets painted gloss black to give them some contrast. Painting them is a much cheaper alternative to buying new wheels altogether.....and it'll make them a one of a kind wheel....AND they'll look brand new again. Plus flat black wheels are so easy to maintain, lol.

For those of you who haven't said "WTF did Josh do a ton of crack and lose his mind!?!" already after reading the paragraph above.....bear with me here.....but what i'm about to say next might make you think exactly that.

To go hand in hand with the flat black wheels.......i'm thinking about doing something a bit nuts. Nuts.......in the form of having my hood/trunk painted..........in black chalkboard paint. Yes, I said it.....chalkboard paint. A guy I know down in VA Beach did it to his Del Sol.....and for some reason....I just love it. I talked to the guy and he said he'd paint my hood/trunk for me for $100, supplies included....which is a hell of a deal.

And lastly, Chase (Bad05SS) is selling me his SS/SC front lip within the next month, so that'll be going on as well........but don't worry, i'm having that painted white, lol.

Oh and one more thing........if I do this..........the interior will follow accordingly. I'll be painting the interior trim flat black and ditching the stainless TWM shift knob for a flat black TWM shift knob.

So yeah, the SS/SC lip might be the only agreeable thing I said here for many of you.....but I at least wanted to share my idea and get some feedback on what everyone thought.

So....should I dare to be different and go for it, and have undoubtedly one of the most unique Cobalts out there........or should I just retain my subtle and clean.....but aging......look I have now.

Update on page 2.

it sounds like it will actually look pretty bad ass... the chalkboard paint sounds like a cool idea but what is the longevity of that paint on a car?why not just get flat black car paint? and tint your windows at least a little and it will look bitchin

side note if i decide to keep my car i think i would paint my car with a white pearl and do a c/f hood and trunk with black rims and my black accents lol im deff a fan of that look

lol i've been saying i'm gonna tint my windows for years now. I guess if I did this I REALLY would need to just follow through with that huh? I like the chalk board paint over the flat black for the hood/trunk for the simple fact that alot less people do it, and I think the idea of being able to have people write on it at shows/meets and whatnot is really cool. Give me a sec, i'll pull up some pics of the guy who inspired me to do this, and who would be painting my hood/trunk for me if I decided to go through with it/come up with the money to do it.

The chalkboard hood and trunk would be awesome, just make sure to let me sign it at some point. I trust your good taste, so this project will turn out amazing regardless. I especially like your plan for the wheels, just make sure you prep well.

lol true that. But chalkboard paint is a little bit different than flat black paint. But regardless, your car is part of my inspiration.

So far.....mostly positive feedback. Do I have the approval of .net to go ahead with this?

Well, once again thanks to VADriven.com, i'd be getting a hookup. Theres a guy who's opening a new powercoating shop up in Chantilly. I asked for a good wheel painting/powdercoating place in Northern VA, and he PM'd me telling me about the new shop he's opening. He said that since i'd be one of the first "official" customers, he'd give me an introductory price. I'm gonna PM him back and see how much he wants per wheel.

Bump for more opinions.

Yeah but ya gotta figure that there's also steps involved in maintnance that won't have to happen anymore, like waxing it for example.

Bah, this idea is gonna be more expensive than I thought. The actual powercoating of the wheels and the painting of the hood/trunk won't be too expensive. But before I get those things done, i'd want the SS/SC front lip on first.....(hurry up Chase!). Also, for whatever reason, I just don't feel that this would all look right as the car stands. Asides from the lip, I feel that it needs two things. To be lower.......via coilovers.....and tint. The tint is no problem, as I have an inside man who said he'd do my entire car for $80. As for the coilovers....I have $1,200 credit at Motorweb.com in the form of a credit card.....and they sell the K-Sport coilovers for Cobalts on their website......but i'm not sure I wanna add any more debt to my name.

As far as a grand total goes for my proposed makeover, its as followed:

Powercoating the wheels: unknown, awaiting reply from a guy on VADriven.com
Painting the hood/trunk: $100
SS/SC front lip: $20 from my friend Chase, + $50 for paint and installation thanks to yel-low and his friend = $70
Tint via b_faulk75: $80
K-Sport coilovers: $1,051

Grand total (so far) is $1,301 not including the price of powdercoating the wheels. But also keep in mind that the coilovers would be financed rather than paid for in full.

Once I start my new job in April and I start getting consistent money flow once again, i'll see how everything works out for me financially, and decided whether or not to go through with this. I'm just not 100% i'm ready to dump $1,500 into a car with almost 60k on the odometer.....but I really would love to do all of this........so we'll see.

it would really be ashame though to ruin the look that you have going with the car. Maybe do the SS lip kit, and honestly the wheels would look great in white with the polished lip, and a with set of black headlights. Maybe do a RK sport 3pc spoiler and a G5 GT ram air hood.

Eh, i've had this look for years now though. Don't get me wrong.....its a timeless, classic look....but i'm tired of it. I don't mean to sound rude, but i'm def not interested in any of the things you listed. White wheels are def not for me......not really a fan of black headlight housings........I hate hoods that are anything but OEM style on Cobalts.......and I LOVE being wingless and I think a 3-piece spoiler would ruin the rear end of my car. But I mean I thank you for your input and everything.....its just not what i'm after.

My goal is to do something bold and different.........but still keep it subtle and low key. Thats always been the theme with my car and i'm sticking to it. That chalkboard paint/flat black colors sticks to that theme quite well IMO.

I'll agree with you there. Flat or MAYBE a matte carbon fiber hood. What do you think?
