Car is jerking/bucking
Car is jerking/bucking
I have never experienced this before and am going to describe it the best way i know how...
I will be cruising at around 35mph in 3rd or 4th gear, and randomly it will jerk/buck.It does not just do it once but as you try to maintain that speed it does it again and again. To me it feels as if the fuel just stops and it is jerking because of it. I took it the dealer and they said no cel means no solution. I am planning on taking it back but maybe someone could help me so i can just fix it myself rather than wait a week to get my car back.
Any insight at all would be helpful !!

Alright thanks everyone, i think im going to go and tell them to change the fuel filter and fuel pump and see if it fixes it. Its still under warranty and complteley stock so i guess ill see what happens. ill let everyone know happens incase it happens to someone else.
no cel , no nothing, my dad rode with me and best described it as this
if you had a kill switch and could just tap it to immediatly shut off the car for a split millisecond, thats what it feels like.
not a head throwing jerk but a big enough jerk to where the nose of the car dips oh so slightly.
im thinking i might change the fuel filter first and see if it helps cause the guy that had it before me said it sat for about a month with little driving so maybe that will help?????
i just hate dealing with the dealership
Keep the comments coming !!! im at a point that i will try anything !!

sounds like the fuel filter...or could be something running the injectors..or possibly the "fly by wire" throttle having issues but then again if it were the injectors you should get a cel same with the throttle as far as i know..i would do the fuel filter and see what happens..if that doesnt do anything id even pull the spark plugs just to see if any of them look burnt or if one is dirtier than the rest
Are you releasing the gas even the slightest when this happens? If so heres an explanation from Maven:
All modern fuel injected GM vehicles shut off fuel when you let go of the accelerator pedal, so the engine isnt actually "running" when your coasting in gear and above about 1500rpm. SO youve got a coasting car spinning the the trans and engine, if you let off the clutch or gas quickly you get a sudden change in power and the car will "rock"
Be smooth with your throttle and clutch application and you will limit this happening to a great degree. SMOOTH is the key to safe winter driving as well

Ok ,I'm a noob with cars but trying to learn . I am not releasing the gas at all when this happens and have noticed that it happens when the car has under 2300 rpm's or so . And I will clean the maf but I have no manuel or anything so where is that located exactly ? And I really apreciate everyonea help on this . Only had my car a week so not familiar with everything .. But thanks everyone !!
clean out our throttle body, most likely your getting a carbon build up from oil coming through your intake breather line. Im sure your maf is adding to it, get some maf cleaner for it. I would look at your plugs too as well and lower the gap on them as well.
before I traded mine in for the Z it did the same thing. well similar at least, but when it would jerk, I could watch the boost gauge, and everytime it jerked my boost gauge pegged out. Mine was pretty violent. Everytime it would surge it would bark the tires. Idk wtf was up with that.
MAF sensor inquiry
1 - The tranny will randomly, when cold (<60F, maybe 70F) shift a bit hard and will take an off/on with the ignition to correct when this happens. Usually the car will behave properly following this if sufficiently warmed. The ISS code can be very intermittent when cold and as mentioned, usually a cycle in the ignition can reset the system and the vehicle operates normally afterwards. Reading the TCM's ISS value shows it remains at zero until ignition reset (starts reporting when sufficiently warmed).
2 - Related to your issue however: *Only* in the winter (and the car can be shifting properly for a very long time prior), the vehicle will do exactly as you mention and I notice ONLY seems to happen when flurries start to blow around. It sounds ridiculous - I don't know what it is - it would very VERY cold - colder than 0F on a clear or cloudy day and the car will not do this. This has been the behavior ever since we got the car and it is scary when it happens like someone cut the power to the car for 1/2 second. How does the car have even the slightest clue that some flurries are falling? Is it must some relation to a poor MAP backup value due to the MAF suddenly malfunctioning (again, no CEL code when this happens). I have cleared the MAF contacts a few years ago due to TCC lockup issues (RPM fluctuations) years ago, which fixed that issue (I actually had to take pliers and scrape the pins it seems, spraying it alone was not enough).
I am very interested in issue #2 as this happens ONLY in the winter months and seems to ONLY be affected during snowfalls. If anyone has input on #1 that would be a bonus. We have a 2.2L.
Thanks again
