For people with the RPD, when your headlights come on does the display dim?

I'm just wondering when I get the car do i have to play with the contrast... every morning and night?

I dont know about the RPD but your dash lights dim when your headlights come at least mine do so i would imagine the RPD does the same thing it probably so it doesnt blind you in the dark and you can see out your window with no problems

I wish I could tell you but they refuse to put the RPD's in the sedans.

Yes, the RPD dims. When the interior lights dim, the RPD will too. If you turn your autoheadlights off for whatever reason though, then the interior lights/displays (radio and DIC) will automatically go to daytime mode, including the RPD (they'll brighten up). Twisting the interior light adjustment knob will also adjust the RPD as well. Contrast for the RPD is selectable within the RPD options menu.

On a separate but related note: If you turn your autoheadlights off, but then turn your fog lights on, then your running lights and tail lights will all come on and your interior lights/displays (as well as the RPD) will resume their automatic dimming functionality. I love cruising in that mode in the morning, evening, or when it's cloudy outside.

Wait. What?

Explain that again, I have no clue what you mean.

You can turn your headlights off manually by twisting the end of the turn indicator bar to the off position. When you do that, your daytime running lights/autoheadlights will turn off. The car will then keep it's headlights/taillights off no matter how dark it is outside. This also puts the interior lights/displays into their bright, daytime modes.

Now in many places, it's illegal for people to have foglights on without their running lights on too, so when you turn your foglights on, your running lights will come on too. This will happen even if you have your lights turned off manually (through the blinker knob). I like that look a lot in the mornings, evenings, and when it's cloudy outside because it looks good in my opinion, when there's a bit of light outside but not so dark that you'll need your headlights.

Also, when you turn your foglights on, you will also make the interior lights/displays revert back to their normal daylight-bright and nighttime-dim modes as if you had your autoheadlight system on.

Hope that helps clear things up a bit.

guess this is a good place to post this question..

I have an RPD and have no idea what all i can do with it. I know by tuning the knob i can change what it displays, and push it in i can only display my gear.

is there any settings i can change on the actual unit itself? if so what? .. and how?

Oh man, consult your owners manual. You can cycle through the gauges by simply turning the knob left and right. The display also shows launch mode, traction and launch control with a little icon that has the car on and wind marks behind it.

You can change the color, appearance, and shift times for the shift indicator as well on the settings screen.

If you press in the knob when you have a gauge on it will highlight field "B", you then turn the knob left or right and it can display gear indicator, tire pressure, barometer/outside air temp/battery voltage or Fuel pressure psi/coolant temp/air inlet temp (that's the one that I keep it on most of the time).

Hope that helps!

thats the thing, i only had a few minutes to play with it, and when i press in the knob it just goes away. I'm trying to figure out if i need to hold in the knob or what.

thanks for you help! trying to find info on this anywhere sucks. even google searches.

No problem man, you simply just press it in once and it will highlight field B (it may be hard to see), but once you press it in, turn it left and right and you will see the different specs it will show you.

Finding info on the RPD is a pain. The only RPD that I saw before I purchased it was on youtube with some dude playing around with it. Even though I didn't see it in person, I had to have it!

Also, you can turn the knob until you get to the options menu and change the gauge color, shift light settings (on RPD only, not the dash one), contrast, which side the information's on, etc.

When you're at the speed/lateral-g display, if you push and hold the button, it will reset the max lateral-g recorded since you started the car. Do that if you want to reset it after you've already started the car. It will also do this when you turn off the car too. This reset comes in handy when you started it in another screen and change to that screen... I sometimes have erroneous reading on the lateral-g (usually like 0.3-something to the right only for some reason), so I just reset it and it's good to go after that.

i noticed you have pretty much the same car as me.. (i have high rise spoiler, LSD, sunroof, and RPD) except i don't have any aftermarket parts yet.. might look for some in the future first things first.. window TINT!

I want to know where the RPD's programming is located, because I would love to tweak it. Then you could put what you wanted on each page... such as outside temp next to inlet temp and coolant temp or something.

Well, I'm sure its all in the RPD and just pulling its data off the GMLAN/CAN BUS. I keep meaning to take mine apart to see if any hacking is possible, ... but just havent had the time.

I'd also love to add more parameters too, namely the temp at the IAT right before the throttle body.

Yeah, I've been wondering, is that inlet temp it shows on there the IAT1 or IAT2? Where's it getting that temp from?
