noob to rims... lightweight options.

So I'm looking into some weight reduction mods for an 06 SS. The first things I'm going to start with is hood, trunk and rims. This is the first time I have ever looked into buying new rims. Are there any brands that are known to be lighter or do you mainly just look at what the rim is made of? When i just do a normal search for different companies I dont find many of them that actually give a weight on there rims. When you do a specific search for lightweight rims you get a lot of Magnesium/CF stuff that are like a G a piece. Anyone suggest any brands that make some solid, lightweight rims for the balts?

Thanks in advance. Sorry for such a lame question...

OZ. Tirerack.com carries them. You will be looking at $300-$400/wheel though.

I need some 17 inch wheels for my TC. Can anybody give me the DEFINITIVE answer to the question, will the 17 inch wheels from a 07 SC work on the TC. PLEASE! No guesses or I thinks. I'm about ready to make a deal but I need to know for sure. Thanks.

I am in the process of working with a few vendors to see if there is a 17" rim that fits over the Brembos. The big problem is in the backspacing and offset. I am still atempting to figure out what offset would work the best (mainly because I am going to try cram 255's on an 8" rim). IF you find something that will clear the Brembos, let me know.

I just ordered a set of lightweight mags today! I ordered KONIG Daylite's. The black ones with the yellow lip. A 17" is only 14lbs. Not expensive either, 200$ CAD a piece

Also, they usually won't specify the weight unless it is a lightweight rim. Id say the average 17" rim is 19-22 lbs. I may be wrong tho...

Hope this helps!

They are 18" rims. 17" is the mon that can fit over the ridiculous Brembos, and even most 17's won't fit.

Yeah, this will be for a track setup. Looking to fit 255's on a 17x8... should let me hit corners pretty hard.

I know the offset is like 41mm. Im not sure about back space. I want 17s primarily because there is a much better selection of tires for 17s over 18s. 17s are also considerably lighter.

Yeah, I think to run the tires I want, I will have to have a minimum of 35mm offset, and even then I am unsure if it will fit. The backspacing is where the real concern is if I am understanding it correctly. I need to pop off a stock wheel and figure out how much backspacing we have stock.

Front wheel drive does not use a "backspacing" measurement. They use only "offset". I know, I know! They are basically the same measurement but I think they do it that way to differentiate between FWD wheels and RWD wheels. But there are other dimensions to be concerned with like where the inside edges of the spokes fall with relationship to the hub surface. That would determine brake clearance as much as wheel diameter. Even the tire and wheel stores want to test fit wheels on the TC. Wheels are a big problem with this car. There are wheels out there that fit if all you want is bling. If you want true hipo you have to look and try, try try.

Oh dang, when i said backspacing I was thinking of the clearance from the spokes to the brakes. But yes, I wish i could find a place to let me try some rims on.

See my new thread in this section!! 17x7 (you'll have to settle for 245/40 on a 7") +40 offset, a few mm's worth of spacer and they'll clear for the turo cars, around $800 for a set of 4, under 15 lbs each, 5 colors available. The OZ's are awesome and 8" wide, but almost twice the price...
