View Full Version : CIA Emergency
Clear Image (Beth) 04-17-2009, 02:51 PM Just so you all know, Dan's computer crashed for good two nites ago. Like finshed, caput, nada.
Dan lost EVERYTHING; emails, pictures, files, you name it it's gone. Thankfully my computer had a backup of our invoice program, but only from the 27th of March, so I lost ALL our data since the 27th of March. If you've ordered something in the last 3 weeks, I don't have anything in my system on you anymore. I've still got hard copies of invoices printed, but those don't have phone numbers or email address. If I made you a quote nad saved it (I don't usually print those) then thats gone too.
So shoot me and email or PM with all your contact information. Also, if you've emailed Dan, he lost it all. He can't even access his email right now, so you'll need to call or pm me.
Right now Yelloeyes is sitting at Dan's desk trying to down load the printer driver while Dan's in the shop. So say thanks to him for helping so Dan can be in the shop. And I'll keep you posted. This is a set back that sucks, but thank goodness all hope is not lost, it could have been a lot worse.
Thank you for your patience, we should be all good to go shortly, it's just another set back.
REIGN SS 04-17-2009, 02:55 PM RAID 1 FTW..
Sorry to hear about your computer failure, assuming the HDD isn't what crashed the data could still be recovered
SedanMan08 04-17-2009, 02:55 PM That Sucks. Glad you guys are doin okay.. somewhat.
_UnLiMiTeD_ 04-17-2009, 02:58 PM i was gunna say, take the Hard drive to a computer shop, theres a chance they could still recover the data from it.
widowedeight 04-17-2009, 03:00 PM you can always just mail me the dp today :) i don't even need the tracing number.... pm'ed you btw :)

It was a physical hard drive failure. Something broke, and it would cost a lotttaaa money to fix it. We don't think it's worth it.
Johnboy12358 04-17-2009, 04:32 PM Yeah, RAID1 would have helped avoid that. Or you could grab a cheapish "home server" and run file backups every night.
_UnLiMiTeD_ 04-17-2009, 04:34 PM little thing my dad learned when fixing harddrives is if it starts making noise and starts failing on you, Turn the pc off right away and put the hard drive in the freezer for awhile. You then have one shot to plug it in and back up all the files to another hard drive. Not a garuntee it will work but he has done it quite a few times with good success.
Just something i thought i would share in case this ever happens to u again.
Clear Image (Beth) 04-17-2009, 05:33 PM Thanks for all your tips guys! We appreciate it. Yeah, we tried the freezer thing, nada. But we did get harddrives and are backing everything up lol. It's just we lost those 3 weeks and all Dans stuff. Also, if any of you PAID for anything or made any payment of anytime since March 27th, that will not be recorded either so if you could just send me your pay date I'll fix it. I'll be working on getting our system updated by hand but won't get down to it until next week.
_UnLiMiTeD_ 04-17-2009, 07:03 PM yea the freezer thing only works while its failing but not after its completely failed. They get pretty loud before they fail and if u can shut them down before they die completely, then freeze them, u can usually get them running long enough to back the stuff up onto another drive.
Something for next time, thats all
YelloEye 04-18-2009, 03:21 PM Well at least we got the printer working again, that thing was a PITA....me thinks it might be time for a newer model. The hard drive thing sucks though, hope you guys can get all your info back so Dan can stop running around trying to do a million things at once.
On a side note thanks to all at CIA for my cat back, it was great to finally meet you all and associate names with faces. The outcome is far better than I was hoping and my butt dyno says it increased power (not very accurate I know) but even if it didn't, the thing sounds great and looks 10x better than what was under there. Thanks again Hope to do more business with you in the future.:cssNET:
Cuda009 04-18-2009, 03:39 PM Does it just not boot or does the drive not spin up anymore?
Rodimus_Prime 04-18-2009, 06:52 PM from the title i thought something else lol
REIGN SS 04-19-2009, 12:34 AM from the title i thought something else lol
haha, whole reason I came into this thread to begin with
Clear Image (Beth) 04-21-2009, 06:42 PM yeah, so it turns out it was not a physical failure but viruses. Who'd a thunk. Anywho, so we have someone who thinks they can recover the data, not sure tho, b/c it's all riddled w/ viruses so it's currently at the tech guys place getting disected.
So in the meantime (we find out this afternoon) we can't print labels but we are catching up, and the boys are working to get stuff boxed up so as soon as we are good to go I'll be best friends w/ the UPS label maker lol.
395 plus 05-01-2009, 05:38 PM Sounds like my Dads computer after my brother-in-law decided to download music from LImewire A total of 5 different Viruses were on it. Had to back up what we could and reload operating Sytem to straighten things out. Now I gave him second computer I repaired so everyone that come over can use and abuse that on instead. The one thing you can never forget about computers (BACK UP THE DATA because data is money)
Thanks for making great products and good prices. Do you have or can you make a DP to replace the the 2.2l automatic DP to bolt to factory header and your 2.5" catback? Say a 2.5" stainless DP
crypticscifer 05-01-2009, 05:45 PM Data Recovery (http://www.ontrackdatarecovery.com/0707_data-recovery-service-ps/?psearch=google)
If it was infected with a virus and just cant boot you can put 3 files (NTLDR, NTDETECT.COM, and BOOT.INI) on a usb thumb drive and boot windows and back up your data.... but it looks like you have all the help you need. If worst case PM me, I have forensic tools I can get anything (mostly) back.
But I will need a super discount!!!!!!!! Maybe on some charge piping for the SS/TC?
Omnigear 05-01-2009, 05:46 PM raid 5
avg anti virus
and a flash stick with encryption
for redundancy =)
crypticscifer 05-01-2009, 05:50 PM You guys are funny, yeah great RAID, have you even considered the platform?
and a flash stick with encryption
for redundancy =)
Oh please explain how encryption makes it redundant?????? Or if you meant encrypt the USB stick and have it for redundancy then fine, but be carefull that it doesn't require the TPM..
Clear Image (Beth) 05-01-2009, 06:51 PM Yeah, thank goodness we now know how to make sure this doesn't happen again! U guys have been awesome thank you for all your help!
