Are Tires covered on warranty to an extent?

i only have 2400 miles on my car and already the front tires are way more warn then they should be and no i dont do burnouts. the back tires are still of coarse like new, and i got the car at 173miles. im thinking that before i got it whoever was test driving it burned them up quite a bit. because my pirelli p6's on my G5GT lasted 13000 and i did plenty of burnouts learning how to drive it cuz it was my first stick car. anyone else have the same problem? im taking it in on monday and they said theyl look at it and possibly just throw me 2 new tires.

I don't have a definite answer.

I would guess no. Even if technically they were, I'd still say no because in most cases you can't prove to them that any of it was not YOUR fault.

Just general wear... they don't know that you haven't been doing burnouts and you can't prove it. Uneven wear? Again, they could just say you bumped a curb or something and the tires wore because of your neglect to have the alignment checked.

In almost any case they can pin it on you as abuse or neglect. That's why I say even if they are, you might as well just say they are not.

True dat. I wouldn't count on it but it's always worth a shot. If they don't cover it then take yer car to Conrads or somewhere because I had similar issues and Conrads gave me 2 tires for the price of one for 250 and the dealer wanted 288 a piece!!

Bottom line is the stock Contis, in my high opinion ..SUCK. I got 8800 on mine, with very light burnouts, and the fronts are GONE, just put the backs on. Getting new ones in a month or so. There has gotta be better tires out there. These contis, even on dry conditions, just seemed inadequate for the SS/TC.

Me is thinking Bridgestone Protenza series. Whats the new Protenza crack out these days?

Tires are covered by the tire manufacturers warranty. Stay off the brakes and they'll last a lot longer. If you leave black lines at every light they won't last very long either. Your front tires do more than 75% of the stopping. Braking will eat up brakes faster than anything. My tires have more than 7000 miles on them and show very little wear. I expect at least 15000 on them. I DO play with the ricers a little but use the brakes ONLY when I want to STOP!! And even then I use them judicially. Plan ahead and brake accordingly. Anticipating a traffic light can cut your braking in half. Running full bore to the light then standing on the brakes? Oh well! Being a retired truck driver helps.

tires are considered "wear items" you arent gonna get **** from the dealer...best choice would be contact continental directly and tell them the tires were prematurely worn...but since they dont have a mileage rating on them and are considered "summer only tires" they're gonna tell u to blow them and they wont replace them...i work at an automotive store n deal with this **** on a daily basis lol...tire companies = teh ghey

A good dealer will cover the tires for 1 year / 12k, but only for manufacturer defects. I don't know exactly how far worn your tires are, but it could be hard to prove. If you had bubbles or bumps in the sidewall or something though, that would likely be warrantied.

You're not going to get tires replaced on a performance vehicle under warranty.

I wouldnt think so, but who knows. I know when I had my car for like 2-3 weeks, some freaking how, some way I got a nail in the damn passenger rear tire. They pulled it out and plugged the tire for free, but said if they couldnt fix it, it would run me about $275 or something like that for new tires. That is ridiculous, especially when you can get some nice BFG's or go all out and get some damn MT's.

If it was an alignment problem it would be on the deal seeing as you are not required to an alignment for 0 - 2700 miles. If they try to argue don't budge. I talked the dealership in Colerain into fixing my service airbag light for free and i have no warranty.

Do people know how to rotate tires anymore? I rotate mine every 3k miles regardless of how hard I have been driving it within that 3k miles. I have 7k on mine, and like 65% tread left. And I drive... well... harder than most of you can imagine. You also must remember, that not only do these tires blow, they are only a 280 tread rating. They are pretty dang soft. Also, the more power a car puts down, the more it will eat the tires up. Regardless of doing a burnout or not, even if you get grip, it wears the tires. Even if you don't feel it, your tires are constantly 'slipping'. This wears on the tires. Crank up the boost, and they will wear even faster... put them on a SS/sc, they will probably last longer.

If your tires had 2000 miles on them and a bubble appeared in the sidewall, thats different then you roasting the rubber off them.

hmmm thats gonna be tough to get the dealership to do anything about, its a wear a tear part of the car, and if there isn't any clear defect the dealership will probably just says its looks like you have been abusing them and ask if you would like the pay for a new set

The dealer should be able to look at the wear pattern and be able to tell if there's an alignment issue. If you bought a car with a decent amount of miles it would have been your responsibility to inspect everything and make sure the tires were still good and it hadn't been taken out and abused constantly. With that said tires are not covered by the auto manufacturer and instead are one part that falls under the tire manufacturer's warranty. In any case if you have a good dealer they might try to help you out but don't get too upset at them if they don't. Best bet is to play it calm and act mature and see what they say.

Me is thinking Bridgestone Protenza series. Whats the new Protenza crack out these days?
I've had three cars now that I've bought new come with these Continental family tires; two SVT Focus with the original ContiSportContact and the Cobalt with the ContiSportContact 2. The original Contis were an okay tire but got really loud near the end of their service life. My first Focus burned through a set in about 20k miles but I'm pretty sure there were some suspension issues with that car. My second Focus got just under 40k miles with good rotation and my Cobalt made it to just under 28k miles with the front tires nearly gone (probably would have done 30-35k with a little better rotation and not having most of the track days wear that one set).

A lot of people bash the Contis and if you read reviews at places like the Tire Rack they get hit a lot. That seems to be the case with nearly any factory tire. To me the ContiSportContact 2 has provided a decent service life, good grip that is very predictable, they haven't got louder with age, and they do great in the rain and even okay in some unexpected light snow here in the desert last winter.

There are definitely "better" tires out there but you have to define better. Are you willing to give up some of the wet weather performance the Contis have generally done well at? How about cost and how much you want to pay? Do you want a near R-spec compound racing slick or all weather performance and so on.

These particular Contis have been used on a lot of high dollar cars like Porsche, Mercedes AMG models, and even the BMW M3 and M5. I wouldn't say they're inadequate on the SS Turbo, but instead that we're pushing the limits of how much power a front drive car can be expected to handle and tires can only do so much. The next set of tires on mine will be the Direzza Sport Z1 Star Spec as they're about as close to R-compound tire as you'll find. I imagine grip and traction will be slightly improved, but I also understand I'll be paying for it in service life.

Sitting at 21,000 right now. About to do probably one last rotation. Fronts are almost down to the wear indicators. I think the conti 2's have a 300 wear rating. I'll be replacing them with the bridgestone RE960AS.

BTW, hitting on/off ramps hard will wear these tires down pretty quickly too...
