View Full Version : ZZP 2.4 Turbo Cobalt First Track Visit
Matt M 04-19-2009, 04:10 PM We took our '06 2.4 turbo Cobalt to US131 Motorsports Park on Saturday to get in some runs down the 1/4 mile. Since we had a dyno tune scheduled in the morning, we couldn't leave for the track until the later part of the test/tune session. Unfortunately the track was also completely packed and we only ended up with enough time for 2 runs.
Configuration was our intercooled S256 (base turbo) at 10-11psi, ZZP exhaust, street tires.
This is the first time we ever raced this car, and the track was pretty greasy for the street tires, so the sixty foots weren't that good.
First pass- 2.41 sixty foot, 13.75 @ 105.9 mph.
Second pass- 2.24 sixty foot, 13.05 @ 106.9 mph.
We didn't get a log for the first pass, but we did log the second pass and found that we could have been a lot more aggressive with the AFR and timing. With a dyno tune and a 2.1 sixty foot, we expect to hit 12.7-12.8 at 110mph at 11psi. After that, we will switch the tires out for some drag radials and turn the boost up a little more.:)
Maxim_X 04-19-2009, 04:12 PM Sounds good. What are you seeing around 250-260 whp right now?
victoryss 04-19-2009, 04:13 PM awesome times. look forward to seeing future times
Matt M 04-19-2009, 04:39 PM Sounds good. What are you seeing around 250-260 whp right now?
At this boost level, we should be able to hit 300whp, but the conservative tune we are running is probably closer to 275-280.

Gunney_07 04-19-2009, 10:51 PM how much do you have invested in your curent configuration?
Matt M 04-19-2009, 11:15 PM how much do you have invested in your curent configuration?
It would run about $2700 for the turbo kit in this configuration. Catback would be separate.
Gunney_07 04-19-2009, 11:34 PM ^---thanx for the info not a bad price for the numbers
Turbo06Sedan 04-20-2009, 07:45 AM Price is cheap. Times are awesome. Congrats
freakta 04-20-2009, 08:18 AM nice job
wesg631 04-20-2009, 12:43 PM what do you think your stage three kit would run with the upgraded turbo im thinking thats the bosst route i want to go
Matt M 04-20-2009, 12:54 PM what do you think your stage three kit would run with the upgraded turbo im thinking thats the bosst route i want to goThe upgraded turbo probably wouldn't help much at 10psi. Maybe a few HP at best, but past 300whp, it will start to show nice gains over the standard turbo.

wesg631 04-20-2009, 01:18 PM is the tune you are running a safe tune for dd or is it more of an aggersive one
Projekt 04-20-2009, 01:24 PM this is excelent to hear.
Matt M 04-20-2009, 01:42 PM is the tune you are running a safe tune for dd or is it more of an aggersive one
It's a safe tune. This car was back to NA for a few weeks for testing other parts. The turbo went back on late last week and we used our base file instead of the dyno tune. Shifts could be higher, more timing advance could be run, and it could be leaned out a few tenths.
Projekt 04-20-2009, 01:44 PM if i make a trip down from canada to buy this kit from you guys...can you give me a place to stay for a few days

samsumthing 04-20-2009, 08:21 PM where are you guys located
they're in grand rapids, mi.
celicacobalt 04-21-2009, 12:31 AM 13.0 is great! I wish I could find someone to tune my car that knew what they were doing so I could get some better times. 13.4 is my best but I know the car has more in it if I could get it running correctly.
Shibito 04-21-2009, 11:38 AM Can you guys only use HPtuners to tune? I want the stage 3 kit sooooo bad but HP Tuners hasn't unlocked the 08 2.4L yet.

are those the lnf turbo wheels u have on?Yes, you are correct.
samsumthing 04-22-2009, 06:09 PM why do the prices seem increase like every month?
CinciSS07 04-22-2009, 06:10 PM edit: read the second page and answered my own question. Wish i could afford this haha
Matt M 04-25-2009, 08:17 PM I took this car back to the track to shoot for 12s today, but it turned out to be a waste of time. Since it was raining when the track opened, racing started 2 hours late. We had 2 or 3 rain delays and the track was never very good. I spun bad and ruined one pass. Then I got a 13.1 at 107+ at 9psi. I turned it up to go after 12s, but it started pouring this time and everyone left. All in all, it wasn't a very good day at the track.:(

It's still $2000 for the base kit which is the price we advertised about 3 months ago in the first video. Early customers got even better deals.
WhiteSSBalt 04-25-2009, 08:18 PM Very nice.

DFZ24 04-27-2009, 12:30 AM does anyone knows how much is for the turbo kit from hahn???
i wanted to boost mine, at the beginning i was thinking using the lsj m62 sc but there was too many parts that i have too look for lol (for me i think sc is better for the car :D and looks better well thats me), so im thinking going with turbo but not much psi because i dont want to destroy the engine too quick lol
and can i run the turbo without a change of exhaust???
Jimmys2007CobaltSS/C 04-27-2009, 03:16 PM sweet wish you guys were out last year when I had my 2.4 :( but i went cheap and s/c it lol
Matt M 05-01-2009, 12:07 AM We switched to the upgraded turbo and turned up the boost a bit. We're expecting mid 12s next time out.:)
