Newbie wants to add F/I

Hi

I'm a newbie, I dont know a lot about F/I. Thats why I'm here to ask you guys.

I'm thinking of just adding nitrous, but like what I said I don’t a lot about it. I read that for the 2.2 anything below 75 shot is safe, but how do I know how many shot I sprayed?

Is this all I need?
Dynotune Wet Nitrous Kit (P/N - 604) -
Dynotune Window Switch (P/N - 711)
Dynotune Bottle Warmer (P/N - 100)
Dynotune Remote Mounted Pressure Gauge (P/N - 007)
NGK LTR6IX-11 (P/N - 6509)
Dynotune Nitrous Purge Kit (P/N - 301
Dynotune Blowdown Tube (P/N - 909)
Dynotune Bottle Opener (P/N - 400)

I’m also considering going turbo, but I’m not sure how to go about. I read most turbo builds and it seem that there all custom. Can I just buy the Garrett Turbo Alpha Kit (P/N 766621-1), or will I need others things.

Lastly, Supercharger. I read most Supercharger builds and there also custom. That’s my problem I don’t know the parts that I need to install a Supercharger.

I need your advice which route should I take? I guess the easiest would be nitrous.

My main goal is to gain the experience in installing turbo, supercharger and nitrous, also get up to 200hp. So trading my car for an SS is not an option.

Sorry for being a newbie, I tried to read and learn as much as I can before I do something.

Car Info
Year: 2006
Make: Chevy
Model: Cobalt
Engine: 2.2 L L61
Body style: Coupe

Sorry for being a newbie :P

good job with the searching. Supercharging might be more worth it. Turbo is full of headaches. "NAWS" will force you to keep filling up the bottle.

You can go S/C in 2, 3 days tops. With a lot of screwing around i hear.

ok i suggest not to do NOS because latley alot of people on this sight have "sprayed" there cars and they are having some serious problems with BENT SPARK PLUGS which is never good...i recommend to go turbo and run about 5 to 6 lbs of boost and ull be just over 200HP. just bare down get all the parts and u can easliy knock it out in a long weekend...Fri Sat Sun and ull be set

but think of the costs man^

turbo is EXPENSIVE. due to the fact that you need the actual compressor, turbo manifold, piping. custom intake, intercooler, and in some applications its a good idea to get a welded intake manifold.

supercharging is so much cheaper. as most of the stuff can be bought off users on here that are going turbo with their LSJ's

thats just my opinion.

The Garrett Alpha Turbo kit only works with Manual Transmission 05 and 06 cobalts.
Won't work with auto so you would have to get the Garrett GT Tuner Turbo kit (P/N 766621-2) and tuning via Trifecta Performance since they are the only ones who can tune the 06 ECM

first off its not "NOS" its Nitrous Oxide, and the "A LOT" that you're refering to is ONE guy who had issues, that hardly qualifies at "a lot".

Turboing or S/C'ing is barely safer than Nitrous nothings safe its not if its when. ive done both now, and while i like my S/C better, nitrous is a good place to start for some that cant take on huge projects or dont have the means of tuning. A good wet kit with a 50 or 75 shot will be great for someone who wants a bit of fun here and there but not the huge commitment.

We even had one guy run 20+ bottles on 90 shot on his 2.2 with no issues (no condoning that, just stating)

To the OP: pm me if you have any questions i am happy to help, (even have a nitrous kit if ur interested)

please try and get your **** straight before posting things that are not fully truthful scaring someone away from something that is fun and a good stepping stone.

^ Thanks you your advice. I'm very interested on supercharging my car now. Also thanks to Hunter's How to Install M62 on 2.2l Cobalt.

How much roughly am I going to spend 2-3k?

If you decide to turbo it you can do it with used parts, raw pipe, a spare header and a welder for under $500(not with tune). Find some nissan guys and get a used T-25 or t-28, the exhaust manifold and DP(off a sr20et/sr20det, for the flanges), weld a custom header together like FacelessKhaos did, make a manual boost controller(few plumbing parts and a screw), get a boost guage out of a srt4(bout $10 each) and some vaccum lines(bout $1/foot at Advanced Auto), adjustable wastegate, weld a custom DP from your existing one or a ss.sc DP, bolt it up, run intake pipes and oil lines... tune. Youre done. Upgrade with a FMIC, injectors, electronic boost controller. Base setup should net you about 200 FWHP upgraded should be around 240. Dont boost more than about 12 psi on that tiny turbo and you will be happy. Very quick spool up(2200) and holds boost til 6k. Remember intake(boost) pressure is not only dependant on how high you adjust your wastegate but on the size turbo, 5 psi on a GT35R is a lot more air flow than 5 PSI on a T-25.

you're welcome lol
since the parts are being bought from other members, total cost can range anywhere from $1,000 to $2,500 for everything. Everything, however, is also a relative term. There are "unnecessary" mods like a wideband that are just highly recommended but not needed for the supercharger to work correctly. It cost me about $1,900 for everything I run, including interceptors and wideband, but the SC parts alone only ran me $1,100

For your power goals, I'd go SC. It's the most reliable.

yikes nitrous is a touchy subject...if i had the OPTION i would go turbo but SC is just a good but i would just stay away from spray cuz a kit ranges from $500 to $1000 and you fill that bottle then it just adds up, then if you get a turbo kit together from both used parts and new parts you will easily get one together for around $1500 or hey you could get lucky and get one together for cheaper. im not saying run huge amounts of lbs of boost but just get a small turbo and run 6 lbs and ull be more consistant than spray because of the whole filling up the bottle issue...if i had the op to SC i would but at the time i bought all of my turbo stuff i didnt. but just tryin to help. and since i had the 2.4 mani i decided that i didnt want it to go to waste and SC so i am goin turbo thats my .02

oh and you shouldnt snap on somebody just cuz you want to sell ur own wet kit haha im just tryin to help buddy

For the LSJ Throttle Body why do we need to drill holes and where do we drill it? Is there an aftermarket TB?

OK, I'm going to start collecting parts now for the supercharger. It's sucks all my part is going to be shipped in my shipping address in States

Does anyone have SC and nitrous at the same time? I mean for the 2.2s.

you dont drill holes in the LSJ TB. You drill holes in the stock TB, or you rewire the LSJ TB

What tuning did you do for your car when you had your S/C installed?
