235/40/18's are as big as I would go. If you are lowered, 245's will rub on the back for sure. Some people have issues with 235's on the back.

i just want them on the front they are dr.

245/40/18's will be fine if you only plan to use them on the front at the drag strip. They may rub slightly when you turn though. You should use an 8" or 8.5" wide wheel with them though. 7.5" minimum.

Man, you guys always seem to know wtf you're talking about. I am running Nitto 555's 245/40/18 on my stock sc rims. No issues and traction is great. Fucking great.

No rubbing

My 225/35 18's Are rubbing like crazy in the back. as soon as i put 2 passengers in my car the right rear rubbed the paint off and the tires is starting to shave off. Should the tire place pay to paint my wheel well. I bought the tire insurance. They better put a shorter tire on without question!

Okay so the stock wheel for an SS/SC is 18x7 correct and not 18x7.5.....now I am running 225/45/18 now without issues on my stock wheels. Can I get away with running 235/40/18 on the stock rims and what is the size of the wheels?

I'm confuzzled. What's wrong with stock tires? Why change?

No flaming; it's an honest question.

Wrong as in size or tire brand/model?

When you wider with a lower profile you get a larger contact patch and then the lower profile gives less flex while cornering.

With the brand the Pirelli's are nice riding and give gradually but there are much better tires on the market for spirited and track driving.

well when you run out of tread ware. ppl likely upgrade their tire size. like widening them so it covers more surface area. or when they upgrade their rims.

Hm... never really understood why you'd want to change the nice stock tires & rims for our cars. They seem pretty nice to me... guess I'm not too picky

215s are teh small

The SS/NA's came with 205s:eek:

225 is the smallest size I have ran in a few years...with a larger tire you can brake better, steer better, take off better, etc.

Only negative thing from larger tires I can think of is they are more prone to hydroplaning...so get a tire that kicks ass in the rain IF you are worried about it

That's a nice size, I ran that size on the stock wheels with Goodyear Eagle F1 All Season's. Not a bad tire, it is not going to last as long treadwise as I had hoped, but the next tire is going to be 235/40/18 or 225/40/18 if I can get some questions answered....

i'd recommend 225/40's, the profile nd overall tire height is closer to stock. the 45 series tires will look ginormous on there.

No reason to run a 45 series tire in this situation unless you want more sidewall for whatever reason

On the ss/sc, 225/45 is actually closer to stock circumference than a 225/40, although we're talking 1% big vs 2% small. Neither is a major difference. I personally went with 225/45 since they were about 40 bucks per tire cheaper than 215/45. They didn't look big at all. You're talking a grand total of 9mm more diameter than the stock tire. Plus, given the choice, I would rather have slightly longer gears to shorter. To each their own, though.

the difference in sidewall height in the 40 and 45 series 225 tires is something like 2.5mm

i dunnno, all the 225 40's ive seen look like truck tires next to my 225/40's

iv ran 235/45 and im currently running 245/40s on the stock SC wheels, 245 is as large as i would go on a 7" rim, the only reson im running 245s is becasue they were cheaper than 235/40.

WickedSS2005

wider tire has a broader contact surface for traction. Also, a higher sidewall is a little more comfortable

CobaltSSilver
05-16-2009, 12:49 AM
Would we want to try a 245/35 tire instead to get the sidewall height down?
