Did you see any improvements? Did you use just engine oil or did you switch the whole car? Did you first put in a 50/50 mix?

ExXxXpensive.. Not worth it IMO

 

I use it in the engine and tranny, and it makes the tranny shift smoother. Engine i can go 7k mile b4 a change.

 

i heard of cases of gaining hp? is that true?

 

I run Mobil 10w30 and I have no problems Royal purple is good though but... and Mobil and Royal are really the only good synthetics imo the others are quite ashy in a way!

I recently switched to Royal Purple just b/c i'm starting to fall into that "high mileage" category (61,000 on it currently), so I wanted to take every precaution possible to ensure the car holds up. Yeah it was pricey, but i'm not one to skimp on maintenance. Switching to Royal Purple was just the tip of the iceberg for my 60k maintenance.

I can't really say I "felt" a difference, but it does offer peace of mind, and it also has integrated cooling agents in it that keep the oil temps down, which is always a good thing.

Is it worth it? Who knows. But alot of people swear by it, and its supposedly the best oil out there, so I figured that since my car is getting kinda old these days, I might as well step it up on my maintenance.

I also mixed in a can of 4-cyl formula Restore with my last oil change.

 

ever since my 2nd oil change i have used royal and like it. have not had anyproblems or anything with it

Guy that owned my car before me had Mobil 1, and that's what I've been running. Car has about 80k on it. No problems, and not really planning on switching either.

Because I push my motor and its better for a motor unless you run it in cold weather but I dont its my summer car.

 

It doesn't really matter which oil you use, its still gonna be a viscosity of 30 in the winter.

i remember seeing some oil test post here like 2 years ago, it showed which oil held up the best, with wear. RP came out on top along with one or two others. What they didn't mention was how long the cleaning agents held up. I ran it, didint feel to much different from Mobile 1 and seriously anything you feel is created in your head

 

No 10 is thicker which could produce sludge when cold and ive always done that and have been dealing with cars for awhile.

It is doubtful you will feel any gains. There is alot that people should know/take into consideration in regards to RP oil. 5W-30 RP oil is not a SM oil, it is only SL. This means that "technically" GM can void your warranty if they call for a SM oil (and they do). The only RP oil that is SM is 0W-40 and 5W-40, neither of which should be used in a cobalt. I bet if you hunt around you will find that people who are oil biochemists run M1, valvoline syn, penzoil syn or castrol syn before they would ever run RP. Just something to think about.

Also, most of those oil additives do not help and sometimes they can make problems worse. All of the oil additives will change the oil viscosities and wear protection and actually can cause wear. If you put in oil additive it isn't the end of the world, but my advice would be to get it out of the engine and never run any again.

It produces better lube for all moving parts when I use 5w30 it feels like im pouring in water lol and im not telling you to do it ive just always done it and never blew a motor or harmed a motore so its working for me and many others. Thats why slick 50 is based off of 10w30 it will stick to the parts.

For awhile my local stores were out of all Mobil1 synthetic and then they came back with a price increase. Anyone else have this happen?

...and I run Royal Purple. I used to run AMSOIL, and prefer AMSOIL, but got tired of having to order it.

 

Bingo that is what i was told by my service manager. And that is why i will only use Mobil 1 what GM recommended for it!
