Wider tire will provide more traction, but it may look a little bloated depending on your rim width

225 = 8.858 Inches
235 = 9.252 Inches

So theres not to much of a major difference, but you could tell if you look closely, Choose your rubber you want first, then look at the sizes and see if they have what you want, if not look again and repeat.

Yes they both will fit, it all depends on what your going for. A 235 will provide more road traction and surface area then a 225, but they are sometimes more expensive.

i'd like them to be slightly wider for appearance and perf so i may do the 235's, i just don;t want fitment issues, because i am going to lower my car later on this summer.

235/40's are a good size for 8" rims.

This is how I look at it.

18x7 (SS S/C) = 215
18x7.5 (SS T/C) = 225
18x8 (custom yo) = 235

In my opinion, 235/40 is what GM would have used if our cars came with 18x8 from the factory.

I think 245/40 would likely fit perfectly.

do you think the height of 40 would kill the ride quality even more as opposed to 45?

I switched from 215/45 to 225/40 and didn't notice any difference in ride quality. Then again some people notice that stuff more than others. I've been too busy enjoying the awesome traction compared to my old Pirellis lol.

Don't want to encourage you into taking on any debt, but just FYI TireRack.com accepts BillMeLater. 0 payments, 0 interest for 90 days on purchases over $250...

I would grab some BFG g-force KDW 2s and call it a day. Thats the route I went.

not really, and i'm running a crazy setup right now too. On major dips it will rub and when I go lower i'm sure it will rub more but just on springs it doesn't do it much.

You do know that the middle # is the sidewall height as a PERCENTAGE of the width, right? If you get 225/45's, they may rub. If you get 235/45's they WILL rub. Either will make your 18" wheels look like 17's because of the huge sidewall. For looks, I would get 225/40's. For performance, I would get 235/40's.

yea, a 235-45 is going to have a massive sidewall and look terrible, i say 235-40, or 25-40, if you want to go wider then 245-35, you want the tires to have a reasonably small sidewall the wheels actually lok good and so it doesnt rub
