Just got back from the track...

First time with the cobalt at the track. Aem intake & Megan exhaust only mods. 15.94 Fastest run=lame. made 7 runs before I left though. Pretty consistent 16.40 runs. I got some changes to make but I'll be back out there next week. Full tank of gas killed me for sure. One thing that kinda bothered me was the car got real hot 220-230 in the lanes. anyone else have this problem? outside temp was only 75-78.

hook it up to hptuners and make fans come on earlier at lower temperature... just an idea. thats what i did... you could also do the ice box trick...

Yea, i kept getting behind whatever car with massive hp V8 pumping hot exhaust at me all day too. HPTuner works for 2.2l? If so, shout out to any body with it meet at Capitol next friday.

Did you do back to back runs? That will definitely heat is up big time.

Once you get headers and a downpipe you'll see the largest gain. Auto or 5 spd?

First three runs were back to back, then 20 min cool down between runs after that. I'm headed back this friday, gonna try a crankcase filter instead of the hose going into the intake. No more hot laps for sure though.

so rather than having cool air from the intake, you'd prefer the hot air from right next to the engine?

HPTuners doesn't work with the 2.2 cobalt yet. i heard it will be unlocked for the 2.2 in the next few months thou. on another note a full take of gas doesnt help at the track, and dont wait in line with the car on.......push to move forward like others have said.

that's not gonna do anything for you. i think, more than anything, you just need to face that L61 balts are slow, and that's just the way it is. what are your 60' times?

Here's my times for that day
r/t .522; 60' 2.66; 1/8 10.541; 1/4 16.042; mph 90.15
r/t .645; 60' 2.55; 1/8 10.450; 1/4 15.961; mph 90.10
r/t .663; 60' 2.72; 1/8 10.682; 1/4 16.225; mph 89.77spun at the light
r/t .800; 60' 2.59; 1/8 10.521; 1/4 16.047; mph 89.97
r/t .938; 60' 2.66; 1/8 11.053; 1/4 16.668; mph 89.05 missed 1-2 shift
r/t .693; 60' 2.61; 1/8 10.534; 1/4 16.074; mph 89.91
Yea it's slow, I was a little concerned about the heat issue more than anything. 2nd run was against a 4dr Neon sxt with intake & exhaust, he ran a 17.394 and parked it after that. At least mine wasn't that bad! This friday my neighbor is bringin has camaro out for the first time so I'll see what I can do before the next round of mods comes.

I'd push it up to the light but the lanes are kinda on a uphill and my fat ass friend is too lazy to help.

your launches are absolutely horrendous. that car has AT LEAST a mid 15 in it if you could get it out of the hole.

wow what rpm are you holding at the line? Honestly even on my worst launch i think i still managed a 2.4x. There's an easy .5 sec off your time if you get your 60ft down to a 2.2-2.3.

15.9 in a slightly modified 2.2 is not bad. You should be happy. Is your car manual or auto?

One suggestion I have is to turn on the A/C while in the staging lanes waiting. It kicks the fans on and cools it down. Just make sure to turn it off when you are getting close to entering the water box.

Also, drop air pressure in front tires. Remove weight from car.

you need to run with a 1/4 tank of fuel or even alittle less..

Gasoline is 6.25 pounds per gallon.

6.25 X 10 = 62.5 pounds you could be saving.. These 4 cylinders do not have much torque so weight is a big issue.. also remove your spare tire, jack and anything else you dont need in the car.

Thanks for the tips. I never heard of running a/c to cool down, but it makes sense. Tire pressure was a problem for sure, as was the gas. Didn't really plan to go out there last week but I'm ready for tommorow. Got any pointers for getting a good launch? Mine's a 5-sp, and for some reason it feels like it wants to roll across the line at the light. Not sure if it's me or the track, probably me.

Well don't just drop the clutch, you probably just spin. Try launching between 2-3RPMs and find the sweet spot. Feather the clutch just a little at the start and rip through the gears. You should be able to get a 2.3-2.4 60'

Good luck

Well hell, I saw you run, me and a few friends heard you miss shift, thought it happened on more than one run though. And yeah, you can get those 60' down, mine ran a 16.7 @85.55mph at capital this past week, and I had a 2.47 60'. Are you shifting into 4th gear on your runs?
