yup and a chevy cruze ended up winning the race. they would be blood spilled if that was my race car that got hit.

ive read before on newer cars tat the doors are supposed to open to let force out of the pss compartment and make it safer for the drivers

And they're designed to come apart in a crash. The more mass a car can shed on impact, the less momentum it carries after. Although that applies more to purpose built race cars than production based cars like the bimmer.
