OTTP Stage 2 Rotated Tranny Monts - Review
OTTP Stage 2 Rotated Tranny Monts - Review
As the title states this is a review of the stage 2 ottp rotated tranny mounts. First off a little background knowledge. I cracked my tranny at the track from running street tires and just an ingalls torque damper. I had massive wheel hop. Anyways onto the review!
First off the shipping from ottp was very quick as promised. I had my dyno shop do the install while they put in the new tranny/clutch/axles and I asked them how the install was. They said it was very straight forward and just a simple swap. I can't comment on how hard/easy the install is because as I said I had a shop do it. But in there words it was a "easy straight forward swap".
The quality of the rotated tranny mounts looked and felt top notch. Once installed I had to wait for the clutch to break in. Everyone talks about vibrations with these mounts so that's something I would like to touch base on. These mounts DO have vibrations, HOWEVER they are VERY small. The vibrations are just barely noticeable in the steering wheel. My interior doesn't rattle, nothing inside rattles etc. I can still have a pop/soda can sitting in the cup holder without it vibrating out etc. The vibes really shouldn't be bothersome to anyone if they aren't to me. I have a bad back and can feel every little bump/vibration and these do not bother me at all. If anyone is thinking about not buying these because of vibrations then think again. For anyone who has really bad vibrations try reading the how to on installing them, or taking them off and reinstalling them making sure they are torqued to spec.
Now the main question I had was whether or not they were going to work. I talked to sean and josh and told them that I wanted ZERO wheel hop. They both agreed that stage 2 rotated mounts were the best call. Well tonight I went out and did some racing and let me tell you, they actually work! I was really shocked. I figured I would have some wheel hop but no...nothing but wheel spin. I didn't feel any axle tramp either however I only did a few launches. My tires spun all through 1st, and about half of second. This has NEVER happened before lol. My stock mounts were shot and my ingalls didn't do squat. I was hopping like a bunny on the track lol.
I don't really know what else to say other then I am 100% satisfied. The mounts barely have any vibrations, they do NOT set off any cel's, they look and feel very solid unlike the stock mounts and there from a great company!

Product Update
After driving an additional 40k miles with these mounts, I can say they are a 100% solid product. They have not changed since the day I bought them and still do there job great!

They are really expensive but they eliminate ALL wheel hop. It's crazy man I was so shocked when it was nothing but tires spinning lol. I love these mounts and am SO glad I bought them. I highly recommend you sell the solid mounts and grab them.
I found the install very easy. Like 2 out of 10 for difficulty. Just take your time and don't force anything and they'll drop right in. Install took 45 min tops. Extremely satisfied with this product and like Zach said the vibrations are minimal. The driver might feel the extra vibes through the steering wheel but a passenger would never notice.
yeah tahts what i'm curious about as well, how they before at the track. i only have the ttr upper mount on my car and on the street all i do is spin tires with no wheel hop, but at the track i still get a significant amount of wheel hop. I do have ttr's poly trans bushings to put in as well I'm just curious if its worth basically 400 to get these rotated mounts.
Ya I used them at the track this weekend. It was my first time ever at the track and on the first few launches I did hop a few times. However I blame this entirely on my own shitty driving. Once I stopped driving shitty and started to get the hang of it no prob. I have never once managed to get them to hop on the street.
It's just the 2 lower mounts. That's enough to solve the problem. You can do an upper mount if you want to go nuts, but the rotating effect cures the source of the wheel hop problem, so an upper engine mount is not as needed to compensate.
There is not an engine mount with the ottp mounts, there are 2 rotated tranny mounts only. I don't know if they work on the ss/tc. As far as the drag strip I won't know until friday when I get out there, but I have nothing but wheel spin up to about 55mph now lol.
The upper engine mount would help more with engine movement then anything else now. This SOLVES the wheel hop issue on the street 100%. I will check the track friday.

Can you PM a link? The mount design for the tranny mounts between the SS/SC and SS/TC is different, according to Powell Motorsports. Apparently, one of the mounts for the SS/TC is just like the mount for a LE5 with the F23. I can't remember which one, but the front one comes to mind for some reason. If there are SS/TC mounts out I know of at least 1 person that would be interested. He has a 2.4 with a F23 and would like to get a set. If it is at all possible, please let me know via PM so that I can forward the info to him.
stage 1 uses the new billet front mount and a spacer for the stock rear mount. no idle vibes. its enough for me. I use the tc insert (rear mount) anyway. most folks want the stage 2 coz they are drag racing. thats okay. drag racing is brutal on a car at the launchline and other things (tire pressure, cabs, shock damping, rear squat, driver mod) all come intoplay to cause hop, with the mounts you mayget tramp not hop on launch i do simetimes i just drive thru it. But I dont drag race much too hard on ther car and too short a buzz road racing is funner...
You bolt these right up.
