Anyone have any ideas what's new for '07?

 

GM claims that nothing will be new for the Cobalt until 2008. They state a "freshening" is due for '08 models. That will probably just include a few minor cosmetic changes for 2008. Maybe a different spoiler? Who knows!

 

yea i dont think there be some major ass changes...

 

I would almost guarntee if they are gonna do some minor changes in 08 it would the 2.0 Turbo.

 

i dont see them releasing stage kits on a car that is only going to be in production for 3 years. IE: 2005-2007. Is think they will stay with the supercharger for a while

 

Yeah, I agree they won't be ditching the SC. As I recall they only went with the turbo on the Solstice/Sky because the SC wouldn't fit in the engine bay. It's actually more expensive for them to turbo, and with the kits out now, it's faily cheap to match the turbo's output with the SC.

 

I think 2007 will be the same as 2006. Maybe Onstar will be standard. Maybe some new colors. And maybe they will offer polished aluminum wheels instead of the painted ones.

Other than that, there certainly won't be a turbo. The 2.0L turbo on the Solstice won't fit in our car. GM would have to develop a new system for our car. Maybe in 2008, but I still don't think so. More likely is they will just add direct injection to our car's engine in the future.

 

In 2007...I would guess possibly making LSD standard. In 2008 the Turbo. "But why would GM release the SC performance parts if they are gonna ditch it in a few years?" you say? Simple answer GM is a business that wants to make more money, so why not release a smaller pulley for the SC, larger fuel injectors (which could possibly be used for the turbo) and a reflash. Also why I think GM would ditch the SC is because you really dont see anyone using a SC anymore, everybody has gone to Turbos.

I'm rather interested in the '08s because now it looks like I have to wait till after my deployment to Iraq to get a SS/SC instead of right now. I could get one now, but only being able to drive it a couple of months and then store it for 13+ months just doesn't sound good. So I'll be getting it next year around the 07 to 08 change over. *SIGH*

 

The only thing I know is thats concrete is the mid year 06 offering of a polished wheel on the SS/SC . Its not the GM accessories wheel , its the same as the grey one just polished .

You may be getting preview of the 2008 balt interior in the US Pontiac Pursuit coming out this summer . The inside is "supposed" to be quite different from the Cobalt . Guess well see .

Powertrain changes info for 2008 . Keep your eyes peeled for the upcoming Saturn Astra . With Bob Lutz stating that suspension and powertain difference's between US and Euro GM platform sharing cars is gonna stop , its a pretty safe bet in 2008 all Euro Delta platform cars will get alot more mechanically similar powertrain wise .

Going off Bob Lutz's public comments , much stricker emissions regs and a push for better fuel economy ....Safe prediction's for 2008 are :

US 2.2 will be replaced by the Euro version 155hp direct injection 2.2

Both the Euro 2.0 turbo , the Saab 2.0 turbo and the US LSJ will be superceeed by 1 specific performance version of the 2.0 DI turbo ecotec . Couple with the 6-speed trans used in the Euto Astra . In GM speak , that move would be to have more power with much cleaner emissions and better fuel economy .....not just for more power No way in hell would Opel or Saab accept a supercharger for the Astra , they wanted nothing to do with the LSJ .

 

Well that kinda sucks cuz I wanted a super, not a turbo. I come from old school V8's, though I've always been interested in all the litter 4 bangers and the rotary engine. But I wanted domestic and since I kinda don't like Dodge, that only left me Ford (bla for their lil car) and Chevy ("It's coming... it's coming") to really choose from.

Well now that Chevy finally delivered and I was ready to buy, I'm getting deployed. And now your saying they might be going turbo, which would basicly stop me buying the car.

 

either way a turbo is less reliable, has boost leaks, needs to be rebuilt, etc. The sc is much more reliable imo.

 

Yep, and if you can't tell already by my last post, I *HATE* turbos.

 

Well I drive a semi with a 14L I6 with a turbo the size of a small kid! LOL
It has a 4: inlet and outlet on the comresor side and a 5" inlet and outlet on the turbine side.
It can make about 32Psi at full spool and has a sound and SRT4 owner would kill for.
It should last about 700-900 thousand miles and on top of that it will see 6-12 hours of idle time per day.
Turbos are reliable. They dont however have a power band like an S/C dose. and you will ether have boost lag or your power will be limited by the size of the turbo.

I love my SS S/C and the only thing I would have liked it to have had would be DCI.

the 3 spoke steering wheel from the g6, the radio from the ionv(black tie) and auto start are the only real changes for 07

 

plus removal of purple and granite blue, new color instead of granite blue.

 

I highly doubt there will be a turbo in the Cobalt's future, it wouldn't make any sense for GM to do that, it's more likely you'll see small interior changes, etc...going Turbo wouldn't be a "small change".

Aside from that I'm not sure why you would want them to go Turbo...SC's *are* more reliable then Turbo's, and produce a better powerband. The kits that are out for the SC's now don't exactly max the potential of the engine. Plus, it's not much like GM to release an engine then change a bunch of crap on it 4 years later.

And that's why they won't go turbo. For warranty purposes the Super Charger is really the only one they can make reliable enough to offer it under the standard/extended warranty.

 

Well thats good news. Cuz i'm NOT a turbo fan, and the Lazer Blue Metallic is staying! WOOT!

 

What is the black tie radio replacing? Will it be the standard radio or will it be an upgrade? Will the SS still come standard with the Pioneer?

 

Its replacin the silver colored radio thats in the Cobalt now and the new black one is for all the Cobalts. And the SS/SC will most likely still come with the Pioneer...why would they change that?
