Painting my Intake

First off im not sure if this is the area I should be posting this but I got a question.

The previous owner of my car either didn't know what he was doing or he was impatient but he put scratches all over the CAI. Well I want to take it out and paint it black to go with my theme(CAI is currently chrome). If I was to paint it what type of paint would I need to paint it and would I need to scuff up the surface before painting? Also is a primer needed?

I may just go and get it powder coated black but wanted to see what my options are with just spray painting it.

You should be able to use any type of paint but to be on the safe side use a high temp paint. My cai generally stays pretty cool, not much warmer then ambient, cold to the touch if I spray meth/nitrous.

Clear coat is if you want it shiny. If you want it dull then get a flat black or semi gloss with no clear.Otherwise use clear.I used semi gloss and looks really good Also get a scotchbrite and use that to scuff up the metal real good,Then wipe it off, then spray in light coats and itll look ****

Clean it off with a de-greaser. Sand it down with a fine grit sandpaper and clean it again. then use some engine enamel to paint it. Color of your choice. Should turn out just fine.

Has anyone had a problem with their intake hitting a little piece of the hood, and scratching the intake up?

On my SS/SC I have no problem with clearance and if it did it would hit that little cloth piece under the hood.

What type of intake you got? Your boot may be to long coming from you tb causing your intake to be pushed up to much. You got any pics of it?

Injen intake.

You can see it hit a little bit already on the emblem, and a bit around it and this is right around when I first got it put on. Much worse now. Even hit more around the emblem now.

Try to loosen the right side of the rubber boot and see if you can push the intake in some more. That may help ya.
