slow4dr 04-13-2006, 06:50 PM We just Laser cut some exhaust flanges for the 2.0 & 2.2. I hear rumors that a very large order of factory longblocks has been placed. It seems that we are gearing up for something pretty big. For those that don't know who "Banks" is, let's just say that Turbos are on the menu.

Blown 4-banger 04-14-2006, 04:45 PM holy crap banks is gonna unleash hell
Are you saying you think banks is gonna come out with some kind of ecotec deisel conversion or something? Or just a turbo kit?
DJNateGnau 04-14-2006, 04:49 PM A Banks Turbo is going to OWN. The procession of the kicking of balls, Has commenced.

No, I was just giving a hint of who we are and what we are known for. To answer your question though there will be quite a bit more than just turbo kits available. :twothumbs
*tease* ;)
Baby_freak 04-14-2006, 06:06 PM Fuckin' A Baby!
Crawl out from under your rock man... Banks is a huge company known for their diesel products mainly for trucks and diesel SUVs. Big turbos big intercoolers very very big exhausts (5 inches turbo back) great stuff.
Wyoming_Bass 04-16-2006, 12:19 AM Banks has a 600+ HP Dodge Deisel That runs the SALT FLATS...
celicacobalt 04-18-2006, 12:30 AM is this gonna be for the 2.4 as well?
slow4dr 04-18-2006, 10:57 AM is this gonna be for the 2.4 as well?
More than likely, but only time will tell. ;)
R33P3R007 04-18-2006, 11:01 AM wtf... why not just tell us when it was done, now you got our hopes up
celicacobalt 04-18-2006, 12:11 PM well a nice kit will stop all of the 2.4 guys from dumping their cars we are losing hope with all these empty promises, the 2.2 are getting more attention for some reason
WSFrazier 04-18-2006, 12:20 PM Those pics above look like a 2.4 to me. But I slept with my contacts in and just woke up, lol.
slow4dr 04-18-2006, 12:23 PM Those pics above look like a 2.4 to me. But I slept with my contacts in and just woke up, lol.
You are correct. There are two sitting there one is a 2.2 the other is a 2.4
RedBaseBolt 04-18-2006, 12:45 PM Keep us updated! this might be competition for Hahn :)
kadumel 04-18-2006, 12:59 PM I am so about to dump this shitty 2.4... It is fast but just can't keep up with the SS/SC or the SRT-4. God it is so annoying. Also, how much and what is available in the way of upgrading the tranny to hold a turbo?
WSFrazier 04-18-2006, 01:19 PM Haha, got another potential switcher.
slow4dr 04-19-2006, 12:21 PM Keep us updated! this might be competition for Hahn :)
Bill Jr. makes some great products but we will be taking this project a few steps farther.
I am so about to dump this shitty 2.4... It is fast but just can't keep up with the SS/SC or the SRT-4. God it is so annoying. Also, how much and what is available in the way of upgrading the tranny to hold a turbo?
More than likely we will just be offering engine components. Has anyone broke a tranny yet?
celicacobalt 04-19-2006, 12:34 PM no one broke a 2.4 tranny yet becuz we have no huge power adders yet but im sure it can hold 250 hp fine, and how much further than hahn will you be taking this>?
kadumel 04-19-2006, 02:07 PM Heh, my tranny works but where is Banks located? If they want a test car I will drive it up to 300 miles, maybe further. And maybe if you guys are nice enough, I could get a rental or borrow a car too! ^^ if not I will provide my own transportation...
Nocturn 04-19-2006, 03:51 PM Shouldn't those flanges be port matches? They look like someone cut them just guessing what the sizes were.

Southern California, we have an employee with an Ion Redline already and more than likely I would get a Cobalt should they need one. Most of the devlopment that will happen early on is just going to be engine based not vehicle.

Good eye, actually the flange pictured was cut for the 2.0 head so it doesn't match up on the 2.4 very well.

I can't answer that just yet but this should give you an idea.

LSpower05 04-20-2006, 11:23 AM Holy jesus i'd like to see the bill for that one... :-O
celicacobalt 04-20-2006, 11:32 AM wow, so you are talking turbo charged crate engines, nice.
Clmbngfrk18 04-21-2006, 09:35 PM crate engines or plan on breaking a couple in testing lol nice it see more stuff for my little 2.2
Nuclear 04-21-2006, 09:54 PM oh my god!
laserblue2006 04-21-2006, 10:27 PM man i dont think theree were that many engines at my dealership:red:
He's also said something about there being another 25 engines on the way. So they will have something over 50 engines to test/break during the development of whatever they are planning.
Should be nice to see what kind of performance upgrades are going to be available for these cars. Of course, for the 2.0L owners, getting rid of the supercharger and replacing it with a Banks turbo (if that is actually what it is) will probably end up costing quite a bit of coin.
This will probably be a more viable purchase option for those currently with a 2.2L or 2.4L engine.
Brandon97Z 04-22-2006, 06:33 AM gimme some 2.4 rods and pistons please ;)
Dragonsfire12345 04-22-2006, 05:42 PM I'll be happy with some low compression pistons and I'll be fine.
BlackBalt 04-23-2006, 02:18 AM The kit should use the turbo off of a Cummins diesel, that would be awesome...
slow4dr 04-24-2006, 01:55 PM The kit should use the turbo off of a Cummins diesel, that would be awesome...
There are more well suited turbos on the market for small displacement engines.
gimme some 2.4 rods and pistons please ;)
 Let's hope so.
Badmunky 05-29-2006, 09:54 PM SO any updates on this?
Later
snobird 05-29-2006, 10:04 PM everything he is saying and what the pics tell and banks history tells me tranny cooler tourqe convertor along with a tru t5 trim turbo setup (probally 50 mm 55mm)probally running 10 psi boost safe and im sure there wil be injectors to go with to and some forged pistons rods etc and im syre they will have a basic setup avalaible to save money as well just like the intense stage kits but its looking positive
joeworkstoohard 05-29-2006, 10:56 PM i would guess... just looking at how the rest of the market does this sort of thing...
kit A low boost 6-8lbs, perhaps somewhere in the 190-210hp range full bolt on.
kit B more boost, with a lot more crazy internal work done and a lot of broken clutches.
slow4dr 05-30-2006, 11:19 AM The 2.2 is scheduled to go on the engine dyno soon, so I will report back with any pertenant information after that.
At this time there are no definite plans as far as "kits" or "engines" but you guys can expect anything but basic.

celicacobalt 05-31-2006, 01:31 AM well since hahn thinks that they wont offer turbo kits fr the auto 2.4 ss maybe you could help us in that dept.?
Asphalt Assault 05-31-2006, 02:20 AM Just when I think I will go to start generating HP I decide to wait it out a little while longer.....LOL....Just to see what else better is coming along.
slow4dr 05-31-2006, 11:05 AM well since hahn thinks that they wont offer turbo kits fr the auto 2.4 ss maybe you could help us in that dept.?
It's tough to say just yet, but some of the decision makers are keeping an eye on this thread.
celicacobalt 05-31-2006, 01:18 PM yeah i have all the money saved up right now and i just need a kit to spend the money on. i just hate how the 5 speeds are always catered to 1st. automatics are fast too with the right parts and i have the money to buy a kit, who else here does? i wanted to be turboed by now.
Brandon97Z 05-31-2006, 03:21 PM Forged pistons are a must for us 2.4's its really the main thing thats holdling us back. Maybe a 8.5:1 or 9:1 compression too :).
:twothumbs I wish i had a bigger superchrger for my 2.0 think banks could help:twothumbs
celicacobalt 06-01-2006, 11:16 AM heres what i wrote them:
I am very dissapointed to hear that you are only
working with the 2.2 liter and 2.0 liter cobalts. i
have the SS 2.4 liter cobalt and i have been waiting
for a turbo kit ever since i bought it i have the
money just sitting here. I am also very dissapointed
that ive heard you will not be offering the turbo kits
for the automatic cobalts which is what i have, im
sure there is a way to make it work so that both stick
and auto can enjoy turbo power.

to the autotrans that will withstand the power we may reconsider this.
The 2.2 and 2.0 Kits will be released first, then the 2.4. All should
be available by the end of the year.
now i'm pissed cuz i wanted to be turboed this summer so bad and they screwed the autos over. if the auto cavaliers and sunfires could be turboed and tranny hold the power then im sure the cobalt can as it should have better parts anyway. i might have to get a new car if you guys dont come thru with something for us auto's. we are enthusuests too and dont deserve to be shafted when it comes to us wanting more power.

turbo for the 2.0? replacement of SC or twin-charged setup?

turbo for the 2.0? replacement of SC or twin-charged setup?
I am guessing replacement, because the twin-charged setup would not be beneficial for the price. Would be almost same results as without the turbo. I might be wrong though.
celicacobalt 06-01-2006, 11:53 AM no this is in regards to the 2.4 ss automatic
Acidangel_5.0 06-01-2006, 12:00 PM no this is in regards to the 2.4 ss automatic
your letter you just wrong said the 2.2 and 2.0 will see kits first.. thats why i asked what the setup was on the 2.0
Halfcent 06-01-2006, 12:32 PM Here is what I know. I have seen these prototype cars in person at Hahns shop.
The LSJ kit is a twin charger kit. It is basically done, they are just tweaking it.
The L61 kit will work on both the Manual and Automatic cars.
The 2.4 VVT kit they have is for the Solstice and it is already in production. I don't know anything about any plans to make any kit for the 2.4 VVT Cobalt. That doesn't mean that there are no plans, I just don't know of any.

does this honestly come as a surprise to you???
The 2.4L is great--it can beat anything in its class (Mazda 3, Focus ST, Ralliart, Scion TC) but don't expect to beat faster cars, like an SRT-4 with it
