Question Injen / CIA "Cold Air" Intake Guys - In Here!!!

Guys,

Well since I am not about to wait another 3 months for a cold air, I have been researching some kits for the 'Balt SS/TC.

I am looking at two really nice kits that keep the MAF where it is supposed to be and I haven't heard any complaints about either...which is good.

I know both products are very new....but....

Anyone have these installed? Every picture I see is with the front bumper cover removed! Do I have to remove my bumper to install the damn thing? I am NOT looking to do that!!!

I guess reviews are in order.

How hard was the install?
Do you have to take the bumper off or remove the fender well?

Let us know!!!

Don

CIA has not released theirs yet as a group deal of ten just finished so there should be people getting them in about 3 weeks.

Let's keep this thread going...

I'm looking at getting a CAI, and don't know which brand would be best. I don't want to deal with oiling it so I want to go dry (does this make a diff?), but should I go hahn, CIA, injen, gmpp, aem? What is the most bang for my buck? I'm kinda leanin' toward injen, but I don't really know...

Thanks!

Keep in mind when you need to re-oil an oiled filter its time to clean it anyway. You still need to remove the dry filters to clean them every so often, so its a moot point. I prefer dry filters just so I don't have to worry about over oiling and ruining my MAF, and they filter a bit better than most cotton gauze oiled.

So who is going to come out with an intake that #1 adds power, and # 2 doesn't have fitment, MAF or leakage issues?

If you read the info that Clear Image Automotive has posted about the work they have done on their intake you will see that all of your concerns are met with their intake.

We've put on about 7,000 miles on our Cobalt SS Turbo with no check engine lights, no fitment issues along with the AEM intake and we love it. Its working great, makes good power, and in dyno testing, gave the most amount between it and the HRC intake.

We'll have the INJEN intakes in stock shortly, I hope to take some photos of the INjen installed and possibly even dyno tested against the AEM.

After the Mazdaspeed /AEM CAI problem on the Mazdaspeed 3/6 cars, I decided to take my chances with Clear Image. I'm not doubting you, but people in parts of the country that get cold in the winter had huge problems with their intake that owners in places like Florida, Texas, and SoCal never did. Cold air + out of whack fuel trims (lean) = check engine lights, misfires, fuel cuts, headaches.

The cure was pretty easy, AEM made an air flow straightener, and then they charged people for them.

I'd be interested in seeing the fuel trim difference between stock, Hahn, and AEM as that is likely why it's picking up more power than the Hahn.

Is it even for sale yet? I have not heard of anyone running it yet they were still in the R&D phase because of issues with making the breather fitting seal correctly. That was a month or two ago though.

I picked up a batch of the factory style breather fittings last week. I'm just waiting to get the MAF flanges, they are supposedly ready at the machine shop but I have not heard from them directly yet. Our pre-sale for the first 10 is over and we hope to be able to have all fabrication done by next weekend.

Thanks for your interest everyone.
