What's the highest safe speed for a 5 to 3 shift ?
You know, for a little freeway fun !
I have done it at 70 - beyond that, not brave enough. Is there some 'sane' guidelines someone here has come up with ?
Thanks !
Britt

I prefer keeping it in 4th and brake boosting. I tried the 5th to 3rd once when a speed 3 jumped me peggging 90, by the time I dropped to third at 80, it was so damn close to shifting into 4th it wasnt even worth trying to catch up to the car lengths I got walked. But I think its somewhere near 90ish where the stock redline would be.
I would say you want a gear that will have you above 3k but below 5k.
3k will keep you in a respectable part of your powerband, and anything after 5k is a waste of time because you'll hit your max torque and hp only 200 rpm later and even if you shift at redline it will only be a split second after you start. The starts are important because you can get the slight momentum edge in the beginning that will keep you ahead.

go onto the interstate in 3rd and, keeping it in 3rd, get up to 5,000RPM, then look at your speedometer. That is your max speed.
I say to do this because every car is different.
Anyways, when passing, make sure you double clutch if you're doing a 5-3rd shift... otherwise, you'll get a hell of a jolt.

Stock redline TC F35's 3rd goes to about 103-105ish depending on who you ask.
80 or below gets 3rd.

Why would you double clutch exactly Torreto?
3rd gear is synchronized...REV MATCHING (blipping the throttle so no clutch drag is experienced) is NOT double clutching
