Gumball 330 Experience
Gumball 330 Experience
Hey,
I just wanted to do a quick right up about the Gumball 330 I competed in this past weekend. For those who don’t know, The Gumball is a Rally Race where you race from checkpoint to checkpoint. This race is put on by a club called 330 Tuning based in Akron. It looked like a good excuse to cruse, so I decided to go.
First off I left Columbus late and the race starts at 2:00, so after I get there at 1:57 and see almost 40 cars there. It was a nice mix of cars there was a Evo X, Subie STi, 2 other Caliber SRT4’s, Acura TL Typs-S, etc. I was car number 40 and I had to start last. At 2:00 the race started. You have a have a driver and a navigator. You are given directions to checkpoints. There are no exact address some street names, or direct that say go three lights and turn left. Some directions are in code like turn at Ketchup Road which was actually “Heinz hill Road”. So we started out in downtown Akron and since I was in a rush I only had ¼ tank of gas. So the first leg of the race we go so turned around we stopped and asked for directions I stopped for gas and a potty break. After a while I decided to user the navi and skip to the end of our directions so we could get back on track. It was fun watching all the cars zig zag across the city. We finally made it to our first checkpoint we pick up several positions, and a Subie and a Mini CooperS. Some of the directions takes up to some nice country back roads where I go to test out my cars handling. Though its not as good as my Si its still pretty good. I was able to keep up with a bmw coupe & a boosted Subie RS…..until I realized I had missed my last checkpoint and had to turn around. In the end I ended up getting to the finish line 5th which was not bad given I started in the 40th spot. The race was scored by who got closest to the target time and target mileage, which I didn’t know until it was over. I had the shortest time from start to finish and tied for the shortest time to finish with being under 4hrs. I will probably be doing it again next year it was a blast.
Here are some of the pictures from before and after the event

After I got back home I saw the front of my car and it was a graveyard for bugs
