Nah. Engine had some mods too. Mainly suspension work. Also a stitch welded chassis. I'd kill for one of those.

They are the same as the VQ35HR, which is in the 07-08 Z's, just having an intake and a Nismo Exhaust. I believe they are "rated" at 308hp still, but the intake and exhaust would add about 10 hp on those engines. Not surprising you beat one. IDK why people think they are so damn fast. I used to own one, and they aren't that fast, just handle like amazing.

They can run 13.3-13.5s in the quarter w/ nearly perfect runs..

They're pretty quick..

OP.. 3.5 cars from 40 to 90(ish)? Hm.. Maybe he started in 3rd? Those don't get walked that easy...

The car is pretty dead from a 40 roll unless heavily modded or with different gears. It's just a bad spot to be in in the rpm range.

The car is no more powerful than any other Z, just much quicker around a track.

I love mine, but it's just not a roll-race car. Do it from a 20 or a dig and the car comes alive, 1-2 is where the car really shines, the gears are spaced nice and it just works, but from a rolling 40 start, the car just feels sluggish. It's below the cam crossover point and the car just doesn't want to move right away. 50mph in 2nd is much better. It's still an N/A car.
