View Full Version : ZZP LNF Update- New Track Times
Matt M 07-04-2009, 03:46 AM We took the 08 SS/T to the track Friday night for some test/tune. The previous best time on this car was a 12.91 at 113.75. The only major change since then was a ZZP IC upgrade, and we started to bump the boost up a little. The track was busy tonight, and our race night started poorly. On the first pass, one of the clamps came off the charge tube right after the launch. We fixed that, but a different coupler came loose on the next pass. This time, it happened late enough in the pass that it didn't affect the ET much. This pass was a 12.841 @ 114.07, but should have had a bit more mph. For the next pass, Ryan got too aggressive off the line and spun bad. I think it was a 13.1 or something close to that. At this time, we decided to bolt on the slicks.:) The first pass on slicks was a 12.56 @ 114 with a slow 2.1 sixty foot. This was without any tirespin, so it became obvious that we need to turn up the 1st gear desired air loads and also raise the park/neutral rev limiter to get more RPM at the line. On the next pass, Ryan stuck the launch, but had trouble getting second gear. (The shifter cables are not getting along with us very well in this car.) On this run, the sixty foot was a very nice 1.74! With a 114 trap, this would put us close to 11s. Unfortunately, it didn't work out that way. With the staging lanes closing, Ryan hotlapped and put down a nice burnout, but came off the line a little slow before the car came to life and put down a 1.82 sixty foot. He made a very conservative 1-2 shift and kept his foot planted on the 2-3. We knew this was going to be a nice run and the ET board confirmed it. 12.178 @ 114.18!
All in all, we are pleased with the progress with this car. We have a little ways to go to hit our 11 second stock turbo goal, but we are confident that we can get there.
2K5SS/SC? 07-04-2009, 06:11 AM Congratulations on the good times! :twothumbs You are definitely going to have to post the slip though as the haters will want proof! What size tires and slicks are you using? Any pics?
Maxim_X 07-04-2009, 10:09 AM It's crazy how hard your 60'ing that car. I have trouble maintaining 2.1's.
dunit121 07-04-2009, 10:14 AM very nice
ecotecturbo 07-04-2009, 10:34 AM Awesome times guys. Very impressive!:twothumbs

No video's this go-around?
We have some video, but the processor is on my computer at the shop. I'll get over there and transfer it some time this weekend and get some videos posted.
Awesome times. I bet you guys had a blast
Yes, it's always fun getting out to the race track. It's even more fun when we can put down some nice times.
damn, stock suspension? What size slicks are you using?
very impressive ZZP!Stock suspension with the rear springs blocked. 26x10" Mickey Thompson slicks.
cmiller8006 07-04-2009, 12:46 PM Stock suspension with the rear springs blocked. 26x10" Mickey Thompson slicks.
So you guys swapped the brembos for a small brake kit?
mkriebs 07-04-2009, 12:47 PM IMPRESSIVE! I knew this car has 11's in her on the stock turbo. Just out of curiosity, what are you setting the P?N rev limit at?
Matt M 07-04-2009, 12:54 PM So you guys swapped the brembos for a small brake kit?
Yes, we are running LSJ brakes.
impressive! I knew this car has 11's in her on the stock turbo. Just out of curiosity, what are you setting the p?n rev limit at?6000

I second that notion! What size rim?
cmiller8006 07-04-2009, 01:05 PM
Yes, we are running LSJ brakes.
Are you running stock axles as well, and did you upgrade the clutch?
mkriebs 07-04-2009, 01:06 PM 6000
HOLY SHIT! I was running about 4 when I broke my CV joint. Are you on stock axles still? I am in the process of developing some for DSS, so I know you aren't on DSS axles, unless you swapped out the hub for an SC hub...
Matt M 07-04-2009, 01:12 PM
Yes, we are running LSJ brakes.
Are you running stock axles as well, and did you upgrade the clutch?Yes, stock axles. They are very strong on the LNF.
Yes, we are running a ZZP clutch.
mkriebs 07-04-2009, 01:22 PM
Yes, stock axles. They are very strong on the LNF.
Yes, we are running a ZZP clutch.
I am convinced I got a a lemon axle. Cuz, 4k on street tires should not be breaking them, when i am only tuned.
drew1991sf 07-04-2009, 01:25 PM very nice job matt. wat stg zzp clutch are u running? is it stock flywheel?
ralliartist 07-04-2009, 01:49 PM so you are launching off the p/n rev limit? does that cut spark or just fuel?
I know on the LSJ it only cuts fuel.
mkriebs 07-04-2009, 01:51 PM Seems to me it cuts both, because I am running perfectly stoich when I am staging when i run it off the p/n limiter.
ralliartist 07-04-2009, 01:56 PM I'll look into it more with the LSJ then. Would be nice if this is actually a way to use a launch limiter. Problem I had also was if I set it below my shift point, the ECU was trying to pull the rpms down as soon as I pushed the clutch in. So it didn't behave too kindly when actually wrapping it out.
mkriebs 07-04-2009, 01:58 PM Of course it doesn't build boost (would be nice eh?), but it sure makes it good for consistency. And the way I think it works, is thatthe ECU thinks of the clutch disengaging as a 'neutral' of sorts. I wouldn't mind hearing how this works out for you though.
SuperchargedSS 07-04-2009, 02:02 PM Congrats. A lot people here said the tc could never hit 11's on the stock turbo. This shows that it's entirely possible. Those are encouraging 60s....
Great to see the potential of the lnf coming to life....
ralliartist 07-04-2009, 02:03 PM well, like I said. From what it did previously when I was messing around with it, it would work great for consistency, but it would pop and jerk the car from pulling the rpms down on a wot shift. I had it set for 5500rpms, and I was shifting at 7500rpms.
I think I may just need to get an actual 2-step. But the p/n rev limit did allow me to build boost. But I am supercharged compared to you turbo guys.

OH! I think I misunderstood you. I think our WOT shift capability counteracts the effect you were getting. I will have to look at my logs real quick to see how the engine was reacting to WOT shifts, but it felt fine. But, a WOTbox wouldn't hurt for you.
Looking at my logs, it did not bog whatsoever for me. I only lost 2.5 psi, and my RPMS didn't jump around at all.
ralliartist 07-04-2009, 02:42 PM sounds like I just need to get a 2-step.
Projekt 07-04-2009, 02:46 PM Im curious if you guys we're running the brembos..if not what rim did you go with to clear them for DR?
also what mods?
_UnLiMiTeD_ 07-04-2009, 02:50 PM he stated they are using lsj brakes earlier in the thread
Projekt 07-04-2009, 02:51 PM he stated they are using lsj brakes earlier in the thread
fail to me then
EthensCobalt 07-04-2009, 03:01 PM wow our car is the shit.............
Matt M 07-04-2009, 04:54 PM so you are launching off the p/n rev limit? does that cut spark or just fuel?
I know on the LSJ it only cuts fuel.
The LNF uses throttle to control RPM at the line. You can put the pedal to the floor and the actual throttle position will only be enough to maintain the RPM setting for park/neutral.
I'll look into it more with the LSJ then. Would be nice if this is actually a way to use a launch limiter. Problem I had also was if I set it below my shift point, the ECU was trying to pull the rpms down as soon as I pushed the clutch in. So it didn't behave too kindly when actually wrapping it out.
I see what you are saying, but it shouldn't be a problem. You want the RPMs to come down quickly when you are shifting anyway.
DoMiStIc_RuSh_06 07-04-2009, 05:03 PM so when are you going to release these ss/tc parts????
i want i want...lol
FF_ace 07-04-2009, 05:58 PM what mods are you runing? do you have the head ported also?
ecotecturbo 07-04-2009, 07:42 PM How much boost are you running now?
marcusicp 07-04-2009, 08:42 PM Awesome times! Can't wait to see what you guys do with a "perfect" pass! Keep up the good work and hurry up and release that ported head for us LNF guys... I bet there are a few people that would want to pick one up.

06 GM CobaltSS 07-05-2009, 03:42 PM Great job guys! Impressive!
Matt M 07-05-2009, 03:52 PM How much boost are you running now?
About 22-23 after a shift fading to 17 at the top of the gear.
What is the TC dynoing at?
332 in the trim we ran on Friday.
Maxim_X 07-05-2009, 06:04 PM I was wondering how you were putting so much power down with the stock turbo. Then I realized you are running a ported head.
KillerBee 07-05-2009, 06:57 PM I was wondering how you were putting so much power down with the stock turbo. Then I realized you are running a ported head.
Are they? All it says is IC pipeing. I could be missing something!
FF_ace 07-05-2009, 07:08 PM these are their mods to the car:
ZZP IC and upper charge tube
AEM intake tube to stock airbox with K&N filter
ZZP DP, 3" exhaust
ZZP ported head
ZZP tune
Slicks
they took the stock brembo's off and put LSJ brakes on
drop-n-destroy 07-05-2009, 07:16 PM Awesome run! Very, very impressive :twothumbs
xray_racer 07-07-2009, 03:01 PM Any problems with wheel hop at all? You've got the stock engine mounts right?
Ryan@zzp 07-07-2009, 03:45 PM Any problems with wheel hop at all? You've got the stock engine mounts right?
Yes, the car has stock mounts and we have not had any problems with wheel hop.

It was ready for clear coat last time I saw it. It's looking pretty good so far!
Ryan@zzp 07-09-2009, 10:02 AM Any new news on your car Ryan? Done with the paint at least?
Came in this morning and the car looks great. Greg is putting the rest of the car together now and will be wet sanding the car this afternoon. It will be driveable by the end of the day, but this weekend is pinks and we have to get the drag car in the pits tonight so the rest of the weekend is full. More progress will be made on Monday. I will have a thread update soon.
