TWM with bushings and weighted ball installed

Installed today and let me tell you, I'm very very satisfied. Like others I've had issues with getting the car into 1st and even 2nd (at slower speeds) this install took care of all that. It leaves you with a very solid but smooth shift while shifting up or down. I would highly recommend this shifter (with bushings) to anyone. I only have 1000 miles on the car, but this brought in a whole new sense of "fun factor" to an already fun car to drive, and got rid of my complaints I had with the stock shifter. I've seen threads that blamed the transmission for these problems, but I found it to be all in the shifter myself.

Welcome to the club... I have one myself and can totally vouch for it. Although the stock shifter is a short throw, it is nowhere near as smooth the twm sts. My stock shifter kept wanting to hang up in neutral as I was shifting through gears and this shifter took care of the problems....

I know STS on my SS/SC was one of the nicest upgrades, really made the car more fun to drive.

how much of a difference does the weighted knob make, out of curiosity? i have the twm with bushings, and it feels GREAT going into gear, and is smoother than the stock shifter going through the gears. just wondering if anyone happens to know how much a weighted knob would feel vs the regular, cause i'm thinking of a weighted knob now. heh.

How much "shorter" is the throw than stock since the stock shifter is sort of a short throw?

Actually the throw isn't really shorter than stock...except for 5th gear - that one is really short (about 1 inch off of third). I have never had a problem with stress on the shift cables. I think that if there were stress then I would feel it in the shift. The shift is completely smooth though. As for the weighted knob - I can only compare it to the stock knob. The weighted knob actually helps the shift feel solid (if that makes any sense). I have small hands so the knob is perfect for me. The stock knob was a little big so it always felt awkward when shifting. Hope this info helps...

If the know is metal, I wouldn't bother. I hate getting a 5-speed tattoo burned into my palm in the afternoon.

Throw something over it while the car sits, or keep something to put over it when you drive home. I used to have that problem in the Cobalt sometimes, but I usually had a microfiber towel in the car for cleaning purposes.

I can vouch for this shifter along with the weighted mod. GREAT upgrade. Well worth the extra money compared to the others. And in central FL it gets HOT in the car, thats why I keep a baby sock in my car so I don't get the 5-speed shift pattern burned into my palm.

I need to get one of these. I always feel like I am going to break the stock shifter and I dont shift very hard at all. It is either this or 3rd gen black projecters. Decisions, Decisions

I love my TWM sts. Still my favorite mod that I've done to my car.

Update:

After having some more time on the shifter, I don't think it actually gets rid of as much binding (going back into 1st) as I originally thought, still better than stock though. The feeling of going up and down through the gears is still great, much better than stock and still a nice solid feeling shift and the ball still feels great in the palm.

As far as the shift goes I measured about 3.5" from 1st to 2nd
Height 6.5"
I know with the stock shifter it would hit my shorts pocket when I have the wallet and cell phone there. This one does not.

As far as stretching the cables I was worried about this myself, but saw how many post there are of shifter cables snapping and from what I gather most are on the stock shifter, so I figure it would break either way, but maybe not since I haven't seen many broken shifter cable threads involving a TMW or any aftermarket STS for that matter.
