First time at the track today
Went out tonight to the track. What tire pressure does everyone usually go to when racing? I had my set at 26 so I don't know if that was still a bit high. I need to get better at launching, best 60 foot tonight was a 2.28, best quarter14.58@101.74, and that was with a crappy 2.34 60 foot. I did the nls from 2-3, man, that does make a difference cuz I didn't try the first couple of runs. One question I do have, do they make colder t-stats for these cars and if so, is it ok to run one. I will say never really was able to get the car decently cool. Well, next I go out will be after my mods and tune, that'll make launching it fun.
Probably need to drive flawlessly through the whole thing. Cutting off ~.3 seconds on the launch isn't going to cut ~.5-1.0 seconds off the whole run. It'll certainly help though! Nailing a no lift shift every time will help cut it down as well.
If you can cut .3 tenths of your 60 foot it could definetly cut .5 off your ET.
Ya.. 2.28 is just fine for stock tires and stock tune.. my best 60' is 2.26 with the tune and part throttle launches.. no traction in 1st at all :s You should be NLS'ing 2-3 and 3-4; it helps alot. Good shifting alone should get you in the 14.1 range imo; traction shouldn't be a huge issue with a stock car either.
The track I was at usually doesn't have the best prep in the world so that didn't help me out. I could cut 2. teen 60 foots with my gtp, so more work and I know I could do it with the cobalt.
learn to NLS from 1-2 off your launch. I bet you had horrible wheel hop/bog issues?
honestly, NLS from 1-2 is freaking difficult, 1st gear goes so quick and a lot of the times, unless you control tire spin, your not completely WOT in 1st ( atleast this newb isn't)
talking bout myself lol

You cut a 2.23 60 foot which isn't terrible. I would say you screwed up somewhere else, maybe between 1st and 2nd or 2nd to 3rd. I cut 2.2s regularly in my stock SS/SC and have a few 14.2s to show for it. I'd say clean up your shift points and make sure you are revving to near redline when shifting.
not trying to thread jack, but here are my times for the first time at the track, these were back to back runs ...

notice how my times are ALMOST identical! the 60 foot is critical, even 2 one hundreths shaves time off.

Improvements on the time it takes for the car to travel the first 60 feet down the track have significant implications on the final ET (estimated time). As a general rule, improvements in the 60 foot time, are magnified by 2x on your final ET. For example, a Dodge Viper GTS that runs a 12.2 @ 120 MPH in the 1/4 mile with a 60 foot time of 2.0 can make significant improvements to it’s 1/4 mile times by obtaining a better launch. If the Dodge Viper GTS is able cut .2 (two tenths) of a second off it it’s 60 foot time, by covering the first 60 feet in 1.8 seconds, it’s final ET for the 1/4 mile would be around 11.8 @ 119 – 121MPH. Bj's05 Cobalt, I ran at Kilkare In Xenia, tune and tests every thursday. I always clean my tires off whenever at the track. Yeah, I need to try the 1-2 nls next time, doing the 2-3 made a signifgance difference in the runs that I did not do any nls's. When I did the 2-3 nls I did it at 6000 rpm, is the best for 1-2 5800 rpm since first is so short of a gear?

im at work right now, so no time slips but i was able to pull off a 14.10 with a 2.18 60ft on street tires. i didnt NLS 2nd-3rd (and i feel stupid for not doing so). Best part of that run was my .001 RT lol even though it dont mean **** im proud of it haha
NLSing my ss/sc makes a difference for sure. When you do it preload your shifter. Like pull it back slightly toward your next gear. That way the instant you tough the clutch its already in gear. Ive ran a 14.2 stock doing that.
