Chevy Cobalt SS 2009 vs Acura Integra LS 1996

Which is faster? I started exactly 2 seconds after the acura integra ls, but he still beat me through the 1/8 mile. Why couldnt I catch up? Both cars are automatic.

He's apparently driving an SS/NA which also explains why he didn't beat the Integra.

Well, is your car a 2009 Cobalt SS/TC, or an older Cobalt SS/NA? I'm not much of an Integra buff, although I'm sure that someone else can chime in on that part

If its a sedan its possible and 2 seconds can make all the difference. But either way it doesn't belong in this section lol

well duh even if you had an sstc youd have a pretty tough time catching him in the 1/8th. its a 2 second head start lol.

I don't know much about Integras but yes, 2 seconds is a large head start... especially if he was making a similar amount of power. I dunno, it's up to other people to answer this since I don't know much about these cars.

in racing, 2 seconds is an eternity. even half a second is big. if you can pick up a half second at the strip by adding something to your car, you consider that a win.

and is probably modded, whereas the cobalt might be stock. i also think the integras were underrated, whereas the cobalt ss/na was overrated

no need to feel embarrassed. you gave him a 2 second lead. the SS model which you have is about a 15.5 second car in the 1/4 mile and the integra is probably about the same if not 16 seconds. so if you gave him a 2 second lead you are basically making him a 14 or less second car in reference to your starting position. if you were a 2009 SS turbocharged then you should be able to break dead even if he had 2 seconds time before you, or pretty close. The SS 2.4L are pretty slow to the SS supercharged and SS turbo models. thats why they renamed it the Sport.

a 2 sec head start in the 1/8 is HUGE. For example, a car that runs a 7 flat in the 1/8 (much faster than either of these cars would run) is a low 11 second car no problem. a 9 sec 1/8 is good for a low 14 sec 1/4. the difference between a low 11 and a low 14 is the difference between a z06 and an ss/sc .

^ exactly, well put...

It sounds like you don't know much about the track or racing in general. It would be great for you to watch and learn at the track and ask questions when you are there. Go with some friends who have track time and experience. The thing is, even if you did give him a 2 second head start and then you left the tree, just because he made it to the 1/8th first does not mean he got there faster then you. The time only starts when you move and the laser senses it. Another words, I could hit the gas before you and it could take me 6.8 seconds in the 1/8th mile. The other guy could sit there for 20 seconds and then hit the gas. He could run the 1.8th in 6.5 seconds beating my time. Even though he gave me a 20 second head start. Hope that makes sense...
