Local dealership complicating Stage 1 for me!

So I went into my dealer today to find out about getting the kit installed there. I wanted to find out if they would install it if I got the kit through CED. The service consultant asked the service manager and there answer was this: "We can install it, but if you don't buy it here it will only be covered for 1yr/12000mi. If you do buy it here it'll be covered under the bumper to bumper warranty." WTF! Im certainly not paying $100 more when I can get the same overpriced parts for $550. What the hell should I do guys? This is getting complicated...my damn dealership sucks.

They do not know what they are talking about. As long as you bring them GM parts and they install it then it is under warranty. I would talk to someone else. Back in the day i bought gm stage 2 off ebay before you could even get it at the dealer and i had them install it and there was no problems.

The correct answer to this situation is:

Tell them to cram it up their ass.
They are dumb and trying to make you pay for something you shouldn't pay more for.

Tell them they are losing business by being ignorant.

The dealer doesnt have to install parts if they do not wish too. Now the warranty item is absurd, as long as the kit is installed by a GM dealership your covered. But I dont blame the dealership...these kits are not a huge profit maker for the dealership, they are not required to install them, they make little money installing them, so when you take away the profit on the parts, its just not worth it. My dad is a service manager, and they do not deal with installing these things either because of no profit/money. Then add someone that purchased it over the internet eliminating even more profit for the dealer......I have a news flash for people, I have to remind my dealers of this many times....Everyone is in buisness to make MONEY. If they did not, they would not be in be in buisness. Shop around, I'm sure you can find a dealer within 100 miles that would do the work. Some will install them, some will not.....stop bitching and search around when the kit comes out. You dont even have to got to a Chevy dealer....just a GM dealer

I somewhat agree with that post. If they aren't making up the money by selling the part then they should try to make it up on the install.

Not making profit? Theyre getting paid 1.5-2hrs to install these sensors and flash the car. That is a poor way to run a business...you dont only accept work that makes you a lot of profit. Somethings wont make you much profit, but you keep your customers happy and do things like this to get them in the door....then when there is a big (profitable) job needed theyll come back to you because youve earned their business.

I do work as a mechanic, and I understand the markups and profit margins when it comes to parts...

I've seen a lot of dealers/shops that require you buy the parts through them "or their work won't have any sort of warranty or guarantee". Buncha ******* douchebags.

Well I just got off the phone with the manager and this is what he said. "GM does sell parts over the counter at a discounted price, which is a similar price to the wholesale cost local shops buy for. However, the money you save buying at the discounted is the money that would have been put into the warranty "pool"." He also said I could go with an aftermarket tune, and my warranty will still be good except for problems directly caused by the kit.....

From what my Service manager said, doing this will mean the kit is not covered under the warranty.

LOLOLOLOL

Warranty pool my ass.

The dealer pays the same price CED does for the kit. The "warranty pool" is through GM not the dealer.

So they are just pissed they lost the markup.

nope. Bill the GMPP engineer is on here and confirmed it would not void the warranty if you installed it yourself, if you install it properly.

Was this dealer a gm performance parts dealer/supplier? I have a dealer in my town that is a gm performance provider/installer and they mostly work on corvettes, but they love my cobalt and havent given me any trouble and have been very accommodating. There customer satisfaction must be through the roof bc I thought they were gonna get axed bc they are small.

The only warranty you can lose is the warranty on the Stage kit parts themselves and you still get 1/12K miles if you install them yourself . If a dealer installs the kit the parts are covered for the remainder of the 3/36K bumper to bumper .

They didnt....I had to explain it to them.

Hell, when I first started going there for service they didn't even know what my car was. They were like...its turbo? Are those wheels stock? Did you put those brakes on the front?

You bring up a good point, I didnt think of this. I just went on to gmperformanceparts.com and found out theyre are NOT listed as an installer. Maybe I will have better luck going to one that is. Im going to try Clay Chevrolet in Norwood, theyre listed as a dealer/installer, plus my father was a salesman at their other location for years, so he knows some guys at this one. Maybe Ill have more luck here. I just can't see paying another $100 for the SAME EXACT parts. Plus I wont get a CED T shirt
