Venom vs LS1 Camaro vid. Stage Kit or..?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xyrtra6D0I4

Stage kit or should I get Vince to do a custom tune for my needs?

The Camaro is running 2 classes higher in GT1 and that is where I will be with a tune assuming I don't change nothing els. As you can see he is pulling quite a few car lenghts up the back straight.
I need safe and reliable power between 4000 & 6500rpms that will gain me atleast 2 sec on this track.
With a nice wide tq band I could use 4th for the Turn 1 & 2 combo and lower the rpms a bit.

I hate to start another Stage kit related thread, but if one of the GM engineers could comment (or via PM) on this vid it would greatly appreciated. Please note that I do not expect GM to cover my drivetrain warrenty, but I do want the most reliable setup possible and have no problem running the car in stock trim in the same class if need.

If your car was tuned you would tear that track up! Custom tune would be better.

So GT1 - S

I think you would easily make up the difference, and will **** off a lot of people considering the drama you have already caused this year haha.

nice video. i think i custom tune is gonna net you more of the power numbers and curve you might be looking for, whether its vince's or through hptuners. i dont know that the stage kit will get you quite what your looking for from what ive read so far. were u getting into 5th on that big straight? curious on the speeds you were hitting there. just curious caz from what i could see it looked like maybe 4th?

As long as you dont use second alot id say Vince or HPTuners. I get a bunch of wheel spin in second below 4k rpm, but im also on the stock tires.

GM stage 1 kit would be a good idea too because you do beat on the car pretty good at the track.

Im answering all the questions for him, sorry haha.

The back straight you will see about 200 - 210 km/h or 125 - 131 mph. On the speedo verrrry top of 4th as I recall.

My only concern with an aftermarket tune is that they might be too aggresive.

I've seen it before on mustangs, guys get custom tuned, by tuners who work on drag cars and end up blowing their motors at the track because they simply cant hold up to the continuous high revs and WOT you see on a road course.

Thats why i am thinking stage kit, longevity.

i hear you for sure but i think alot of that depends on the tune/tuner. if you get a tune say a 6 or 7 on 0-10 agressiveness scale, i dont see you running into problems. im sure if you get something very aggressive like a drag only tune you would have problems but a fairly conservative street tune from vince will probably net you more power than the stage kit and be just as safe. thats just my thoughts since your obviously looking for as much power as possible out of a safe tune and since your not so worried about warranty issues anyway, it seems like aftermarket is the way to go. seems to me that ppl only go with the stage kit to save their warranty.

I don't think anyone has ran a 22psi tune as hard as you potentially would at that track, so it's hard to get a definite answer. You would be the ginuea pig in that case.

GM designed their "stage" to be fully warranted, and as such shouldn't significantly affect engine life.

A *****-out (even if otherwise safe) tune from the aftermarket guys will probably pop the turbo before the engine, but either way I bet it wouldn't take too long to find out.

Yeah, i would say go with hpt, but you do run your car waaaaaay harder than a lot of others. I think the stage 1 will be beneficial, but not by much.

ass of his self?? i find them impressive, that was disrespectful... I dont see you setting up your cobalt SS sedan to run and video tape road races and posting them for the rest of to enjoy drooling over. He's a really good driver, and he's getting to the tuning part. jeez.

GM should give you a stage 1 to track test don't you think?
Nice runs. Your a very patient driver. Have you experienced any problems with your shift linkage?
Mine seems to be holding fine, so far anyway

Shiiiiiit Gm should give him what ever he wants LOL willingly taking his 25K cobalt out on the track to see what it can do with no support what so ever takes nuts respect

If only the US had tracks like canada maybe SOME of us could make videos and post em on youtube like venom .. No intentions of harrasing the OP like I said I love his videos and wish him the best of luck in all his ventures. I would just like to see the balt kick more ass passing these cars because it will run neck and neck with a lot of **** on the staights with just a tune and mods ..

Untill theyre like, Hmm.....I think you've been racing this. Warranty denied! I think either way you are gonna catch crap if you have a problem, with or without the GMS1. Vinces tunes arent exactly ***** to the wall. In the end its all your decision. Congrats and kick some more ass either way you go!!

We have like four recognized tracks, Calabogie and Mosport there is also Trois Rivieres and Tremblant, but they are way up in Quebexico.

The US has plenty more top quality tracks.

"Sorry, your warranty claim was denied... but we saw some really cool videos of yours!"

I say save the money and get rid of the "250lb passenger" and I think you'd do substantially better.

On a serious note though, you could either go the "I'm basically stock, with only GM parts" route and just do the Stage Kit (personally, that'd be cool to be able to say from an I just beat you in Cobalt kind of way), or your could get a conservative aftermarket tune and maybe be fine. If you tell the tuner it's for use at courses then they can take measures to soften up the tune a bit.
