I know what people think and say about dealing with warranty especially on a modified car.... almost everyone here. i found this info thanks to SEMA that spells out alot of the politics in warrantyes. i feel that everyone should at least read over this so they are armed next trip to the dealer. i know some dealrs will pull stupid crap like " sorry we cant fix ur brake issue because of the pully u installed on the s/c has now voided ur warranty"

what my broken down version of this is: unless the installed aftermarket part caused the failure they cant do shit about it

ps i also sugest u look at the link that says "(see Attachment A)"

its called the magnuson moss warrenty act, there is tons of info on this site about it. and yes you are correct, if you have a mod and they deny warrenty, they need to be able to prove without a doubt that it caused the failure.

crappy thing is it means nothing to us canadians. however arming yourself with that info and you can BS your way into getting them to warrenty the car as they should.

Who mods a car and then asks for the warranty to be honored? I just installed a SC kit on my 2009 and I expect if there were to be an engine problem for me to replace it, at my expense.

most of the time if a dealer still refuses to warranty you, you're shit out of luck. You'd have to file a lawsuit against the dealer and fight them in court if youe trying to force them to warranty something that they dont think they have to. of course, sometimes you can just throw he name of the act out there and a dealer will become a bit more willing to do your warranty work.

in many cases the dealers dont want to do the work, techs make more money doing non warrenty work, and its better all around for them (some crooked ones even bill gm for the warrenty repair while charging the customer and double up). if you push the fact when its a clear cut case that the mod didnt cause the issue, its not hard to get them to see it. (for example, gm hassled me about my header, intake, 2nd heat exchanger and 2.85" pulley when the crank sensor failed. how do any of those cause a crank sensor to electrically fail??? they cant. pushed the issue and they fixed it)

if you read the warranty booklet you received with your car it says the same thing....

Hell my dealer flat out told me I can mod my car as much as I want and it wont change anything unless they find that the mod caused the failure. However theres still stuff you can do within the guidelines and thats the line im following.

GMPP header
Some aftermarket downpipe
SLP catback
LSJ throttle body
K&N CAI
Jet tune (its easy to remove before going into the dealer lol)
Pedders springs
Rear sway bar

those are the mods I plan during the winter along with a bit of paint.
