Spark plug out at 18,000 miles?!

Spark plug out at 18,000 miles?!
Symptoms I'm having:
-Rough idle, but only for a split second, kind of like a quick shudder.
-Car started today, then instantly died. This is the first time that has happened. Started right up after that. It like turned over a few times more than normal, started, then died instantly.
I was told plugs could be bad? Got a bad batch maybe?
What size spark plug socket do I need to remove them?
