Can't reset mileage?

So a friend of mine got a tune and a new ecu and of course the oil life reset. So we go to set it back to 100% because we just changed his oil but it wont do it. We pushed the reset and info buttons and then pressed and held the res button but it wouldn't reset. So I am wondering are we going to be able to get it back 100% or will it always stay at 0% and he will have to keep track of my miles and change it every 3000 miles?

You're not doing something right.

Mine reset fine on all the replacement ECU's I tried. (2 plus the original)

Try turning the key to on but don't start it. Press & hold the gas pedal to the floor for 1 sec, release 1 sec, repeat 3 times. That works on most GM's, don't know about the TC's though.

that guage does not go by 3000 miles. its by time engine run's/cranshaft turns and something else. but not miles. turn key to run(u know where the radio will come on) within 10 seconds of doing so press the gas petal to the floor 3times. wait 5 seconds key off then crank

The gas pedal tromp x3 trick just worked for me. I had tried 1,460,000,001 other combinations but none would reset my oil life to 100%- thanks, guys!

I have had this problem too. I stumped every tech at the dealer. I had done it before, NUMEROUS times, by hitting the combo of the steering wheel buttons, and it worked every time. Well, one time at the track, oil life went to 0% instantly, from like 75%. I thought I lost my oil, but it was all there. I never could get it to reset.

Took it to the dealer again, and stumped em again. I had been trying for about 3 weeks before I took it to the dealer. Finally, one guy just sat in the car, pushed the buttons, and it worked. IDK why or how.

so why you ppl say that the oil life indicator is way inaccurate? i think changing the oil every 3000 miles is an old school old oil/engine technology safegaurd. engines these days do not need it changed that often, especially with full synthetic.

I'd love to see your evidence of this against GM's evidence behind their OLM.

Your tires count miles. Your engine oil counts engine revolutions. There's a transmission in between the two that has several gears, each affecting the amount of times your engine revolves compared to your tires.

And that's just one variable.

the OLI is by crankshaft and engine run time not mileage for the last time

The question is why can't people figure out that measuring those items is so much more accurate than measuring mileage?
