K & N "Drop-in" Filter

Hey guys,

I have searched for this topic and have had no luck so far. I hate to make a new thread on something that has probably been discussed 50+ times. Sorry in advance....

My car is a 2008 stock SS, and my filter is finally dirty enough for me to change it. I am wondering what benefits the K&N drop-in filter would have over a regular GM filter. I know about the learn down feature limiting more HP and TRQ, but I am still curious to whether the K&N would help the car sound better, and possible react quicker because of better airflow or not. Any suggestions? I can't afford an intake right now or I would go that route. Thanks!

Jake

I've had a SRI, airbox mod with stock filter, and now airbox mod with k&n. Airbox mod with k&n is my favorite of the three, I could hear a difference when going from stock filter to k&n too.

The k&n will be a tad bit louder but not much.. The throttle response is minor, it is kinda hard to tell the difference after switching between the two. Once it learns down its not noticeable. Form me it personally isn't enough to justify the extra dirt. I just don't feel very confident when I can see thru the k&n knowing I have a turbo and DI.. Knowing the gasoline injection won't be cleaning your valves..

So yes it is a tiny bit louder.. is it worth it? That is for you to decide.. I would recommend doing the air box mod. It is easy, cheap, flow more air, and will make it louder.

What is the airbox mod? I searched the forum, but only found a how-to on the ss/sc airbox. Also, what is the SRI filter? I searched google but didn't come up with anything.

I was told that the AEM dryflow filters are good (no oil), but they don't make one for the LNF airbox.

SRI=short ram intake, as opposed to a CAI which is a cold air intake

short ram, the cone filter is under the hood which sucks in hot air

cold air intake, the filter is relocated betweem the bumper and wheel well, which allows for a cooler denser charge

I just pulled my K&N filter out for most likely the last time . My Long term fuel trims are as bad as -10 . With the stock filter they are 0 . I'm wondering if I got a bad filter or what . Anyone else able to check their LTFT's I really like to know what they are.

I notice some sound but it does very little for power. It lets more dirt through also so you need to be mindful of how dirty your oil is getting and change it more regularly.
