stock tires suck

So my car has about 16,000 miles on it and I have rotaed the stock tires once at 8,000 I am down to the wear bars. no crazy burn outs and they did wear good as far as side to side on the tread but wow 16000 and done traction sucked Compaired to the falkin 615s I had on my nova and they wore way better
Its kind of a blessing in a way because I am powdercoating them soon as my oven build is done so gives me a good chance to have tires taken off anyways
what is everyone running for replacements?
Josh

16k isn't too bad outa these things...I've got 10k on mine (with quite a few trips to the drag strip on them) and they've still got plenty of life left but I wasn't really counting on them lasting longer than 14k or so...

I put on BFG SS g-Force A/S tires last winter 'cause I need it as a daily driver. If the snow gets too deep I take the suv anyway.

XL Rated tires like the Conti's with a treadwear rating of 400. Dry traction is as good as the stockers with no wheel hop when they do let go. Better in the rain, cold & snow. Treadwear is good with around 13K on them now I think. Time to rotate them before the snow flies though. Looks like they'll last 30K plus and I smoke 'em a bit.

The ride is stiffer than the Conti's and they don't have the lip over the rim. Check out Tire Rack .com reviews.

I see you are from NC so snow prob isn't an issue huh?

i failed inspection with only 7000 miles on my stock tires. i think i did maybe 3 burnouts on them. never went to the track. and the burnouts werent even major, just a lil clutch pop in first to break them loose a lil.

i went with riken raptor zr tires to replace and i gotta say they seem way better than stock so far. i got all 4 mounted and balanced for $497.

sweet I think the bfgs you posted about are what I just bought my mom for her car from tire rack I was thinking about running them also
Normally we dont get any snow Ive been told (first year in nc december) but last winter it snowed quite a bit and the rain is a big issue most days
Thanks guys

i got 7K out of mine, convinced Conti to replace the 2 fronts, back tires still had "some" life left, only got 5K out of the replacement conti's and the backs were bald by the 12k total, never got to hard on them, 2 burnouts and those were just first gear take offs. Got Bridgestone RE960 A/S and they run great, just a little bit less traction in cornering but can still push car hard they have 4k on them now and no signs of tread loss

These are high performance summer tires, you're lucky to get 10-20k out of them. The harder the tire the longer it will last but crappier it will handle... the stock tires actually are pretty good tires.

Mine lasted 21000 miles, and probably could have gotten more out of them. They were getting fairly bald though. I actually went uber cheap, and bought a set of federal 595ss 225/40/18 (supposed to have been rs, but an error in shipping, and I didnt feel like waiting 4 more days)just to see how they hold up in comparison to the contis. Mine were 395.00 total and that includes the tires, shipping, mounting, and balancing.

I have put like 500 miles on them so far, and besides the tire noise, and the very slight vibration during warm up, they are fairly decent. They grip very well. I tried some slalom roads that I tried with the stock contis, and these gripped at a higher speed than the contis did. I imagine tire wear will be fast, but I also plan on getting powder coating this spring or sooner, and I will definitely be replacing with a different tire.

The Conti's handling sucked below 50*F. No grip. The BFG's I replaced them with are as good in warm weather and much, much better in climates that drop below freezing. If you live where the weather never gets cold, then stay with a summer only tire. They are better in warm & hot weather than all season tires in general. Life is a compromise. Determine your needs and choose accordingly.

Maybe 3 burnouts, nothing to completely smoke tire or anything, I never rotated them and figured i didnt want to put bald tires on the back, so my brother got me 2 new neogens for the front only $160...

I was bald at 6000...

I want these tires to last alot longer, but this car is built to be driven quick, its hard not to use em up.

DUH!!! again they are ultra performance summer tires.. WTF are you doing driving them sub 50's....damn all you ricers using 1 tire all seasons...sickening. bitch bitch bitch.

If you get a tire thats good in cold and warm...its not a summer only which means you loose handling/grip/performance. Theres no if ands or butts about that.

You dont have to compromise, get a 2nd set for winter or a 2nd car...I went with the latter of the two.

The real ass kicker, I know in my manual (or some paperwork I got with the car) it lists expected tread life in miles and kilometres on the stockers

I only remember the number in KM and it was in the ballpark of 24,000; my brain's not working mathematically today so you'll have to convert to miles .

You all are making me nervous. I have 3100 miles on mine now and was hoping to get at least 2 yrs out of them at 10-12k a year. I'm putting some snows on for winter anyway so maybe that will at least get me 2 yrs out of the Conti's.

Ha you wouldn't be able to get down your street in the snow on the Contis anyways so yeah you should be good.

I almost got 24k out of the contis, and this is with no burnouts, just a couple of launches, mainly highway miles, and an occasional spirited twist drive. So 2 years is possible.

Well I've got 11.5k on my 09's tires and they WERE doing fine. I've even auto-crossed in them...

This morning I went out and my right rear was FLAT. A razor blade from a drywall knife (or whatever you want to call those) was in my tire, with about a 4 inch cut running in the same direction as the rotation. It looked almost as though someone had placed it there, then I drove on it. It seems very ironic that I would have picked it up on the road.

Anyway, now I have a dilemma. Do I just buy ONE tire same as OEM...then replace all 4 when the other 3 wear out?

Or do I go get some Nice Nitto's and toss them on?
