If you mod your car enough, you can actually get an afterburner effect from your exhaust. Everybody now calls me Maverick because of mine. hiltu 09-18-2009, 10:11 AM hey i got curious, just for shits and gigs. does anybody know what the stock turbo is on the lnf? Whatcha do in the Navy? Im a nuclear mechanic/ engineering laboratory technician mkriebs 09-19-2009, 12:50 AM I pretty much got my turbo to turn into a fire ball tonight. I didn't think we had an orange underhood light in these cars... u must have been boosting the crap out of it for a while. mkriebs 09-19-2009, 12:34 PM Slightly... I was trying to dial in my boost controller, which consisted of a hard pull, stop, turn it up another notch, hard pull, stop... etc. tomj77 09-19-2009, 01:06 PM some guy around here made his glow like that, then turned off his car right away after, and wondered why his turbo didnt work anymore a week later. lol i think it was incrusted with baked oil. mkriebs 09-19-2009, 01:48 PM Umm yeah, I went for a 10 minute cool down drive, got back home, it was still slightly red, so I let it sit for about 2 minutes to cool down some more. I know not to push it that far and then put it away wet. I am wondering if I am running a bit too lean though... I am running about a 12.5 afr. Baron7700 09-19-2009, 02:05 PM Its a K04 by Borg Warner beat me to it.... small but mighty, look at what audi's do with them when people but ko4's in there s4's. mkriebs 09-19-2009, 02:22 PM beat me to it.... small but mighty, look at what audi's do with them when people but ko4's in there s4's. Yeah, but they are also putting pair of K04's in there S4's, lol. tomj77 09-19-2009, 05:02 PM Umm yeah, I went for a 10 minute cool down drive, got back home, it was still slightly red, so I let it sit for about 2 minutes to cool down some more. I know not to push it that far and then put it away wet. I am wondering if I am running a bit too lean though... I am running about a 12.5 afr. what car u talking about? lnf? 12.5 isnt to lean so i hear on the lnf mkriebs 09-20-2009, 01:47 AM Yeah, LNF. I know its not too lean, but still... kinda a thought. I wont change it, thats for sure. Baron7700 09-20-2009, 12:57 PM Yeah, but they are also putting pair of K04's in there S4's, lol. ya but you have to remember its not a twin turbo system, its a bi-turbo. So rarely are both of them spooling hard, its more of a high low system. mkriebs 09-20-2009, 01:00 PM Still, they have 2x the turbo there. Would be nice if I could do this, lol. revhigh18 09-20-2009, 05:21 PM Its a K04 by Borg Warner only slightly true its actually the KD04 its a K04 made just for the lnf steven6870 09-20-2009, 06:38 PM Sht. I thought the guy was being sarcastic about the turbo. Excuse the dumbass response above. Regarding our cars, I know they have a stock turbo timer for the K04, but what about the solstices? I have read that when the solstice guys are boosting above 16-17 PSI for extended amounts of time, that they basically need to do a cool down session like mkriebs did. This is my second turbo car and I still let mine idle after driving it for about a minute or so, or just cruise with no boost my last couple miles, but still is it needed on our cobalts like some recommend on the solstice forums? ilovecars 09-20-2009, 06:44 PM borg warner k04 dual scroll. mkriebs 09-20-2009, 10:34 PM Sht. I would recommend this. If you have been pushing it, give it a break before you put her away wet. Nothing crazy though, just a minute or 2 like you have been doing. 09turbo 09-20-2009, 10:50 PM seems like this is a popular turbo revhigh18 09-21-2009, 01:30 AM you guys crack me up with some of the shit you come up with mkriebs 09-21-2009, 01:31 AM you guys crack me up with some of the shit you come up with What, the built in turbo timer got ya? Lol. I lol'd. revhigh18 09-21-2009, 12:51 PM and this Sht. I thought the guy was being sarcastic about the turbo. Excuse the dumbass response above. I know not to push it that far and then put it away wet. I am wondering if I am running a bit too lean though... I am running about a 12.5 afr. more power at 12.6. you aren't too lean at all. Not pig rich like trifecta 11's 09turbo 09-21-2009, 02:38 PM and this hahahahahahahahahaha full of win i love your new sig. well its new to me lol random. sorry. mkriebs 09-21-2009, 02:39 PM and this hahahahahahahahahaha full of win I fail to see the hilarity in it? Its better for our turbos to cool down before we turn the car off. Even if it is water cooled. I usually just take it easy for a minute before I park it. 09turbo 09-21-2009, 07:01 PM its better for any turbo to let it cool off. revhigh18 09-21-2009, 09:35 PM i love your new sig. well its new to me lol random. sorry. haha its pretty new but yeah thats area47s car Baron7700 09-22-2009, 01:06 PM Still, they have 2x the turbo there. Would be nice if I could do this, lol. Im really surprised no one has done this yet, it seems like there is room just in front of the motor. Mount it like the supercharger is on LSJ. The piping could than go into the intercooler next to the stock charge piping *or y pipe it?* And run an intake on the other side, or next to the stock one. Wouldnt be the prettiest setup but it seems like it would work. mkriebs 09-22-2009, 01:11 PM But, usually a big turbo on a 4 cylinder is more advantageous than 2 small turbos. revhigh18 09-22-2009, 01:11 PM Sht. This is my second turbo car and I still let mine idle after driving it for about a minute or so, or just cruise with no boost my last couple miles, but still is it needed on our cobalts like some recommend on the solstice forums? it is the same fucking car the same fucking turbo the exact same fucking motor except the compressor outlet is differently shaped but regardless wantedSS/TC 09-22-2009, 01:15 PM someone get butt hurt last night? ;) Baron7700 09-22-2009, 01:24 PM But, usually a big turbo on a 4 cylinder is more advantageous than 2 small turbos. not necessarily, they dont work as hard, can have good boost at all rpm ranges, and you dont have really have to worry about maxing them out. The bigger the turbo the less drivable and more lag there is IMO/ experience. Sides Two turbos is way cooler! haha However usually its CHEAPER to do a big turbo than 2 small ones ;) RBC 09-22-2009, 01:25 PM Our cars do not have a built in turbo timer but it does cool and lube the turbo when the car is off by a syfining effect from the hot and cool oil/water. This has been talked about many times on here. steven6870 09-22-2009, 05:26 PM it is the same fucking car the same fucking turbo the exact same fucking motor except the compressor outlet is differently shaped but regardless I recognize that the solstice, hhr, sky, and cobalt have the same engine. I simply asked a question, which I got an answer for. So first, thanks for clarifying there is no turbo timer (I just thought that since the turbo doesnt have to cool down before shut off, that it must have some type of timer, my mistake) and second... You really dont have to be a complete douche because someone was mistaken, and asked a question. Atleast I recognized that my above comment may have been taken out of context, and retracted it. It seems that every thread on here gets atleast one smart ass comment, from someone who either A. has a narcissistic god complex, or b. an inferiority complex. I imagine you and your other douchebag car buddies gather in a circle and masturbate with engine oil, to the centerfold spread of the newest C&D. And in between all the nut fondling, and "my dick is bigger, NO!!! my dick is bigger" arguments, you all find time to hop on the nearest car forum, to point out how wrong someone is, ignorantly I might add, and how right you are, with your vast amount car knowledge. What I cant figure out is, among all the glorified pole stroking, and "brilliant" forum posting quiffs, when you're using one hand to type, and one hand to masturbate, how are you still holding your BFF's nuts? Maybe I should just ask how do you actually see the computer screen during this process or when you're all "lulzing" does it tickle? Remember kids, just because you can type grown up words on a car forum, and use the word "fuck" appropriately, does not mean your penis will grow any bigger. Shit i dont know hardly anything about cars, only been learning the past 3 years by building/fixing and breaking them, but i know more than most of those knobs. mkriebs 09-23-2009, 03:42 AM Psh... my car buddies and I don't masturbate with motor oil. We circle jerk with motor oil. Its much more intimate. |
