may be buying new ss turbo, what to look for

I looked at a new white cobalt ss turbo today and am going back a 5 pm with my wife to drive it. I asked the salesman if it had lsd and he said "I think they all do". Do all the turbos have lsd? Also do they all have launch control and no lift shift? The salesman doesnt seem to know much about the car. What should I look for? Also I remeber someone on here saying something was wrong with these cars from the factory but maybe if you get a new one that it might be fixed and i cant remember what it was. Also, the price is $27,935 which I think is too much. I havent offered them anything yet because I want my wife to look at it, but I know I will try to get it much lower than that. What is a fair price for the car. Thanks.

No not all come with LSD, either check the window sticker of its in the trunk under the lining I think. Yes they all have launch control and no lift shift. The one weak thing I know personally on the car is the shift linkage has been know to break from a hard no lift shift, so I would give it a couple of hard shifts to make sure its not bad from the factory. And 27k is WAYY to much for that car. Usually Mid to Low 20's is a good start, depending on whether you get GM Discount or not.

Ya what he said; pull the trunk liner, look on the left-hand side near the sub and check the tag for "G85"; if it's there it has LSD, if not, then it doesn't. Cant' help you with price 'cause I'm used to CAD not USD; $27,000 sounds high when the sticker on my '08 (with all features) was $29,575CAD and we pay out the ass for our cars in comparison to the US. The dealer let mine go during the '08 clearance in early '09 for $22,575CAD so I'm sure your dealer can do better than $27,000 .

It should say "G85" on the sticker under the trunk liner. There was also a problem with the stock intercooler piping but that apparently got sorted out already.

Thumbs down

You should be getting that car for about 21-22 at the most.

Fully loaded it will be 25-26k MSRP.

With rebates and incentives it should be well south of that.

I think dealer cost is around 19-20

All Cobalt SS t/c's come with NLS and launch control... launch control however is unnecessary.

Check to see if the top of the door hits the frame of the car. There will be paint missing on the top of both the driver side and passenger side if they hit. paint will also be missing from the frame right by the rubber liner too. I would only pay 23,000 at the most for the car. Talk them down to 22,000. If he won't bunch, try another dealer... Look online and get price quotes from multiple dealers.. let them duke it out for you.

Depending on what it comes with almost $28 is a lot. Mine came to $27k after taxes/fees and everything, fully loaded and i also took the dealers gap ins. Check the window sticker! When I went to do the financing the guy added all these "care and maintenance" packages basically without telling me. It was like an extra $2k. I had him take all that off. The finance dept people are salesmen too. They are supposed to try to get you to buy all the extra stuff. Dont fall for it

The price they gave you is terrible. There are deals to be had out there if you take the time to look. I wound up finding a fully loaded 09' with around 800 miles on it and was able to get it for 16k before tax. In case anyone is wondering how, it had been purchsed at auction due to "smoke damage" from a fire at the dealership. (not near the car, but the windows were down) ie. soot got into the interior, which was subsequently cleaned. I have also seen very low milage cars from between 17k to 20K.

Or look at how many are on places like cars.com for 18k with less than 5k on them.

It's stupid to pay so much for these cars.

Thanks a lot guys. We didnt go to drive the car today because my wife was tired and I really wanted to check the internet first to get some ammo when i go back to the dealer. Also, they wont think im in a hurry since i didnt come back. I appreciate all the replies and will look for other cars before i pay that much. The window sticker didnt say anything about the limited slip but I did tell the guy that the option was g85 in the trunk while i was there and he really didnt seem to know much. I thought that price was high too since the camaro ss can be had for 5-6k more. Well, I'll let you guys know what happened when I decide.

you don't need to go pulling carpet. if it has LSD it'll say right on the window sticker, under the 'optional equipment' column. If there's no mention of it, it doesn't have it.

I agree the price is too high. Sounds more like a ~$25k car to me before any deal making. I wouldn't expect to walk off the lot for 22k like the post above mentions, they don't just give the best price to you for asking nicely . Either way, good luck!

too bad...that's exactly what you do. Tell them what you'll pay or walk out. They still make money. That price I quoted is fair.

I paid 15,800 for my 2008 with 3K miles on it. Just buy a used one. The initial depreciation is horrible.
