View Full Version : Looking to get into AutoX. Blue_Balt 09-29-2009, 01:30 AM After reading some of the posts on here, I've developed an interest in it. What would one need to do it? scottherbert 09-29-2009, 06:39 AM Begin by figuring out who sponsors autocrosses locally and read their rules (probably SCCA). Once you know the rules, you can decide how you can play. Scott venom09 09-29-2009, 11:28 AM ^^^ What he said. And after that get a Snell approved helmut, find a local meet in your area and check it out. Don't worrie about racing the first time out (you can if you want), just hang out and ask questions in the pits. Most guys will be more than willing to show you what its all about. Use your helmut for ride alongs ( there may be loaners, but I have a thing about other people's helmuts) and have fun. this is a good site for info http://www.autocross.com/autoc/started.htm Illini_06SS 09-29-2009, 02:14 PM What you need to AutoX: 1. A running vehicle that isn't on the SCCA's no-fly list (a Cobalt qualifies, FYI). 2. Tires that, at the very least, do not have belts showing. 3. ~1/2 a tank of gas. 4. $30 or so for the entrance fee. 5. A free Saturday or Sunday to spend having a lot of fun. But note that even your helmet will be inspected during a 'tech' inspection and only a specified Snell rated helmet will be allowed (mine are legal but I don't recall the Snell specifics) -- again, read the rules and get something that works to begin with... I've seen a guy show up with an illegal helmet and be told he couldn't drive with that helmet - it ruined his first day of driving. Scott I meant to say that my Zamp J1 helmet is a M2000 rated helmet... though I do not see the site says that anywhere anymore for the same helmet. Here's the SCCA's autox helmet rule... http://www.scca.com/documents/Solo_Rules/2009_helmet_certification_bulletin.pdf nilesg 10-01-2009, 05:44 AM http://www.scca.org/divisions.aspx find your own local SCCA region here....:) http://scca-nnjr.org/ north jersey http://www.sjr-scca.org/ south jersey |
