Need Help from all 2.4 owners!!

So i bring my car in to the dealer as its constantly shifting hard and the no t/c light comes on. brought the car to the dealer the dealer "road tested" and the car was dropping voltage and showing a p0106 code. They replaced MAP sensor.

Drive 5minutes or less and boom t/c light comes out and car does not shift properly. I have seen some posts about this and they never really talk about any other issues or if the problem was ever fixed. Help!!!!

mods- header and gmpp catback.

my car was doing the same thing. its something to do with the bcm. its the fusebox on the passenger side kick panel. i reset everything when i took the battery off for a while and seems to be gone for now. dealership really is unsure about it where i live. i wish there would be a recall.

You ever get this resolved? I am having the same problem, and my stealership mechanic is stumped. I decided to take a stab at it myself. They already replaced my MAP.

it's 95% that it's the bcm issue.. you need to get it replaced

nope. car went back two more times..i gave up. they claimed they did not see the issue. car was left there for hours. its the only chevy close to me which is like 30-45min and making the tripe 6 times..not worth wasting gas over a crappy company.

i also have had this happen...it does it if i spin my tires a bit without the ebrake pulled up a tad..if the t/c light stays on it shifts bad...then my check engine light came on random so i hooked it up to a reader thing and it gave me a code similar to that po106 or whatever and when i looked it up it had something to do with emissions..could it have something to do with the intake i have on if you are talking about a MAF sensor? and my light just recent went out and its been fine again since its cold out

I had this problem. Not sure of what codes were thrown related to the traction control issue, but I got my check engine light cleared when I was tuned with HPTuners. I think mine was the DTC C0561. I'm not too familiar with codes to be honest, but I was told by the dealer before I was tuned that this was the code that was causing the traction control issue. Other codes I was throwing from the cat-less downpipe were P0300 and P0420. Ever since I was tuned I haven't had a problem since. Sorry I can't be of more help, but I hope you solve the problem soon.

A little googling brought up this:

A P0106 could be caused by:

Bad MAP sensor
Water/dirt intrusion affecting MAP sensor connector
Intermittent open in the reference, ground, or signal wire for the MAP sensor
Intermittent short in the reference, ground, or signal wire for the MAP sensor
Ground problem due to corrosion causing intermittent signal problem
A break in the flexible air intake duct between the MAF and the intake manifold
Bad PCM (do not assume the PCM is bad until you've exhausted all other possibilities)

MAP is also compared against the MAF, which should be added to the list. I've already done the 'jiggle' test. Checked as many grounds as I could without a diagram to find... no problems there.

The T/C light staying on and bad shifting is due to poor GM coding on the BCM/TCM. The tech was telling me that GM wanted the transmission to shift like that if they thought that the engine wasnt running correctly. I call it a glitch, or a useless mechanic that doesnt know how to fix it.

On a side note, anyone know if HPT 2.24 is gonna include BCM codes/modification. I know there was a want for it on the forum, but the thread was locked recently when brought back up. Maybe I should see if I can hack the BCM and change the params. Anyone ever hack a car computer before? I am pretty computer literate and could get it going with a little direction. I frequently make my own trainers for PC games and such.

Reply to P0106 Issue with Hard Shifting

I own a 2006 G6 with the 2.4 Ecotec VVT Engine. I am not a Cobalt owner, but hoping this story can help solve some issues for some folks.

I began having hard shifting / early shifting anytime I accelerated hard about 40,000 miles. At first I thought it was when I spun the tires at all, but it began to get more frequent, anytime I accelerated hard. My wife drives the car, and was able to drive the next 48,000 by not accelerating very hard and it would be ok. If it did happen we could simply shut off the car, start it back up and it would be fine. It got to this point at 88,000 that it was more frequent. Having access to live data I was able to watch the pressure control solenoid value drop to zero when it was slamming gears. When I got values again, it was fine. Assuming the PCS was faulty I replaced it. As you may know, long job, about 5.5 hrs book time. Much to my dismay it did not fix it. After much researching I found the vehicle began to generate a P0106 DTC as well as a P0014 DTC anytime I got over about 4,000RPM's. I tried a good working MAP sensor on vehicle and no change. Still did it. Finally I purchased a Exhaust Cam Actuator Solenoid in reference to the P0014 DTC and installed it. I cleared the codes, drove out of the shop, stopped and took off matting it to the floor a few times in disbelief. Cured. So the moral of the story is you may want to replaced the Cam Solenoid(s). About $70 list. You may think I am crazy, but it seems to have cured the issue. I'll be sure to post if I have any more issues. Hope this helps someone.
