View Full Version : Two-Speed Supercharger
MachiBLue 05-06-2006, 01:08 AM I just happened to come across this..A two-speed supercharger, "allowing the effieciency of the supercharger to remain high at all engine speeds." Since im not too knowledgable on F/I, I was wondering if some of you guys can explain if this would actually work..

that looks fuckin sweet
i wonder how practical it really is though
black06ss 05-06-2006, 04:50 PM it seems like it could work that is one nice peice of ingenuity.
Cobalt_Supercharged 05-06-2006, 05:01 PM It is for a centrifacal S/C which typically has lag like a turbo. Pretty good idea, but in my opinion it would lead to more parasitic drag and more parts to wear/fail.
Just stick to a postive displacement S/C, like a roots or twin screw, and you won't have to worry about it.
Novajoe 05-09-2006, 08:05 AM I agree with ^. That thing looks like it'll cost out the ass. Plus I think with the little "tranny" they got in there it'll lead to a lot more parasitic drag. dunno. I'd have to see it in action before I make any judgements. But it does look extremely expensive. If it's not, then I'll really think it's a scam.
Brian MP5T 05-09-2006, 08:08 AM ROTREX...
Varies the speed of the shaft based on the load...
qcpursuit 05-23-2006, 07:50 PM 3000 to 4000 english pounds!!!!!! definately not worth the money(like 5000 to 6000 us $$$)
hatrickstu 05-23-2006, 07:53 PM you guys sure it would "lag" that doesnt seem to make sense to me since it runs off of intake air. you could be right though just wondering
Brian MP5T 05-23-2006, 09:05 PM Centrifugal still make Lag... It's part of the way they deliver..
VictoryRed06 05-23-2006, 09:12 PM roots type and twin screws are the best blowers...scion got screwed on there s/c...but fortunately we made out.
Clmbngfrk18 05-23-2006, 09:21 PM is there naked girls on the site lol my work has it blocked as adult content i doubt a supercharger can be THAT sexy
mezzanno 06-06-2006, 05:31 PM cf superchargers do lag, power usually doesn't start coming on good till about 3500 rpm but with a 2 speed gearbox esentially doubling the speed of the cf it would come into power at about 1700rpm eliminating the lag and with the second gear ratio it could keep it from overspinning high in the engines rev range therefore pulling like all hell essenially from idle until redline. If this is true and does work out id consider it over the stock blower
HackAbuse 06-06-2006, 05:34 PM I doubt you'd consider the price tag

well, everything is expensive at first. i'd kinda like to see one with a small CVT in it.
The small supercharged Mercedes Benz engines use a clutch on the compressor, much like an AC compressor. Then on the other end they have a boost control solenoid like we have. It's not really a 2 speed so much as it's an off/on switch, meaning no parasitic loss from the compressor when it's not needed.
cawpin 07-17-2006, 07:34 PM ^^ That would be a centrifugal supercharger.
As for the variable speed one I would think that a CVT type drive would work better.

if at work google search then it should work

The Milennia S also turns off...
llavalle 07-28-2006, 02:52 AM 2 speed superchargers were used during the 2nd war on Spitfires(Merlin Engines)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rolls-Royce_Merlin
you can read down there :
Supercharger: Two-speed two-stage, boost pressure automatically linked to the throttle, water-air aftercooler installed between the second stage and the engine.
nanaki 08-03-2006, 09:24 AM centrifugal superchargers are just belt driven turbos. they don't build boost til about 3000rpm and don't make max boost til you're damn near redline.
Brian MP5T 08-03-2006, 02:06 PM ^^^ Yeah, That was discussed already..
