A really weird thing happen to my SS/SC today

I unlocked the passenger door with just the key and didnt unarm the factory alarm system 1st...so of course it started going off...which I was suprised it actually went off because I did use the right key...its not like I was a theive trying to steal the car...anyhow to the point...I shut the alarm off and turned on the cd player and started listen to some tunes with no problem at all...I then start the car and slam the door to start driving...the very second the door shut the front speakers start making all kinds of craze noises out of them...they sounded like they were dead speakers that were played too loud for too long and blew up...I then faded to the rear speakers and they were fine...took out the cd and played the radio and it was fine...I then thought since I slammed the door kinda hard I must of made the cd skip...put the same cd back in and same problem...brand new cd by the way with no scratches...I drove home the whole way thinking about how I have to go back to my dealer and make an appointment to get new pioneer speakers put in the front doors since theyre blowen and wondering if those speakers are even avaliable yet as a part since the car is so new...I get home turn off the car and 30 mins later start it back up for a spin...and guess what...no screeching or skipping noises anymore out of the front speakers...totally gone...I then thought to myself that it might of had something to do with 1st getting into the car earlyer and making the alarm go off and then playing the cd player...I seen on here that if you steal the stereo out of the SS/SC it has an alram on it also and wont work again if connected to another car...and maybe if you steal the whole SS/SC itself the cd player plays like $hit on purpose till the alarm is reset...try doing this and let me know if the same thing happens to your speakers...please leave this on the main cobalt thread as it very interesting and might be a defect issue and not an alarm or stereo thread and will get alot of responces...thanks.

Interesting. We also know that it's an electrical nightmare behind the dash. Perhaps the alarm going off sent the front speakers haywire...but that's a longshot. Interesting to figure out the problem either way.

Sounds like Bad speakers to me, or a wiring problem at the door speakers themselves. If it was an alarm related issue, (computer thought someone was stealing the Vehicle or Stereo) then the CD player would not have worked at all, let alone only 2 speakers set up for theft deterrant. If it does it again, I'd be in that dealership so fast, even an SS/Sc couldn't keep up. (cheezy enough guys??)

Oh yea, and after 2 months, still no problems with the aftermarket stereo, other than some serious rattle on the ass end of the vehicle, but the dynamat goes in next week, so problem solved.

It could maybe be when you slammed the door a wire off one of the front speakers grounded on metal inside the door (the insulation on it rubbing on something maybe and some of it got stripped off?). But sounds like a bad ground to me.

You know, there's a product out there that calls your phone, sends you an e-mail, or calls your pager if your alarm ever goes off. No matter where you're at

www.vehiclelocate.net I have one of these in my car, it's *****

Interesting enough my G6 doesnt recognize the key in the door to unarm the alarm system either. The only way to dissarm is by using the remote and unlocking the door or of course letting the alarm go off and starting the car. So I highly doubt that there is a problem with the actual security system. I'm going to vote defective speaker or bad wiring somewhere.

There could be a short somewhere which is why it happend when you slammed the door but came back at a later time. The reason I dont think its anything related to the security system is because I've had 2 vehicles my Grand Am and the G6 they both had the security feature that didnt allow them to work in another car. But setting off the alarm has never led to anything other than the alarm going off in both vehicles. The G6 is more relevant to your car since its the same year and uses more of the same technology.

Well so much for resetting my alarm and the speakers working again because theyre not...I narrowed it down to the front drivers side door speaker...its cracking and has a bad feedback noise coming out of it...I did make my appointment today though...Its for monday morning...the dealership already told me that they dont have any of the pioneer speakers in stalk...but can get them quick if needed...it might only be a wire problem since its only the front left speaker...the tech told me they will do a diagnostics test on the cars electronics to see exactly what the problem is...do they really have a tester that will find problems in the stereo and speaker system??

Sounds like the security checks the code on the chip in the key. Can't check it in the door lock, but it checks it everytime you start the car, anyways.

I don't trust dealerships with speakers and radio's. thats why i take them out and put new better quality sound radio's and speakers in.

Can someone explain to me why an aftermarket head unit and speakers are better. Cause I just don't get it. The radio in the SS/SC is incredible. I can't imagine getting any better short of spending major cash (thousands of dollars).

after market stereos sound amazing compared to any stock setup in my opinion. That may be because I am only yound and do pour thousands into my audio equipment. When I take delivery on my ss/sc first thing goin in is all new audio eqiupment. i need more boom than stock comes with. but thats just IMO

Aftermarket components use a higher quality speaker than stock. They also usually have more power than stock. A better sounding system doesnt have to cost you thousands of dollars.

sounds like a problem with the factory head unit to me... because new GM cars use a data bus system the door chimes are connected through the factory radio and guess where the door chimes come out of the front left speaker. what it could have been is when you slammed the door the relay that interupts the music for the door chimes got stuck, confusing the car....
