i went to my dealership to look at an 09 ss.
they asked me if i was trading in my 06 ss/sc, and i said maybe...then i asked them how much they would give me for it.

at the time it had 190,000 km on it, and they offered me $11,000 CDN

i got 6800 for my 05 SS/SC with 90,000 miles.

they offered 5300 this past memorial day, i (traded it in on an 09 SSTC, loaded) said I need more for my car, I'll come back for 4th of july sale (during GM bankruptcy), salesman said, if I get you close to 7,000 (thats what I said I wanted to get out of it), would you sign on the line that you'd buy a car today. I said yes, he called the "God" of the dealer, he approved the deal and I signed the papers on my new SS 12,000 miles of bliss later, I'm loving it!

What you thinking of getting?

i was thinking of trading for 2010 Camaro... i was talking with the sales idiot and I told him up front that I was not giving my Cobalt SS away. It has only been driven half of one winter, has been professionally maintained, has numerous sweet add-ons... kiss my fat ass $9500.

if it came down to giving the car away like that or driving it until it was a pile of dust in the driveway, get out your dustbuster.

8K is auction price ....... thats what they tried giving me for my 06 with 30K miles on it ...stored winters ...was in excellent condition . I ended up at 10K and wasn't happy but the deal on my SS/TC was unreal ..... so i took it . This was in april of 09 so it was a buyers market at the time ....no one knew what was going to happen with GM and the dealer wanted to move cars.

I didn't have the ***** to do a turbo or tvs swap on my SS/SC ....If you don't have any responsibilities ...like kids and a wife ...mortgage .... I would keep your SS/SC and do a TVS/Turbo swap. If i was younger thats what i would have done.

If you have alot of outside, and inside mods, but its all done cleanly. Do you get more money for a trade in? Or less?

Less ...... a bone stock car in a dealers eyes is worth more to them than a modded one. They can't use the old man /granny line if it's got a body kit and go fast goodies on it .

Dealer here said they'd give me $5400 for my 2005 SS/SC with 95k miles.

I was just curious, and wasn't dead set on getting the TC, so I just left.

Yep .... I could just hear the dealer try and spin the old lady stories now.

"She only drove it on Sunday to get her nitrous bottle topped off ..... she never actually used it ....... just liked to watch it purge ..... reminded her of the fog she grew up with in London during the blitz".

traded in my 06 ss/sc last January for my 09 ss/tc. ended up getting $9k for it with 38k miles on it.

the ss/sc was in pretty crappy condition. clutch needed to be replaced, the front bumper had been wrecked on the front left by the previous owner before me, rims were painted flat black by rattle-cans, removed the rear wing and stripped the top of the trunks paint and only applied the first few layers back.
also had an aftermarket exhaust on the car and aftermarket intake.

so getting $9k for the ss/sc seemed pretty good for me considering the condition it was in.

Why don't you look @ what they are selling for...
Take the asking price that you see cars for sale....minus a grand or so that the salesman can be talked down.
then minus another 2 to 3 grand for reconditiong safety etc.

so if you see one for sale for $12,,999 you can expect to get a trade in value or wholesale value on your car for about 8 to 8500.

thats the way it goes man

and they will start as low as they can so they will let you talk them up a bit.....good luck

yea i bet you can get atleast 10K on a trade in, dealerships will always start waaay low. I went in for service and saw a new Camaro in its glory sitting right there for 36K and the dealership said they could give me 17,500 for my car lol so im sure if your willing to buy there and play the game with them you can get a good deal out of it
