06 SS/sc?? anyone want a 05 ss/sc?

Ok, I'm a little pissed right now so please excuse and frustration reading this. I just got off the phone with my dealer and my SS/sc has been pushed back AGAIN, 3rd time. My new tenative build date is May 9. This makes my car one of the last 05's to be built. Right now I'm thinking of canceling my order, and going for a 06. Does anyone know when the actual change over date is for the 06 model? I don't want to wait 8 months for a car and when I get my hands on it have it devalued 3-4 k as soon as I sign for it. I can pass this order onto someone else if they want it. It is a 05 SS/sc black with g85 package, sunroof, side air curtains. and XM. It should qualify for free sunroof and XM. price for it is $49 over invoice minus XM and sunroof.

My insurance went up like 50 bux per 6 months. I think thats just cause the car cost a bit more and is newer than the 2003 S10 I had insured. Have you actually gotten a quote for each car/model?

I'm not sure what your basis is for thinking your cutting it close, but if your car is already ordered you will get it whether they build it today tmmorow or next year... and they will be building Cobalts for the next 2 months about theres plenty of time I havent even ordered mine yet and GM told me no problem as long as I order it within the next month or 2.

I'm waiting on quotes to be told to me tomm. I called about 5 places today and was talking to them about the quotes.

2 of them hadn't even heard of the cobalt so i was like...uhh...ok.

But i was talking to one thats my friends dad and told him i was wanting the SS...he just pretty much told me with me being 20 and having the name SS on it would raise it quite a bit; So i dunno. Maybe i'll ask all the others tomm when they call back. I mean it doesn't matter now, i'm already in love with the one i'm getting but stil...the SS would be nice.

I'm thinking in terms of value of the car and what is paid for it. I would be buying a end of year model which would lose value withing 2 months when the 06 model year starts hitting the show rooms. So if I wait 2 more months and get an 06 model I get the full value of the car for a full year rather than full value of the car for only 2 months. The other issue I'm dealing with is I've gone to driving a rental at $530 a month. I'm looking at either having a rental another month hopefully, or buying a crapper car for 3 months and get trade-in value for the car.

at this point I'm a "F" it and "F" Chevy. Why would I have to wait 8 months for a car that will be obsolite? I should have gone with the Is300. My salesman has thru tomarrow to figure something out to set this right. If nothing is don't I think Chevy is done with doing biz with me. And they (Chevy) wonders why they are loosing money. Hmmmmmmmm lets think..... Basic biz practice - ALWAYS KEEP YOUR REPEAT BIZ PEOPLE HAPPY

One advantage of getting a year end 2005 is it will be low milage for the life of the car. Yeah, you'll lost a few bucks initially when the 2006's hit, but you're 2005 will have very low milage for a 2005 vehicle. It will end up being worth MORE several years down the line than a 2006 you bought which will already have a ton of miles on it before the 2006 car year is even over!

Besides, EVERY car loses a few thousand dollars the moment you sign on the line and drive it off the lot.

I'm enjoying my new Red 05 SS/SC. Very nice I didn't have to wait for mine, it showed up with all the available features I wanted at a good price as extra stock (only one really) at the dealership in Michigan.

Hope you get your car soon. I would be raising hell if I ordered something that hasn't showed up in several months. When did you place your order?

The insurance companies that haven't heard of the cobalt (like Geico) can't really jack up the rates. It's classified as a subcompact car with a 2.0 engine. They asked me if it was a sports car, and I always respond with "What is your definetion of a sports car?" They could never answer that for me. So I told them the sticker on the car says Subcompact

Sure I realize that as soon as they figure out what the car is and get some stats on it they could raise the rates, but for right now them being in the dark is a good thing

Production Orders

I'm not certian of this so if there are any people here that work on the Cobalt assembly line please educate us. I've been in manufacturing all my life and know a little about the assembly lines at GM. More than likely, being that the SS has differant drivetrain and other options not offered in any other version of this car, the line probably requires an expensive and fairly time consuming modification. I'd bet that GM waits for a certain number of orders and or inventory before this change over, because the SS's probably are run concurrently and no other versions are produced while the SS is.
The last rumer I heard was from an Exec (supposedly) at the Ohio plant. He was on another forum I was on about a week ago. Believe if you want:
Good News-The lines will be dedicated to SS production in two weeks (the end of this week now)
There are orders for 469 cars, end of last month.
Production will continue into next month.
Bad news-Production of the SS will cease the end of next month as the line will be producing 06
models.
If all orders are not completed by then, your out of luck.

If you havn't yet ordered your 05 SS, you probably won't get one.

I'm with Arch, I wanted the car for May and if June is 06 build I think I am gonna grab a 06 and cancel my 05 order, this sux!

On the other hand I got to take a 05 SS non perf pak out on a long test drive today and I can say the car is a lot of FUN! but the inside tire spinning around corners was annoying

update on the model year for everyone....... last date of order for 05 model - May 20, 2005
end of production for 05 model - June 17, 2005. start of production for 06 model year June 20, 2005. I really leaning towards canceling my order now. I got access to a dealers auto auction so I might get the 2cd car while waiting for the SS/sc and just order an 06. Most likely get it in July or August delivery.

Monday update....... Ok I had a friend of mine call me today and told me he saw a red SS on a car carrier in Cincinnati heading south in Kentucky (the only car on the carrier). Well back to my car. I've decided to keep the order for the 05 for now until it comes in. At the time it comes in we will have more info on the 06 model year, then I can compare the 2 years and decide what I want. So if anyone is interested in a black 05 fully loaded, keep in touch with me. I estimate delivery the last week of May or first week of June.

That doesnt make sense... the car is worth more if you order it at then end of the year... now your 2005 has the miles of a 2006... lower miles=better value

I will meet the average milage on a new car within 1 year of owning it. I put 30k mile on a year. So millage will not mean anything to me, its about age of car for my resale point. Typically I trade in cars with about 100k on them (last two trade in- 136k and 128k). The milage issue would be good for some people but not for me because of the miles I drive. Oh on a side note.... yeah I'm really lovin the 92 octane gas for this car, this means about a $60-$70 gas bill a week for me

ok well regardless your not gonna put a years worth of miles on the car from now unitl december... but i understand that... also though if your worried about re-sale looka t how few of the 05' models there is going to be, they will be rare compared to the 06' models

Ok NEWSFLASH! If you honestly think a Cobalt SS will not drop like a stone in value like every other GM car, I have a bridge to sell you....
They will be typical GM small car values in a yr losing 33-45% value in the first 2 yrs as they all do. It is not a Z06 Corvette or a Solstice, and if you have not noticed they are starting to sit at dealers already, do a search!

Buy the car and drive it and I agree with Arch, waiting for a out of date 05 when you can order an 06 in a few and get any and all fixes and such instead of a new model year car make a lot of sense!

Not a good idea to keep the insurance company in the dark on this.........if you read the fine print you may find out that the insurance company can drop you for not telling them or worse...........what if there's an accident.........they may not cover you!!! better to tell them you're driving a hot rod and see what they say.......get them to quote you for a porche or something, you may find out that the insurance isn't that much more....I was paying $1600 CAD on my cavy and now I'm going to pay $1600 on the SS in red!..no change for me.
