Supercharged vs Turboed 08 Cobalt

I really hope that the 08 Cobalt isnt going to be turboed because I hate turbos. There are too many cars with turbos nowadays and I want the Cobalt to stay unique. I really like supercharger whine and a steady torque curve. I might want to wait till 08 to get my Cobalt for things like six speed, variable valve timing, and direct injection, but are they worth it? I think a supercharged Cobalt with 220 hp for 08 would be amazing!

I plan on trading my Cobalt in as soon as the new Camero comes out, but I would definatly trade it in on a 250 hp turbo Cobalt.

The turbo might be more powerful, but to many cars do have turbos, keep the Balt unique by keeping it supercharged

Turbo all the way... 100+ for a smaller pulley, or 10 bucks for a Manual boost controller?

the supercharger whine I understand...but a turbo'd ecotec has a really nice powerband....and if it did go turbo...the turbo would be small, so turbo lag wouldnt be that big of an issue until you upgrade. Although being supercharged is unique, thats costs money, seeing how gm is using more turbo's on their cars. Most companies have been ditching the supercharger....I dont even think there is anymore supercharged cars left really....u got the ss....I suppose trd packages...but that doesnt really count in my opinion...and the cobra when it comes out. Variable valve timing and direct injection are worth it...but not for u to trade in your car.

if they do turbo in 08' then i have just two words to say to that...."TRADE IN"

edit: it really shouldnt be a surprise tho if i trade in because i own a 2.4 ss and it deff. shouldnt be a surprise if the other 2.4ss trade in for a turbo ss in 08' because the market just isnt there for our cars, all the companies are out for the ss/sc model, and even tho the turbo kits are starting to come, our cars arent made to handle the boost pressures like the ss/sc which is built to handle boost, our cars can easily become over boosted at 10-15psi and lead to oil pan failure (aka throwing a rod through the oil pan). sorry but 220 sc or 250 turbo, and like someone said b4 100+ pulley kit or 10$ manual boost controller. (as long as you didnt boost too high otherwise youd need injectors and adj. fpr and afrc)

I like being different and unique. I like the SC whine over a BOV. I would never had thought I wouldve said that, as I was an SRT4 owner, but its the truth. If I ever do buy one Im defenitely never getting rid of my RL.

you got one right here too. I say screw being unique. I'd rather beat SRT4's then then be unique, and then turn up the boost and beat cobras, and LS1's. But a 2.0 Direct injection w/vvt and dual scroll turbo is pretty unique too .

I'd take which ever has more HP. This "there are too many turbos out there" has to be the weakest argument I have ever heard. Are you serious? How does this prove a point about anything? Ok lets say for example I'm Mr. GM. Hey do you think we should SC our 08 or Turbo it? Well Mr. GM there are too many turbos out, they cant be selling well. And for all you who are going to say. Well there is a market for SC cars. Yeah your right, but not as big of a market that is buying turbos. If it aint broke, copy it. I could care less about this Turbo/SC debate anyway. Though I don't think I will be going cobalt/chevy again. Next ride is an Evo X or Supra. Just got a 240sx yesterday which I will be turning into a 500+hp Turbo with the s15 conversion.

Paul. You haven't even driven a cobalt. You don't know how to drive stick. What kind of arguement could you possibly make?

Is it really as easy as turnin up the boost wit a boost contoller to be faster and it isnt very good for your engine probly because if the manufacturer could boost higher, wouldnt they? BTW what is a dual scroll turbo?

I guess you want the Cobalt to be more expensive (my guess, at least 23k) and less reliable. And you dont think that your torque curve is important, too, do you? And have fun with the insurance bill
I do think the noise from a BOV makes drivin more fun, but a loud whine turns more heads

you can probably boost a bit more but eventually you'll run preety hot and a tad lean. twin scroll is a turbo that spools quicker thanks to a small scroll that spins the larger scrool ALA EVO 8 and 9 <i think>

Is that all you can do? You really are an ***hole. You really need to get a life and stop takin it so personally about me not thinking the Cobalt is the best car ever made. In every thread that I comment in, you jus try to put me down. Is your car the only thing you have in your life? I hope it makes you feel better.

Well, i'm much more of a SuperCharged fan than a turbo. We drive turbo diesels at work and they're great for going in a straight line, but when you need to back up precisely, only us experienced guys can do it. (The rest smash their trucks into the dirt or a wall and bend the box up pretty badly.) Besides, nothing beats the WHINE of a S/C! It just screams performance. The linear powerband is where its at!

I like the whole supercharger idea. I hope they put a twinscrew charger like on the mini's on the 08 cobalt.

simply put, for a well equipped cobalt ss sc, you are looking at about

$22,355.00 (26k sticker at the dealerships around here)

on the other hand you look at a ss 2.4 with the same options minus seats, you are looking at

$19,775.00

so we start math

$22,355.00
- $19,775.00
= $2580.00

out that 2580 into a turbo kit, spend about 1500 on top of it, looking at 250+ hp, so in the end, i can spend 1500 bucks more then a sc model, live without seats, and make alot more power, plus have a BOV... thats why i didnt get the SC because around whre i live the sc models go for about 26k and i had to beat the salesman up to get 21k out hte door.... but yeah, i think they should still make the SC model, so that us 2.4 guys can just spend a little cash and make you look stupid for spending the extra money for seats and wheels when we blow by you and you go home and cry yourself to sleep over your purchase
